STEPapp Ties Up with Bihar Govt. to Support Girl Child Education

STEPapp (Student Talent Enhancement Program Application) app has tied up with the Bihar government to support girl child education in the state.
Educating girls is one of the factors that bring growth prospects in the development of India. Every student, every child, irrespective of their gender, has the right and should be given the privilege to get a quality education.
The STEPapp app has been implemented in more than 3500 schools in Pan India. With more than 27 lakh downloads and more than 31 lakh users, STEPapp has collaborated with the state and central governments to implement the e-learning solution in schools all over the country.

Sikkim Asks Schools to Introduce 11 Local Languages in Curriculum

The Sikkim government has asked all schools in the state to introduce 11 vernaculars in their curriculum from the next academic session for students to pick one as second language.
As of now, students in state-run schools are given Bhutia, Nepali, Lepcha and Limbu as options for second language, and seven more would be added to the list.
Private schools will have to ensure that all 11 local languages, including Tamang, Gurung, Mangar, Sherpa, Mukhia, Rai and Newar, are made a part of the curriculum.

CSIR-Ladakh Inks MoU for S&T Development

Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) and the union territory of Ladakh signed an agreement for the development of the Union Territory through Science and Technology (S&T) interventions.
The agreement was signed by CSIR-IIIM Director D. Srinivas Reddy and Rigzin Samplel who is the Commissioner Secretary of Agriculture and Horticulture, Ladakh UT.
The MoU was signed with the aim of establishing a knowledge partnership between CSIR and the Ladakh UT.
It seeks to develop the areas like exploration of natural resources, introduction of cash crops in the region and bioresource utilisation which is endemic to Ladakh.
CSIR was established by the Government of India in September 1942. It was established as an autonomous body which now is the largest research and development organisation in India. The body is mainly funded by the Ministry of Science and Technology. It is functional as an autonomous body under the Societies Registration Act, 1860. The body is involved into various research and development activities such as structural engineering aerospace engineering, ocean sciences, metallurgy, chemicals, food, life sciences, petroleum, leather, and environmental science.

BITS Launches Management School

Engineering institute BITS Pilani Group launched a management school – BITSoM or BITS School of Management. The school will offer 120 seats.
The admission will be based on CAT, GMAT, GRE. Along with a two-year degree, the institute will offer specialisation in new-age courses including entrepreneurship and innovation, e-commerce and digital leadership, finance, and skill-specific courses including data science, design thinking among others.
The school has been set up with a budget of over Rs. 1500 crore and will be set-up in Mumbai. In the interim, the institute will function from BITS Powai campus.
The institute claims that it would bring faculty from leading business schools across the globe. This will include professors from top B-Schools such as NYU Stern School of Business, Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, Singapore Management University, and Kellogg School of Management, in addition to leading industry practitioners, BITS group claim.

India Ranks 10th in Asia-Pacific Personalised Health Index

India ranked 10^th out of 11 Asia Pacific countries in a newly-launched health index to measure the progress towards personalised healthcare.
The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) report 'Asia-Pacific Personalised Health Index' measures the readiness of 11 health systems across the region–Australia, China, Japan, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand and New Zealand–in adopting personalised healthcare, enabling the right care to be tailored to the right person at the right time.
The 'Personalised Health Index' measures performance against 27 different indicators of personalised health across four categories called 'Vital Signs'. These include Policy Context, Health Information, Personalised Technologies and Health Services.

Microsoft Launches Taj Mahal Inspired Engineering Hub in Noida

After Bengaluru and Hyderabad, tech giant Microsoft has set its sights on Noida. The American multinational launched a new India Development Centre (IDC) facility at Delhi-NCR. This new addition is set to serve as a premier hub for driving cutting-edge engineering and innovation.
The centre will build on Microsoft's commitment to tap India's world-class engineering talent and create solutions for a global impact.
Rajiv Kumar, Managing Director of Microsoft India Research and Development Pvt Ltd, said that the NCR workplace will represent a critical expansion of world-class technology talent and exceptional engineering presence in India.
The IDC in NCR will collaborate with Microsoft Teams worldwide to design and create products that drive digital innovations.

Rajasthan Launches a New School of Public Health

Rajasthan has launched a new School of Public Health. The school was launched in order to make the policy intervention to build the public health capacity and skills. It will also help in bridging the gaps between education and practices in Rajasthan.
The school has been named after the Indian Institute of Health Management Research (IIHMR).
D. Gupta has been appointed as the chairman of the school.
The school of Public Health has taken up a study on non-communicable diseases, climate change and antimicrobial resistance in the first instance of its project. The project was undertaken in order to identify priority areas in public healthcare. Study will be conducted if the data analytics and artificial intelligence are the segments for the public health sector or not.

Kolkata's First Young Readers' Boat Library

The West Bengal Transport Corporation has launched the First Young Readers' Boat Library. The library has been launched in collaboration with a heritage book store. It has been launched on a boat making it the first of its kind initiative.
The boat library was launched with the motive that one can read books while appreciating the beauty of Kolkata.
The boat library will cruise on the Hooghly River.
The library will provide the options for children to choose from a selection of 500 titles in English and Bengali.
It will also host activities like storytelling, poetry sessions, dramatised readings, poetry sessions, music and book launches.

DRDO Offers Online Course on Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Cyber Security

Defence Institute of Advanced Technology, a deemed university and an autonomous organisation funded by the department of defence research and development, is offering short-term programmes on artificial intelligence, machine learning and cybersecurity.
Both the courses are 12-weeks long. The classes will include two hours of contact lectures five days a week. Selection will be based on an online entrance test. Registration for the test is free and anyone who has a graduate or equivalent level of education can apply for these courses.

Janet Yellen to be First Female US Treasury Secretary

Janet Yellen has been confirmed as the first ever female US treasury secretary in a Senate vote.
Ms. Yellen, who headed the US central bank from 2014 to 2018, earlier won bipartisan support from members of the Senate Finance Committee.
She will be responsible for guiding the Biden administration's economic response to the pandemic.
The US is struggling to rebound economically from the hit caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
At her confirmation hearing, Ms. Yellen urged Congress to approve trillions more in pandemic relief and economic stimulus, saying that lawmakers should act big without worrying about national debt.
