Over 56 lakh School Teachers to be Trained Through NISHTHA

The Ministry of Education is planning to train over 56 lakh school teachers in the academic year 2021-22.
This is in line with the announcement made in the Union Budget which states that "in 2021-22, training of 56 lakh school teachers will be enabled through NISHTHA".
During the COVID-19 pandemic, more than 30 lakh elementary school teachers were trained digitally.
The training will be more focused and specialized, as per the ministry.
Specialized online NISHTHA training will be extended to teachers of foundational years from August 2021. Online training for teachers of the secondary/senior secondary level will be initiated in July 2021. Mentors will also be prepared alongside for continuing the hand holding of teachers after training is over.

Skill Ministry Rolls Out MGNF

The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) launched Mahatma Gandhi National Fellowship (MGNF) 2021-23 in partnership with nine IIMs. The application process for the two-year government-funded programme will begin on February 15 and will conclude on March 27.
During the course, fellows will be given a stipend of Rs 50,000 per month for the first year and Rs 60,000 per month for the second year of the course.
The fellowship is rolled out under the World Bank loan assisted programme SANKALP (Skills Acquisition and Knowledge Awareness for Livelihood Promotion). Fellows after getting training from IIMs will further strengthen the district skill administration and the District Skill Committees (DSCs) under the fellowship.
The fellows under MGNF will acquire academic expertise and technical competency in understanding the overall skill ecosystem along with being attached to DSCs and help them manage the skill development planning at district level through the mechanism of formulating District Skill Development Plans (DSDPs).

PM Modi Lays Stone for IIT Madras' Scientific Discovery Campus

The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) is setting up a Discovery Campus at a cost of around Rs. 1,000 crore near Chennai. The institute aims to develop the facility as a key destination for global scientific discovery.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of the Discovery Campus of IIT Madras, which will be located at Thaiyur near Chennai, to accommodate the growing research infrastructure requirements of students and faculty.
IIT Madras allotted 163 acres of land in 2017 at Thaiyur, which is located about 36 km from the main campus at Guindy.

IIM Udaipur Organizes Research Communication Masterclass Series

Indian Institute of Management Udaipur, IIMU announced a virtual Research Communication Masterclass Series in collaboration with SP Jain Institute of Management and Research, SPJIMR.
This series will enhance the ability of doctoral students and young researchers to make high-quality research presentations.
The Masterclass Series is a conceptualized high intensity and impact learning experience for the doctoral students at both the B-Schools on how to communicate with clarity about their research.
Since its inception, IIM Udaipur is breaking new ground in management research and is currently ranked 4th in India for research in management.

ICAI's ARF to Offer Employability Training for Youth

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI)'s Accounting Research Foundation (ARF) — which has supported students to carry research in the areas of accounting, auditing, capital markets, fiscal policies, monetary policies etc — will now also offer training to make class 12 pass students employable. The ICAI has on Wednesday launched an accounts assistant scheme in this regard.
Under the scheme, students will be offered training to develop skill sets in the subject of accounting, tax compliances and related topics and to develop expertise on book-keeping, GST, and Income Tax compliances. Students who will clear this scheme will get the chance to intern with experience CAs, organisations etc. The experience gained by the students would help them to get jobs locally and through ICAI job portal, they will have ample career opportunities.

Hong Kong's Lee Maan Ki Wins IIHM Young Chef Olympiad 2021

Lee Maan Ki from Hong Kong won the 7th International IIHM Young Chef Olympiad 2021 organized at International Institute of Hotel Management (IIHM) Kolkata's campus. Besides a gold medal, Lee Maan Ki, a student of Hong Kong's International Culinary Institute, has won a cash prize of $10,000. The silver medal was secured by Srijaenthi Natraj of the UAE, and Jessica Louise Hoskins of New Zealand received bronze.
Around 50 countries participated in the event this year which was held virtually due to COVID-19 pandemic.

IIT Gandhinagar Director Elected Member of US National Academy of Engineering

Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Gandhinagar director and Padma Shri awardee Sudhir K. Jain has been elected as an international member of the US National Academy of Engineering (NAE), a premier independent body of eminent engineers, business leaders and academicians from across the globe.
Presently, there are only 16 other international members from India in the US NAE, including Ratan Tata, Mukesh Ambani, N. R. Narayana Murthy, Kiran Mazumdar Shaw and Raghunath A. Mashelkar.
Jain is among 23 international members elected in 2021 and the only current director of IITs to be ever elected to this prestigious body. He will be formally inducted during the NAE's annual meeting on October 3, 2021.

ICAI Launches International Curriculum on CA Course

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) has launched international curriculum on CA course- international affairs policy and international curriculum. The curriculum was launched by Minister of State for External Affairs V. Muraleedharan at the national capital. The courses will be provided in distance learning mode, but considering the pandemic situations, the classes will be held online.
"The International Affair Policy and International Curriculum launched by ICAI is a step in the right direction to enhance ICAI's global presence and recognition. The International Affair Policy of ICAI aims to develop Indian CAs as a truly global brand at international level," he said.

IGNOU Launches PG Diploma in Corporate Social Responsibility through ODL Mode

The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) launched PG diploma in Corporate Social Responsibility (PGDCSR) through open and distance mode. The candidates with a minimum Bachelor's degree can apply for the diploma programme. The online application process will be closed on February 28.
The course will focus on to impart knowledge and understanding about CSR, expand capacities of learners on various theoretical and practical aspects, develop professional knowledge in formulation, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of CSR projects and programmes.
The one-year course will cover topics of fundamentals of CSR, CSR process, CSR implementation, CSR projects and programmes, development: issues and perspectives, project work in CSR.

IIT Jammu, IIM Jammu Ink MoU to Collaborate, Share Resources

The Indian Institute of Technology Jammu (IIT) and the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Jammu inked an MoU for collaborative excellence in teaching, research and placements, besides sharing of expertise and resources to improve the quality of education.
The two pioneering institutions located in Jammu aim to collaborate in various parallels in order to churn out the best engineers and managers in the country.
It was decided at the meeting that the collaboration will also work towards creating a "community engagement programme" dedicated to solving the problems of the region.
The scope of the MoU includes academic, research, administrative, and consultancy collaborations.
