State of School Feeding Worldwide Report

The United Nations World Food Programmes (WFP) has released its report titled "The State of School Feeding Worldwide".
As per the report, the COVID-19 pandemic risks have reversed the efforts that were made worldwide in a decade to provide nutritious food to the most vulnerable children across the globe.
The report highlights that, one in two school children that would count as around 388 million children worldwide received the school meals when the pandemic was at its peak. This accounts for the highest number in history.
When the pandemic was at its peak around April 2020, 199 countries had closed their schools. Because of which, 370 million children were suddenly deprived of the nutritious meal of the day.
The report highlighted that, the lockdown threw spotlight on the critical role that school plays in feeding vulnerable children and protecting their futures.

Jamia MilliIslamia Students Selected among Top 10 UN Global Impact (PRME) Supported Competition

A project entitled 'Sustainable disinfection chamber for rural areas', conceived and designed by Abdul Haq Siddiqui, a student of M.Tech. (Energy Sciences) 1st Semester, Department of Applied Sciences & Humanities, Faculty of Engineering & Technology, Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) and three other students of Al-Falah University(AFU), Faridabad have been selected among top 10 projects in a competition- IILM Sustainability Carnival PRME 2021, a United Nations supported initiative held at IILM college of Engineering and Technology, U.P.
The project was based on integrating the design of a disinfection chamber, HVAC system and Internet of Things (IoT) together. The current system detects the presence of a human, body temperature of the incoming person, incoming/outgoing pattern, chamber ambient conditions, customer gender and height.
A total of 200 colleges across the nation participated in the IILM sustainability Carnival PRME 2021. Best 60 projects were shortlisted in the first stage and finally best 10 in the last stage.

AP Govt. to Implement CBSE System for Classes 1 to 7 from 2021-22

The Andhra Pradesh government has decided to implement CBSE system for classes 1 to 7 in all its schools from the 2021-22 academic year.
The system will be gradually increased year-wise from classes 8 to 10. By the year 2024, all classes from 1 to 10 will be under CBSE.
The move comes amid ongoing litigation in the Supreme Court against the conversion of all government schools, from classes 1 to 6, to English medium, a move that has caused widespread resentment.
The latest decision by Chief Minister Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy to switch over to the Central Board of Secondary Education is seen as a move on the sly to completely do away with the Telugu medium of education.

IIM Ranchi Launches Five-year Integrated Course

Surrounded by a lack of opportunities amid the pandemic, IIM Ranchi has emerged as a shining beacon of hope by announcing its new program that is the Five-Year Integrated Program in Management (IPM). IIM Ranchi is next in the line after IIM Indore, Rohtak, and Bodh Gaya to announce this programme.
This programme is specifically designed for students who clear the Class 12 board exam and want to pursue a career in management.
The average CTC of IIM Ranchi stood at 15.11 lakh per annum making it a good proposition for the future.
Having a total of 120 seats, this five-year integrated program will provide students with more options to study and get practical exposure to become market-ready. Since the notification is out for IIM Ranchi students are now looking to take SAT to stand a chance to get into this prestigious institution. Many students have filled the form and are preparing for the next attempt.
There is no age limit for the applicants. The course structure is designed to provide a multidisciplinary foundation borrowing from humanities, social sciences, arts, and sciences.

Project Udbhav Launched to Promote Hygienic Practices Post Covid-19

In the aftermath of the Covid-19 pandemic, a unique initiative 'Udbhav' has been launched to promote hygienic practices for school-going children in Sikkim.
Every child-friendly school requires appropriate wash initiatives that keep the school environment clean and free of smells and inhibit the transmission of harmful bacteria, viruses and parasites.
Project 'Udbhav' was launched in 10 schools of Sikkim with the association of Education Department of Sikkim and Alkem Foundation and Sulabh School Sanitation Club, New Delhi. The aim of this project is to ensure that all students continue their studies in a safe and healthy environment.
This programme shall focus on the development of life skills and the mobilization and involvement of teachers, students, parents, communities, governments and institutions to work together to improve hygiene, water and sanitation conditions in the identified schools of Sikkim.

