Plastic-eating Enzyme Accidentally Developed

As per reports, scientists have accidentally developed a plastic-eating enzyme that may be used to combat one of the world's worst pollution problems.

The discovery could result in a recycling solution for millions of tonnes of plastic bottles made of PET, which currently persists for hundreds of years in the environment.

ISRO Completes Final Orbit Raising Operations

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has successfully carried out the fourth and final orbit raising operations of navigation satellite, IRNSS-1I.

The achieved perigee height (nearest point to the earth) is 35,462.9 km and apogee height (farthest point to the earth) is 35,737.8 km.

The IRNSS-1I was launched on April 12.

Navigation Satellite INRSS-1I Put Into Orbit

The Indian Space Research Organisation's navigation satellite INRSS-1I was launched by PSLV-C41 from the spaceport in Sriharikota and successfully placed in the designated orbit. PSLV-C41/IRNSS-1I Mission blasted off from the first launch pad at the Sathish Dhawan Space Centre.

IRNSS-1I is expected to replace IRNSS-1A, the first of the seven navigation satellites, which was rendered ineffective after its three rubidium atomic clocks failed. The seven satellites are part of the NavIC navigation satellite constellation.

Hubble Precisely Measures Distance to Ancient Star Cluster

Scientists using NASA's Hubble Space Telescope have for the first time precisely measured the distance to one of the oldest objects in the universe, a 13.4 billion-year-old cluster of stars born shortly after the Big Bang. The refined distance yardstick provides an independent estimate for the age of the universe. It will also help astronomers improve models of stellar evolution. Star clusters are the key ingredient in stellar models because the stars in each grouping are at the same distance, have the same age, and have the same chemical composition.

NASA Hires Lockheed Martin to Build Supersonic Plane

NASA has inked a deal with Lockheed Martin to develop a supersonic "X-plane" that could break the sound barrier without a sonic boom. The $247.5 million contract allows for the design, building and testing of a plane that would make its first test flight in 2021.
