12 Indian Institutions Named among Top 100 Universities in World

Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal 'Nishank' congratulated 12 Indian Institutions on securing a position in the top 100 in the QS Subject Rankings for the year 2021.
While unveiling 'QS World University Rankings by Subject 2021', the Union Minister said that over the last few years, the Government's continuous focus on improvement and reform in Indian higher education has resulted in significant improvement in the representation of Indian institutions in globally acclaimed and reputed rankings like QS.
The 12 Indian institutions which have made it to the top 100 of the world are IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Madras, IIT Kharagpur, IISC Bangalore, IIT Guwahati, IIM Bangalore, IIM Ahmedabad, JNU, Anna University, University of Delhi and O.P. Jindal University.

Bihar Schools to Teach in Regional Language

- Regional languages like Bhojpuri, Magahi and Maithili will be the medium of instruction in elementary schools of Bihar in future, state Education Minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary said, Education Department.
- The minister said that the idea behind adopting regional language as the medium of instruction in elementary schools is to teach students in their mother tongue so that they grasp concepts in a better way.

Indian Women Rank ahead of Global Peers in Leadership Roles

India ranks third in the world for women working in senior management positions, according to the Women in Business 2021 report by global accounting firm Grant Thornton.
The percentage of women in senior management for India stood at 39%, against the global average of 31%, which signals the changing outlook of Indian businesses towards working women.
The percentage of women leaders across key C-Suite positions in the country also emerged higher than the global average in the report.
Globally, businesses with at least one woman in the senior management role increased to 90%. In India, this stands at 98%. As much as 47% of mid-market businesses in India now have women chief executive officers (CEOs) compared with 26% globally.

Principal Scientific Adviser to GOI Launches Swachhta Saarthi Fellowship

The Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India under its Waste to Wealth Mission has launched the Swachhta Saarthi Fellowship to recognise students, community workers or Self-Help Groups, SHGs and municipal or sanitary workers who are engaged in tackling the enormous challenge of waste management, scientifically and sustainably.
The Waste to Wealth Mission is one of the nine national missions of the Prime Minister's Science, Technology, and Innovation Advisory Council, PM-STIAC.
Targeted to encourage community participation, the Swachhta Saarthi Fellowships invites applications from students and community workers who have done previous work or are currently engaged in waste management activities, including awareness campaigns, surveys and studies.

AM and NS India Signs MoU with BITS Pilani to Upskill its Engineers

The ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India (AM/NS India), a joint venture between ArcelorMittal and Nippon Steel - two of the world's leading steel companies - signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Birla Institute of Technology & Science (BITS) Pilani, a leading premier educational institute, to provide a sponsored BTech.
Process engineering degree through Work Integrated Learning Programme without the need for a career break. Facilitated through digital infrastructure over three and half years, the higher education programme will help strengthen employees' technical foundation and build a strong knowledge base, preparing them to work more efficiently through this skill up-gradation opportunity.
The course is spread across seven semesters and would be conducted digitally by the BITS, Pilani faculty. The course also provides enlisted employees easy access to the institute's online state-of-the-art laboratories and libraries as well as to a plethora of recorded lectures on all relevant topics. As part of the course, one semester would be dedicated to practical learning through projects.

Changes in Flipkart's Leadership Team

Flipkart has made key changes to its leadership team as the Walmart-owned e-commerce giant readies for a proposed initial public offering (IPO) by next year. As the firm focuses on building and growing its business further, it has made a few leadership role changes in Flipkart Supply Chain, CDO (category design operations) and M3 (marketing, merchandising and monetization), and Fintech and Payment Group organisations.
Amitesh Jha will be taking up a new role in the CDO and M3 organisation. He has been leading the Ekart-Myntra Supply Chain, Jeeves - F1, CX and Marketplace for the last 3.5 years. Over this time, he has been instrumental in building high performing supply chain, CX and marketplace teams that are strongly committed to customers, sellers and our people.
Ranjith Boyanapalli, senior vice president for fintech and payments group will take on the additional charters of CX, marketplace and the central liquidation team (CLT). Samdani Basha, vice president for CX and Jagjeet Harode, SD - marketplace, with the added mandate of CLT, will now report to Boyanapalli, effective March 1, 2021.
Hemant Badri is joining Flipkart as senior vice president, supply chain, effective March 1, 2021. In this role, Badri will be responsible for the Ekart-Myntra Supply Chain and Jeeves - F1 priorities at Flipkart. All the asset leaders currently reporting to Jha will now report to Badri.