India and World Bank Sign $68 mn Project for Improving Education in Nagaland

Indian government, Government of Nagaland and the World Bank signed a $68 million project to enhance the governance of schools across Nagaland as well as to improve teaching practices and learning environments in select schools.
As per a Finance Ministry statement, the "Nagaland: Enhancing Classroom Teaching and Resources Project" will improve classroom instruction; create opportunities for the professional development of teachers; and build technology systems to provide students and teachers with more access to blended and online learning as well as allow better monitoring of policies and programs.
About 150,000 students and 20,000 teachers in the government education system in Nagaland will benefit from the statewide reforms in schools.

IIT-Delhi Launches Certificate Programme in Digital Marketing

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi has launched a certificate programme in digital marketing.
The programme will be for six months and classes will be conducted online twice a week on Saturday and Sunday. The course fee is Rs. 50,000.
The 18 modules programme will cover topics on digital marketing, traditional marketing versus digital marketing, website planning and development, email marketing, advertising, Google Analytics, Facebook advertising, Linkedin marketing. The lectures will be delivered online.
The candidates with a Bachelor's degree can apply for the certificate programme, the final-year students may also apply.

Saudi Women can Join Armed Forces

Women in Saudi Arabia can trade their abayas for military uniforms as the kingdom opens up the armed forces to female recruits.
Saudi Arabian women can be recruited as soldiers, lance corporals, corporals, sergeants, and staff sergeants, according to Arab News. Some additional criteria have been added for female applicants.
This move is the latest in a series of measures aimed at increasing the rights of women in the kingdom. The plan was first announced in 2019.

The NEP 2020 Hoping to Carry Out NPST by 2022

NEP 2020 envisages a shift from summative assessment to regular and formative assessment, which is more competency-based, promotes learning and development, and tests higher-order skills, such as analysis, critical thinking, and conceptual clarity. All students will take school examinations in Grades 3, 5, and 8 which will be conducted by the appropriate authority. Board exams for Grades 10 and 12 will be continued, but redesigned with holistic development as the aim. A new National Assessment Centre, PARAKH (Performance Assessment, Review, and Analysis of Knowledge for Holistic Development), will be set up as a standard-setting body.
PARAKH can is seen as a game changer as it will not only helpstates in offering quality standardised assessments, but also aid in providing regulardata for improving quality.
The NEP 2020 highlights the need to evaluate "higher-order skills, such as analysis,critical thinking and conceptual clarity." This indicates a shift in the focus ofassessments.

J-K Lt Governor Manoj Sinha Launches Vocational Labs

Taking a leap towards strengthening the vocational education ecosystem in Jammu and Kashmir, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha virtually inaugurated 607 vocational labs, a vocational education portal and a GIS portal.
The Lt Governor stressed on the need to incorporate new skill sets, innovative activities and vocational training into the school education curriculum.
Speaking on the occasion, Sinha said that important features of the new educational policy initiated in J&K will pave a strong foundation for job-oriented education. The emphasis on vocational education, as per NEP-2020, is to enable students to be job providers, instead of job seekers.

India's First Digital Varsity Comes Up in Kerala

Kerala took a major step forward in its progress towards a knowledge society with the inauguration of the country's first Digital University, based in Technocity at Mangalapuram near.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan presided over the function, where Governor Arif Mohammed Khan, who is also the Chancellor of the Kerala University of Digital Sciences, Innovation and Technology (KUDSIT), unveiled the varsity plaque.
Both the Governor and the Chief Minister addressed the function through video conferencing.
The society expects the Digital University to provide intellectual support to lap up the new world of opportunities arising through artificial intelligence (AI), Blockchain, Data Analytics and other digital transformation courses.

UGC Finalises Draft for Indian, Global Institutions Offering Joint or Dual Degrees

Indian and foreign higher education institutions may soon be able to offer joint or dual degrees and twinning programmes with the University Grants Commission (UGC) finalising a draft for the regulations of these programmes.
However, a final decision in this regard will be taken following evaluation of feedback received on the draft, which has been put in public domain.
According to the draft 'UGC (Academic Collaboration between Indian and Foreign Higher Education Institutions to offer Joint Degree, Dual Degree and Twinning Programmes) Regulations, 2021', higher education institutions of India can collaborate with foreign counterparts for credit recognition and transfer, twinning arrangement as well as offer degrees.
