Tech Programme exclusively for women by Newton School

Newton School has introduced a tech programme exclusively for women which will help them in skill-building and re-entering the workforce.
The course that begins mid-January will not only help women to re-join the workforce after maternity leave but also enable them to switch their careers and join the tech industry.
Newton School is an online edtech platform that trains people to be highly skilled software developers and gets them placed in top companies as frontend, backend, and full-stack software developers among other roles.
The first batch will have a strength of 100 students. The course is expected to run multiple batches in the coming months and will follow the Pay after Placement model just like other courses being offered by the start-up.
The tech programme introduced by the Newton School, founded in 2019 by serial entrepreneurs and college friends will allow women to learn industry skills without any financial burden.

Bihar Police Nod to Appoint Transgenders

Bihar Police has given a nod to appointment of transgender in the force. For every 500 appointments, a transgender would be appointed. The state police is likely to issue an advertisement regarding recruitment to 10,000 posts of constables soon.
A resolution passed by the state home department on January 14 said the state police had taken a policy decision on the employment of transgender on the pattern of other government departments.
As per the 2011 Census, the state has a population of 10.41 crore and out of them, 40,827 people are transgender — 39 transgender per one lakh population. "As per proportional representation based on population of transgender, Bihar Police can employ 51 transgender as there are sanctioned strength of 1,30,243 police persons. It means 40 constables and 11 sub-inspectors can be appointed from among transgender," said the home department resolution.
The transgender would not be given any relaxation in terms of physical and academic tests during selection. They will be part of the district police force.

ITBP Troops Launch Smart Schools in Chhattisgarh

Troops of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) have launched an internet tools-based learning centre for school-going children in the Naxal violence-affected district of Chhattisgarh. The 'smart' school is located in Hadeli village of Kondagaon district and has about 50 children who are taught by the force personnel with the help of YouTube videos and other online education portals. Kondagaon district headquarters, in the southern part of the central Indian state, is over 210-km from state capital Raipur.
These classes are organised daily by using internet-enabled phones of the jawans.
The troops of the 41st ITBP battalion, posted in the district as part of the anti-Maoist operations grid, are also learning the local Halbi dialect from these children. The ITBP was raised in 1962 in the aftermath of the Chinese aggression and its primary task is to guard the Line of Actual Control (LAC) with China.

IIT Guwahati Researchers Find New Clues to How and Why Stars Die

IIT Guwahati researchers, in collaboration with researchers from Max Planck Institute for Physics, Munich, Germany, and Northwestern University, USA, have revealed important clues to understand the death of massive stars and have also revealed the problems with the existing models.
They found that all three species of the neutrinos from the supernovae are important contrary to the common treatments with only two flavours.
The results of this crucial work have been published and have garnered worldwide attention from the astrophysics community.
The research has been carried out by Dr. Sovan Chakraborty, Assistant Professor, Department of Physics, IIT Guwahati, along with his research scholar, Madhurima Chakraborty, in collaboration with Dr. Francesco Capozzi, Postdoctoral fellow, Max Planck Institute for Physics, Munich, Germany, and Dr. Manibrata Sen, Postdoctoral fellow, Northwestern University, USA.

51 Govt. and 21 Private Colleges to be Set up in Uttar Pradesh

The Uttar Pradesh Government will be setting up 51 government and 28 private colleges in the state. The purpose of opening new colleges is to boost higher education in the state. The Deputy Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Dinesh Sharma said that as many as 120 colleges have started constructing e-learning parks. The Uttar Pradesh Government, as per reports, has granted Rs. 15 lakh as grants against big projects and Rs. 5 lakh for smaller projects.
Earlier, the government has launched several jobs for teachers and scholarships for students. Apart from this, the state government has been actively participating in improving the education sector.

British Council Launches Scholarships for Women in STEM

The British Council launched a number of scholarships for women in STEM. It has established programmes to support women and girls in STEM around the world, designed with a lifecycle approach in mind, from inspiring young girls to stay in STEM to supporting women working in STEM fields reach positions of leadership and network with their peers in their region and the UK.
This year, supported by the British Council, the University of Strathclyde is delighted to announce six fully funded scholarships for female students from South Asia interested in pursuing master's studies in the field of Energy Transition.
The six scholarships are on offer for female students from the following countries: Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Nepal and Sri Lanka.

Amazon India Launches Free Study Material for JEE Aspirants

Amazon India launched Amazon Academy to help students in the preparation for the JEE (Joint Entrance Examination).