IIT Madras Entrepreneurship Cell to host 'E-Summit'

Indian Institute of Technology Madras' Entrepreneurship Cell will be hosting its annual 'Entrepreneurship Summit,' aimed at driving innovation through engineering challenges, from March 5-14, 2021. This edition of the annual event will be held entirely online and will feature four conclaves - Youth Conclave, Innovators' Conclave, Start-up Conclave and Growth Conclave.
More than 300 startups have registered for the Start-up Conclave while around 2,000 registrations have been recorded for the Innovators' Conclave. In addition, around 800 people have registered for the Growth Conclave, with the Youth Conclave set to attract more than 1000 attendees.
The theme for E-Summit 2021 is 'Sustain to Attain', highlighting the importance of persevering through difficult times. The E-Summit also features a Social Campaign called 'Pankh,' which is focused on enabling the growth of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises through sustainable business models.

Delhi University, Singapore Fine Arts Society Sign MoU on Academic Collaboration in Indian Music

The Delhi University's Faculty of Music and Fine Arts and the Singapore Fine Arts Society (SIFAS) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding for "cultural, academic and research collaboration agreement in Indian music". The MoU was signed at a two-day international webinar, "Traditional Music in Different Cultures: Opportunities and Challenges in the Changing Global Scenario", hosted by the Delhi University's Department of Music.
The MoU will expand the cultural and institutional footprint of both the prestigious musical institutions with a rich historical background – SIFAS commencing its glorious music journey in 1949, and the Department of Music taking its first step towards musical excellence in 1960.
The MoU would also enable the faculty to spread its footprint in South East Asia in collaboration with SIFAS and give the much-needed boost to Indian music and fine arts.

Delhi University Becomes 1st Institution in the Country to Award Digital Degrees

The Delhi University became the first institution in the country to award "digital degrees" to its 1,78,719 students during its 97th annual convocation, its acting vice-chancellor P. C. Joshi claimed.
Owing to the COVID-19 pandemic, the convocation ceremony was conducted in a hybrid manner, a mix of both online and physical mode.
It is for the first time, not only in the history of DU but all universities, that with a click of a button, nearly 1,80,000 students received their Bachelors/Master degrees in various disciplines in their mail. This is a historic step for all of us," claimed Tyagi.
Over 156 medals and 36 prizes were also awarded to the students in person by Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ''Nishank'', who was the chief guest of the occasion. Over 600 doctoral degrees and 44 DM/M CH degrees were also awarded in person during the ceremony.

Four of Top 5 US Banks Hire 25% of MBA Students from IFMR Business School

Despite the Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic, students of the 2-year MBA programme of the IFMR Graduate School of Business (IFMR-GSB), now part of Krea University, saw a good placement season and witnessed a 10 per cent growth in average salaries offered by finance, consulting and technology giants.
With over 80 per cent of the students already placed in the ongoing placement season, finance, consulting and technology companies have hired over 87 per cent of the students already placed. The full batch comprises 175 students.
In the past three years -- between 2017-18 and 2019-20 -- anywhere between 50 and 75 per cent of the students were placed in finance, consulting and technology companies in areas such as financial strategy, business management, risk management, data analytics, compliance and governance, and financial control.
IFMR-GSB said that one of the highlights of this year is that four of the Top 5 US Banks—JP Morgan Chase, Bank of America, Wells Fargo and Citi—have together hired over 40 students which is more than 25 per cent of the students placed till now.
