Students Will Learn Self-reliance at School-level under NEP

The National Education Policy has the capacity to make students Atmanirbhar or self-reliant right from the school-level, said Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, Minister of Education during his inaugural address at the India Education Summit (IES) 2021. The three-day virtual event that began sees participation from stakeholders from the government, school, university, policy, and e-learning platforms.
During his address, Pokhriyal said, "By connecting students with the internships, vocational training as a student reaches class 6, we will imbibe atmanirbharta (self-reliance) in a student. By the time these students will complete school education, they will be warriors who can take on any task," said Pokhriyal.
India will be the first country to introduce artificial intelligence (AI) at the school level. Usually, AI is being taught at IITs and specialised colleges but we would start by giving the education right from school level, he added.

Samagra Shiksha Funded School to be Renamed

The Ministry of Education has decided that the Schools and hostels under the Samagra Shiksha Scheme will now be renamed after Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose.
The renaming of the scheme will help to create awareness regarding the facility of these residential schools and hostels in difficult areas.
It will also inspire these schools to achieve the high standards of quality education.
The Samagra Shiksha Scheme is an integrated scheme for school education.
The scheme extends from pre-school to class XII.
It ensures the inclusive and equitable quality of education for all at all levels of school education.
The scheme was launched after subsuming three schemes namely, the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA), the Teacher Education (TE), the Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA).

First Women Team Inducted into CRPF's CoBRA Commando Unit

A maiden contingent of 34 CRPF women personnel was inducted into its specialised jungle warfare commando force CoBRA, which will soon be deployed in the anti-Naxal operations grid of the country. The Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA) was raised under the CRPF in 2009 for undertaking intelligence-based jungle warfare operations. It has been an all-male affair for this unit till now.
The majority of CoBRA teams, whose commandos are expected to have tough mental and physical attributes, are deployed in various Maoist violence affected states while a few are based in the northeastern states for undertaking counter-insurgency operations.
A ceremonial event was held at the forces' camp in Kadarpur village here with CRPF Director General A P Maheshwari witnessing combat drills performed by the chosen women as he underlined that it was important to defeat gender-based beliefs and sterrotypes.

Delhi Govt. to Provide Science Scholarships to 1,000 Class 9 Students

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said that the Delhi government approved a science scholarship scheme for Class 9 students.
Under the 'Mukhyamantri Vigyan Pratibha Pariksha' scheme, 1,000 students in schools in Delhi will be given a scholarship of Rs. 5,000.
Students of Class 9 of government, govt-aided and recognised schools of Delhi, who have secured 60 per cent or more marks in their previous class, will be eligible to appear for the scholarship examination.
Students belonging to scheduled castes, scheduled tribes, physically handicapped or other backward classes categories will be given a relaxation of up to five per cent of marks.

UP Govt. Proposes to Open Sainik Schools at every Divisional Headquarters

The government of Uttar Pradesh has sent a proposal to the central government with plans of opening Sainik schools in all the divisional headquarters in the state.
At present, there are 31 Sainik Schools being operated by the Defence Ministry in the country with the maximum of them in Uttar Pradesh -- one each in Jhansi, Mainpuri, and Amethi.
The plan for the establishment of Sainik schools in all divisional headquarters of Uttar Pradesh came after Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, during the Union Budget 2021 presentation, proposed the establishment of 100 Sainik schools in the country.
The Uttar Pradesh Government's proposal, if approved, will give a huge impetus to the education ecosystem of Uttar Pradesh.

UP Govt. Free Coaching Classes for NEET, JEE, UPSC

Extending assistance to the youth appearing in competitive exams, the Uttar Pradesh government will start free-of-cost coaching centres at the divisional level in the state from February 16 under a new scheme called 'Mukhyamantri Abhyudaya Yojana'.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has decided to set up 'Abhyudaya' coaching centres for aspiring candidates preparing to qualify the NEET, JEE (Mains and Advanced), CDS, NDA, UPSC and all other competitive exams.
The free coaching facility will provide great support to the poor and deprived students whose guidance will be taken care of by the state government, the spokesman said.
The free-of-cost coaching institutes will start functioning from the auspicious day of 'Basant Panchami' on February 16 and registration for classes will commence on February 10.
The 'Abhyudaya' coaching centres will be set up at the divisional level in the first phase and to be followed up at the district level in the next phase.
The coaching will also involve provision of direct counselling by senior IAS, IPS and PCS officers for the aspirants.

Education Ministry to Rename Residential Schools, Hostels after Netaji

The Ministry of Education has decided to name the residential schools and hostels funded under the Samagra Shiksha Scheme as Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose residential schools.
A total of 1,063 residential facilities (383 residential schools and 680 hostels) have been sanctioned to States and UTs so far. It has been decided to rename the residential schools and hostels funded under the Samagra Shiksha Scheme as "Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose residential schools.
In addition to the regular school curriculum, interventions for all-round development of children such as the provision of Specific Skill Training, physical self-defense, medical care, community participation, monthly stipend are also made available to children. These residential schools and hostels follow the same norms as followed by Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas (KGBV) and aspire to achieve the standards set by the KGBVs.

IIT Patna Collaborates with WileyNXT to Deliver Specialised PG Certificate Programmes

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Patna, institute of education and research in science, engineering and technology collaborated with WileyNXT, Wiley's innovative learning solution for new and emerging technologies and announced the launch of three post-graduate certification programmes: PG Certification in Cybersecurity and Blockchain, PG Certification in AI & Machine Learning and PG Certification in Big Data Engineering.
IIT Patna courses with WileyNXT are designed for final year students and early-stage professionals who aim to build their competencies in new emerging fields to grow their careers further. Post the successful completion of the programme the participants will get a certificate of proficiency from WileyNXT and IIT Patna.

Gujarat Govt. to Set Up Indian Institute of Skills in Gandhinagar

The Gujarat government is setting up an Indian Institute of Skills (IIS) at Nasmed village in Gandhinagar district.
The state Labour and Employment department is setting up the institute in collaboration with the Tata Group on a not-for-profit PPP model.
As per reports, the state government has allotted around 20 acres of land for the institute at Nasmed village, which is 20 km away from Ahmedabad.
The institute will prepare skilled manpower in the fields of artificial intelligence, cyber security, additive manufacturing, augmented reality, system integration, cloud- based application, simulation solutions, among other areas.

Hebrew University of Jerusalem Launches MA in Smart Cities and Urban Informatics

The Rothberg International School at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem launched MA in smart cities and urban informatics. Taught by the Department of Geography, faculty of social sciences, the programme aims to develop a new generation of urban planners, analysts, and policymakers with the requisite toolbox for addressing the challenges of the smart city.
The university claims that the course capitalists on the existing programme in urban planning at the Hebrew University and the geoinformatics track in the department of geography. It is curated for social science students who want to acquire a broad-based understanding of contemporary urban development utilising state of the art techniques in spatial analysis.
The programme focuses on smart cities and urban informatics.
