The Farthest Star Ever Seen

  • The Hubble Space Telescope of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has discovered the farthest star ever seen, named 'Icarus.'.The enormous blue star is located over halfway across the universe.
  • The star's light has taken nine billion years to reach the Earth as it is so far away.

SoFi, the Silicon Robotic Fish

  • Researchers from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) have created a silicon robotic fish named 'SoFi' to study the life of oceans.
  • Scientists said that the remote-controlled robot fish swims quietly through coral reefs and schools of fish and uses a fisheye lens to capture high-resolution photos and video with a camera built into its nose.
  • Built with a generic fish design, SoFi is white in colour, weighs less than 1.6 kg and about 47 cm long.
  • The robot fish navigates for up to 40 minutes at depths reaching almost 60 feet.

World's Smallest Computer

  • Tech giant IBM has unveiled the world's smallest computer measuring 1 x 1 mm. This device was unveiled at ongoing IBM Think 2018 Conference.
  • The device is a part of IMB Research's 5 in 5 project. "Within the next five years, cryptographic anchors �" such as ink dots or tiny computers smaller than a grain of salt �" will be embedded in everyday objects and devices."

Seventh Women's Science Congress inaugurated in Manipur

The Women Science Congress, 2018 was inaugurated in the backdrop of the ongoing 105th Indian Science Congress on its 3rd day being held at Manipur University, Imphal. Keshari Nath Tripathi, Governor of West Bengal inaugurated the 7th Edition of Science Congress for women. Prof.Vijay Laxmi Saxena, Former General Secretary, India Science Congress Association (ISCA) and Mrs.Namita Gupta, Scientist, Dept.of Science & Technology graced the function as guests of honors.

Isro plans to build 'igloos' on the moon

Isro has started work on building igloos on the Moon. These 'lunar habitats', as scientists call them, will be built by sending robots and 3D printers to the Moon, and by using lunar soil and other material. Scientists have drawn up five designs of the lunar habitats, and hope their work could contribute to plans of creating outposts on the Moon. Although there's no mission plan yet, Isro wants to have the technology ready for building these structures.
