Arunachal Gets First Formal Indigenous Knowledge System School

Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu has inaugurated the state's first formal indigenous language and knowledge system school in East Kameng district.
The first-of-its-kind school called 'Nyubu Nyvgam Yerko' was inaugurated at Rang village near Seppa.
Mr. Khandu said the school will help in promoting and preserving indigenous traditions, culture and language.
He lauded the Donyi Polo Cultural and Charitable Trust for the initiative and Pai Dawe for donating land for the Gurukul-type institution.
Mr. Khandu said that his government is committed to preserving the indigenous culture of the state and has established the Department of Indigenous Affairs, for which he has earned the praise of people from even the neighbouring states.

Dr. Harsh Vardhan Inaugurates New Advanced High Resolution Microscopy Facility

Union Minister of Health & Family Welfare, Science & technology Dr. Harsh Vardhan inaugurated the new Advanced High Resolution Microscopy Facility at National Agri-Food Biotechnology Institute (NABI) and Unveiled the 4 Star GRIHA Certification of Center of Innovative and Applied Bioprocessing (CIAB) Lab and Admin Building at Mohali in Punjab.
Both NABI & CIAB are autonomous institutes under Dept. of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science & Technology.
Following the gathering Dr. Harsh Vardhan urged both the institutes to address the problems of hunger & malnutrition and to bring nutritional revolution in the country. Minister emphasized that with government impetus on doubling the farmers income by 2022-23, NABI and CIAB's roles are crucial to achieve this ambitious goal.

Delhi Government to Mentor Girls of Classes 9-12 under Education Mentoring Programme

The Delhi Government launched 'Education Mentoring Programme' for girls of classes 9 to 12. Over 200 students from Indira Gandhi Delhi Technological University for Women are going to mentor as many as 1,000 girl students of Delhi government schools in grades 9 to 12 under the AAP dispensation's 'Education Mentoring Programme'.
The Delhi Government initiative comes under 'Youth for Education' initiative, which focuses on mentoring girls studying in grades 9 to 12.
Under the Education Mentoring Programme, each IGDTUW mentor will guide five girls studying in grades 9 to 12, clearing their doubts related to careers in STEM, share strategies for clearing entrance exams, support in accessing learning resources and motivate them as they transition from school to colleges and careers.

IIT Kharagpur, University of Manchester Launch India-UK Dual Doctoral Programme

IIT Kharagpur and The University of Manchester announced the launch of a dual award PhD programme which represents the next phase of their strategic partnership. This will serve to consolidate and build on existing research collaborations across a number of thematic areas including environmental geochemistry, biomaterials and Industry 4.0.
Students will be jointly recruited and spend time in both Manchester and Kharagpur, benefiting from the expertise, facilities and infrastructure of two globally renowned institutions.
The programme, launching this July, will be open to IIT and IISc graduates from India during its initial phase.
Successful candidates will be required to enrol at both institutions spending the first year at IIT Kharagpur with the remaining time on the programme split between the University of Manchester and IIT Kharagpur according to the project requirements as determined by the supervisors and the Joint Programme Board.

Rajasthan Passes Demand for Higher Education Grants

The Rajasthan Assembly has passed the demand for grants of Rs. 370.60 for the higher education by voice vote.
The bill was passed amid the protest by the opposition legislators. The bill was passed in line with the government's focus on the skill development and quality education.
Demand for Grant is a form where the estimates of expenditure from the Consolidated Fund are included in annual financial statement or the Budget. The demand for grant is required to be voted upon in Lok Sabha or in the state assembly. The demand for grants is submitted in light with Article 113 of the Constitution.
It comprises the provisions with respect to the revenue expenditure, grants to state & Union Territory governments, capital expenditure along with the loans and advances. The demand for grant is presented with respect to each ministry or department. On the other hand, for the large ministries and departments more than one demand is put forward. It includes both the voted and the charged expenditure.

Delhi Board of School Education Registered

Delhi Board of School Education (DBSE) to get started as the Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced the official confirmation.
Delhi's Directorate of Education tweeted, "Now Delhi has its own education board. Delhi Education Board got registered today."
The directorate of education has congratulated students, teachers, and other stakeholders adding that this will bring the most awaited reform in their assessment system.
In the coming 2021-22 academic session, 20 to 25 schools will be under the new board, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had earlier said.
On March 6, the Chief Minister had informed that Delhi Cabinet has approved the constitution of its own school education board - the Delhi Board of School Education.
The Governing Body is going to be chaired by the Education Minister. The Executive Body for day-to-day functions will be headed by a CEO. Both bodies will have experts - from professional industries, the education sector, principals of government and private schools, and bureaucrats.

Rajya Sabha Passes Bill to Raise Abortions Limit to 24 Weeks

Rajya Sabha passed a bill to raise the upper limit for permitting abortions from the present 20 weeks to 24 weeks for "special categories of women" including rape survivors, victims of incest, minors and the differently-abled.
The Medical Termination of Pregnancy (Amendment) Bill, 2020 to amend the Medical Termination of Pregnancy Act, 1971 was passed by voice vote. The bill was passed by Lok Sabha about a year ago.
A demand to send the bill to a select committee of Rajya Sabha was defeated by voice vote, along with some other amendments proposed by members.

IIT Mandi Researchers Develop Method for Efficient Removal of Heavy Metals from Water

A research team at the Indian Institute of Technology Mandi, led by Dr. Sumit Sinha Ray, Assistant Professor, School of Engineering, has developed a fibrous membrane filter using a biopolymer-based material to remove heavy metals from water.
The results of this research have recently been published in the prestigious Elsevier journal, Polymer. The paper has been co-authored by Dr. Sinha Ray and his research scholar, Ashish Kakoria, along with Dr. Suman Sinha Ray, Adjunct Assistant Professor, University of Illinois at Chicago.
Acid mine drainage containing large quantity of heavy metals is a menace. Heavy metals in water could lead to several neurological problems in human including Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, and multiple sclerosis, and it is important to develop filters to treat effluents that are released into water bodies to prevent pollution.

Free Education for Classes 9 to 12 in Haryana

During the presentation of the budget after a Covid-hit financial year, the government of Haryana has announced the plans of imparting free education for students of classes 9 to 12 in the state, to motivate more students to graduate from school.
For the fiscal year of 2021-22, the budget announced by the Haryana government mainly focussed on health, agriculture, and infrastructure to recover from the losses incurred due to the Covid-19 pandemic last year.
While announcing the budget for the next year, the government of Haryana also introduced a new initiative in the education system of the state called the 'KG to PG' programme, which will help students pursue higher education with ease.
