J-K Lt Governor Launches Super-75 Scholarship Scheme

On International Women's Day, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha announced the launch of Super-75 scholarship scheme to support the education of meritorious girls from poor families, so that they can excel in streams like medicine, engineering, ITI (Industrial training institutes) and humanity and contribute to nation-building.
Strengthening Women Entrepreneurs Ecosystem in J&K, the Lt Governor also announced a new scheme - Tejaswini under Mission Youth, to provide financial assistance of Rs. 5 lakh to the girls between the age group of 18 to 35 years to start their business.
Mission Youth will provide 10 per cent of the project cost and will also pay the interest every year.

AMU to Set up Centre of Sufism and Islamic Philosophy

The Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) has proposed to set up a Centre of Sufism and Islamic Philosophy with the aim to provide a platform for inter-religious studies and dialogues at national and international levels, The centre will re-examine the core issues of Islamic Philosophy in its historic-cultural context. It will also revisit the classical Islamic tests to provide a deeper understanding of Islamic thought, culture and civilisation.
According to Prof. Latif Shah Hussain Kazmi, Chairman, Department of Philosophy, AMU is perhaps the only seat of learning that has three disciplines of Philosophy, namely Indian, Islamic and Western Philosophy.
The proposal to set up the Centre of Sufism and Islamic Philosophy has been passed unanimously at the Ordinary Meeting of the Academic Council.

Study in UK with Commonwealth Shared Scholarships

Commonwealth Shared Scholarships are offered by the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission (CSC) in partnership with UK universities. These scholarships are intended for candidates from least developed and lower middle-income Commonwealth countries for full-time Masters study on selected courses.
Funded by the UK Department for International Development (DFID), these Scholarships enable talented and motivated individuals to gain the knowledge and skills required for sustainable development, and are aimed at those who could not otherwise afford to study in the UK.
The University of Strathclyde, Glasgow is offering 6 scholarships under this scheme.

Sundar Pichai Pledges $25 million to Empower Women in India and Globally

In a bid to support the economic empowerment of women in India, Google and Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai announced $25 million in grants to non-profits and social enterprises in India and around the world.
On the occasion of International Women's Day, Pichai also committed to help 1 million women in rural villages in India to become entrepreneurs through business tutorials, tools and mentorship, as part of the Google Internet Saathi programme.
The company also announced $500,000 Google.org grant to Nasscom Foundation to support 100,000 women agriculture workers with digital and financial literacy.
The virtual event also marked the completion of Google's joint effort with Tata Trusts to empower women across rural India with digital literacy skills via the Internet Saathi programme that was launched in 2015.

AIIMS Psychology PhD not Recognised by RCI

Observing that it would be quite ironic if the PhD degree in Clinical Psychology from AIIMS is not recognised by the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI) when even diploma courses are recognised by it, the Delhi High Court has directed the Centre and the RCI to take a decision within 30 days on a representation regarding recognition of the course as a qualification for rehabilitation professionals.
The court made the observation and passed the order in a petition contending that PhD in Clinical Psychology from AIIMS has not been notified by the RCI under the schedule to Section 11(1) of RCI Act, 1992, the degrees in the schedule are recognised qualifications for rehabilitation professionals.

Delhi to Have Its Own Education Board

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced that a set of Delhi government schools will be de-affiliated from the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and be affiliated to a new Delhi Board of School Education in the upcoming 2021-2022 academic year.
There are over 1,000 schools run by the Delhi government, all of which are currently affiliated to the CBSE. While presenting the 2020 annual budget for Delhi, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia had announced that the government was setting aside Rs. 62 crore to set up a separate state board of education.

IIT Madras Launches 'Women Leading IITM' Programme

Indian Institute of Technology Madras launched the 'Women Leading IITM' (WLI) programme to boost women leadership in science and technology. The Institute has already made considerable progress on improving the number of women students, faculty, staff and creating opportunities for success. This program will help to build on the progress achieved so far and accelerate further progress.
The programme will make grants each year to accelerate women technologists' careers as well as provide a supportive environment for women to thrive at IIT Madras. The inaugural grants are set to be issued on 8th March 2021 to mark the International Women's Day celebrations at IIT Madras.

India's First Forest Healing Centre in Uttrakand's Ranikhet

The country's first forest healing centre based on the concept of making people healthy by bringing them into direct contact with nature was opened to the public at Ranikhet in Kalika Uttarakhand.
Signboards on either side of its slopey entrance advise visitors to hug trees, walk barefoot on the grass, lie on their back and gaze at the swaying trees or the ever changing sky above to soothe their senses.
Drawing inspiration from the Japanese technique of forest bathing (shinrin - yoku), the healing centre has been developed by the research wing of Uttarakhand Forest Department after a detailed study of the revitalising impact of forests on human health.
Spread over an area of around 13 acres, the centre was inaugurated by noted environmentalist from Ranikhet Joginder Bisht.

PM Narendra Modi Dedicates 7500th Janaushadhi Kendra to Nation

Prime Minister Narendra Modi dedicated to the nation the 7,500th Janaushadhi Kendra at North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS), Shillong.
The Prime Minister also addressed Janaushadhi Diwas celebrations and interacted with beneficiaries of Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana and also gave awards to stakeholders by recognising their excellent work.

IIT-Kanpur Launches Online Certificate Programme in Blockchain Technology

The Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur (IIT Kanpur) in partnership with the online learning platform Simplilearn announced a professional certificate programme in blockchain technology. The professionals working as software developers, IT professionals, engineers, analysts, technical leads can pursue this course as it covers the most in-demand skills in the blockchain. The certificate programme is for four months.
The course covered key domains of applications of blockchain technology, bitcoin, platforms that use Blockchain, application building on ethereum, hyper ledger, and other prospects. The programme will be distributed into over 70 hours of applied learning and 50 hours of self-paced learning.

IIM Nagpur Achieves 100% Placement for MBA Batch of 2019-21

IIM Nagpur has completed the Final Placements process for the fifth batch of its flagship Master's
programme in Business Administration (MBA). With the largest batch of 121 students who appeared for the final placement process this year, IIM Nagpur once again achieved 100% placement on 4th March 2021.
The current batch, which was beset by an unpredictable year, successfully adapted to
the virtual mode of campus placements. IIM Nagpur welcomed recruiters across various sectors like Consulting, Banking, Financial Services & Insurance (BFSI), Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG), Consumer Durables, Ed-Tech, E-Commerce, Analytics, and Logistics.

UK to Open New Graduate Route for International Students

The United Kingdom will open a new graduate route for international students from July 1. The new route will be open to students from other countries including India who have completed their course of study at bachelors or doctoral level in the UK.
The bachelor's degree holder will be able to work for a maximum period of two years and three years for doctoral students, the UK government in its release mentioned. The route will be unsponsored, students without a job offer can also apply.
The candidates can also apply for jobs in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. "The new graduate route will help the UK government to achieve the ambition set out in the international education strategy to increase the number of international students in higher education in the UK to 6,00,000 by 2030.
