Ministry of Skill Invites Applications for Mahatma Gandhi National Fellowship

  • Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, in association with 9 IIMS has invited applications for "Mahatma Gandhi National Fellowship" till March 27, 2021.
  • The programme has invited application in collaboration with IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Bangalore, IIM-Jammu, IIM Udaipur, IIM Kozhikode, IIM Nagpur, IIM Visakhapatnam, IIM Lucknow and IIM Ranchi. It comprises of classroom sessions at IIMs and unique opportunity in order to promote skill planning and development across district economies. It provides a unique opportunity for young and dynamic individuals in order to combine classroom sessions at IIM with engagement in district economies in a bid to promote skill development and skill planning.
  • Mahatma Gandhi National Fellowship 2021-2023 was launched by the 'Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship'. It is a two-year fellowship programme, launched to boost skill development at district level. It has been designed under 'Skills Acquisition and Knowledge Awareness for Livelihood Promotion (SANKALP)'. It seeks to address challenge of non-availability of personnel for implementation of several programmes at national, state and district levels. It comprises of an in-built component of on-ground practical experiences with district administration. This scheme was launched in 75 districts across Gujarat, Meghalaya, Karnataka, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Now, the programme has been rolled out across 660 districts in India.

Kavya Chopra Becomes First Female to score 100 Percentile in JEE

  • Kavya Chopra became the first female to top the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main, results of which were released. She scored a perfect 300 in the exam held in the March session. She had scored 99.978 in the February session but decided to reappear as she set a benchmark for herself of scoring not less than 99.98 percentile.
  • A student of DPS Vasant Kunj in Delhi, Chopra's academic life has been full of achievements. She scored 97.6 per cent in CBSE class 10 exams.
  • An active participant in maths and science olympiads, she had qualified in the Regional Maths Olympiad (RMP) in class 9 and 11. She has also cracked IOQP, IOQC IOQM – some of the few prominent olympiads.

CBSE Launches Competency Based Assessment FRAMEWORK Aligned with NEP

  • The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) launched a competency-based assessment framework for classes 6-10 for three subjects -- English (reading), Science, and Maths.
  • The framework is a part of the CBSE Competency Based Education Project that aims to replace the existing rote learning model as directed in the new National Education Policy (NEP) over the next 2-3 years.
  • The CBSE has had a collaboration with British Council and three UK agencies, Cambridge, NARIC and Alphaplus who are helping CBSE in attaining this objective. The work has already started, and significant progress has been made and we do look forward to this co-operation and working with British Council in the future.

IIT Madras & African-Asian Rural Development Organisation Conduct E-training Programme on Rural T...

  • Indian Institute of Technology Madras is partnering with African-Asian Rural Development Organization (AARDO) to organize an e-training program on technologies for rural areas and their livelihoods (farm and non-farm) with a focus on creating access to value chains and markets.
  • The training program, which began, would be conducted till 1st April 2021. The event is being organised by Team SIDDHI, the technology and Sustainable Development platform of IIT Madras with an emphasis on social relevance and global impact.
  • Select technologies, solutions, and approaches developed by IIT Madras in collaboration with its partner institutions would be showcased during the programme. The course is being held for the benefit of middle and senior-level executives from government departments, ministries, and agriculture engineers and scientists engaged in policy formulation, implementation, planning, and appraisals.

IIT Guwahati and Numaligarh Refinery Limited Join Hands to Support Students Start-up

  • A tripartite incubation support agreement has been signed between IIT Guwahati, Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL) - a public sector company, and Vigitrics Private Limited on March 17, 2021. The agreement was signed by Dean (Industrial Interactions & Special Initiatives) IIT Guwahati, Prof. G. Krishnamoorthy, Senior Chief General Manager (Corporate affairs) NRL, Mr Nikunja Borthakur, and Director, Vigitrics ,Mr. Pharvesh Salman Choudhary in presence of Director, IIT Guwahati Dr. T.G. Sitharam, other officials of NRL, IIT Guwahati and Vigitrics Private Ltd at IIT Guwahati.
  • Vigitrics Private Limited, a start-up company aiming to develop an Intelligent Drowsiness Detection System, will be incubated at the Technology Incubation Centre of IIT Guwahati (IITG-TIC). The start-up company is funded by NRL through its Start-up Funding Program iDEATION. The start-up was founded jointly by two students from IIT Guwahati and a student from Tezpur University, Assam. The co-founders of Vigitrics Private Limited are Pharvesh Salman Choudhary, Director Mousumi Das, Director and Satyabrat Malla Bujarbaruah, Director.

Delhi: 100 Schools of Specialised Excellence Get Govt. Nod

  • The Delhi Cabinet has cleared a proposal to set up 100 schools of "specialised excellence", which are to be modelled for the needs of "gifted students". The proposal for these schools was announced by Deputy CM Manish Sisodia in his budget speech. Currently, there are five Schools of Excellence run by the government. These are the most resource-rich amongst its schools, with the best teachers and infrastructure.
  • The proposed schools of specialised excellence are to cover grades 9-12, and four domains of specialisation — Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), Performing and Visual Arts, Humanities and "high-end 21st century skills". "The idea is that children with interest and ability will be filtered towards specialisation in these areas. These schools are to not just focus on rote learning but on innovation and exploration," said a government representative.

Certificate Programme on Business Model Innovation by IIT-Hyderabad

  • The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT-Hyderabad) launched a certificate programme on business model innovation. The programme in collaboration with Business Design Lab targets business leaders, entrepreneurs, intrapreneurs senior design and strategy professionals.
  • IIT-Hyderabad in its statement mentioned, "Businesses, whether big or small, must pivot their business models and strategies to stay relevant in the market. With unprecedented challenges emerging every day, strong leadership skills, a humane approach to building superior business models is imperative."
  • The course is specially curated focusing on the market needs. Through the programme, the candidates can identify opportunities and design real-time experiments for discovering market needs and validate their riskiest assumptions, as per IIT-Hyderabad.

UGC Recognises CMA on Par with PG Courses

  • The recognition accorded to Cost Management Accountants (CMA) qualification on par with the PG Degree, by the University Grants Commission (UGC), Ministry of Education; has given fillip to the CMA Course. This has opened up multiple new vistas for students opting for it.
  • The CMA course is a specialised Cost Accountancy course, offered by the Institute of Cost Accountants of India (ICAI). With this recognition, the post intermediate two-and-half year CMA course can provide the students with a head start in their career vis-a-vis their peers. It also enables them to pursue for Ph.D. or specialisation courses in India or abroad.
  • Those desiring to pursue teaching profession can also attempt for SLET/NET after completion of CMA.

Karnataka Govt. Launches Online Exam Preparation Portal for JEE Main, NEET

  • The Karnataka government launched an online examination preparation portal for students preparing for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main, National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test (NEET), Common Entrance Test (KCET), close on the lines of last year's initiative. In 2020, the portal was focused on NEET and CET preparations, but JEE is included this year.
  • The initiative has benefitted the students coming from poor socio-economic background. Alongside, the students can access the online exam preparation materials in one go." The portal- GetCETgo was launched in collaboration with Digilearn Pvt Ltd, it is available as an app on the Android Play store and will be available through eDUCATOR.
