Indian-American Ravi Chaudhary New Assistant Secretary of US Air Force
The United States Senate confirmed Indian-American Ravi Chaudhary as the Assistant Secretary of Defense for the Air Force, one of the top civilian leadership positions in the Pentagon.
The Senate voted 65-29 to confirm the former Air Force officer's nomination with more than a dozen votes being cast by the opposition Republican Party.
Chaudhary previously served as a Senior Executive at the US Department of Transportation where he was Director of Advanced Programs and Innovation, Office of Commercial Space at the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

India Trumps China in Unicorn Creation for Second Consecutive Year
India in 2022 created more new unicorns than China for the second year in a row despite macroeconomic uncertainty and recessionary fear affecting investments.
As many as 23 Indian firms crossed the $1-billion valuation mark for unicorn status, compared to China's 11. Deal value in India shrunk 33 per cent from $38.5 billion in 2021 to $25.7 billion in 2022, said the report by IVCA-Bain & Company.

NASA Unveils New Generation of Spacesuit for Humanity's Return Trip to Moon
NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration) unveiled a new generation of spacesuit for humanity's return trip to the Moon. The novel design of the spacesuit comes with specialist features to support astronauts as they conduct scientific experiments on the lunar surface. The prototype is said to be a better fit for female space travellers.
NASA said that it hopes to have the updated suit ready for the Artemis III mission to the Moon in 2025.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino Re-elected for another Term
Gianni Infantino was re-elected as FIFA president until 2027 by acclamation, after highlighting his strong financial performance as a reason for keeping a CEO in their position for life. The decision was made by the congress of 211 member federations, who have seen their annual funding from FIFA increase from $250,000 to $2 million since Infantino's first win in 2016. Following the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, FIFA now has $4 billion in reserves, and it conservatively predicts a record revenue of at least $11 billion from the 2026 men's World Cup, which will be hosted in North America.
In 2016, Gianni Infantino was elected as FIFA president amidst a crisis that emerged after a wide-ranging corruption investigation by the United States federal authorities that resulted in the removal of numerous soccer officials in the Americas.

India Hosts Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Tourism Ministers' Meeting
India hosted the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Tourism Ministers' Meeting (TMM) March 17 and 18, 2023 in Kashi (Varanasi), which was designated as the first cultural capital of the SCO. India is the current chair of Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO).
India assumed the SCO (Shanghai Cooperation Organisation) Chairship for 2023.
During TMM, Tourism Joint Action Plan on the Development of Cooperation in Tourism among SCO member countries was adopted. The TMM was preceded by 2nd Tourism Expert Working Group Meeting from March 14 to 15, 2023, which discussed and finalised Tourism Joint Action before being adopted at the SCO Tourism Ministers' meet on March 17, 2023.
The eight member countries of SCO represent around 42% of the world population and 25% of the global GDP.
The Indian Navy deployed a P8I aircraft to Guam, USA, to participate in the third edition of 'Exercise Sea Dragon 23', a coordinated multi-lateral Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) exercise for Long Range MR ASW aircraft organized by the US Navy. The exercise, scheduled from March 15 to 30, 2023, will focus on coordinated ASW tactics among the participating countries and will involve advanced ASW drills.
Exercise Sea Dragon is a biennial, multi-national naval exercise focused on Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) training, tactics, and procedures. The exercise has been held since 2015 and is organized by the US Navy. The exercise involves the participation of naval forces from multiple countries in the Indo-Pacific region, including India, Japan, Canada, and the Republic of Korea. The aim of the exercise is to enhance the collective ASW capabilities of the participating navies, while also promoting mutual trust and cooperation between friendly nations. The scope and complexity of the exercise have increased over the years, reflecting the growing importance of ASW in the Indo-Pacific region.

Saraswati Samman instituted by the K.K. Birla Foundation in 1991 is recognized as the most prestigious and the highest literary award in the country. It carries an award money of Rs. 15 lakh, a citation and a plaque.
Sivasankari's literary career spans over five decades. She is the author of 36 novels, 48 novellas, 150 short stories, 15 travelogues, seven collections of essays and three biographies, including one on former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
The Saraswati Samman is given every year for an outstanding literary work written in any Indian language by an Indian citizen in the last 10 years preceding the specified Samman year. Supreme Court Orders for Only 10% Seats in Higher Judiciary to be Filled up by Departmental Competitive Examination
The Supreme Court directed the Madhya Pradesh High Court for complying with its directions that were issued in the case of All India Judges' Association and Others v. Union of India.
As per the directions issued the High Court while filling up posts in the higher judiciary, can reserve only 10 per cent seats to be filled up by limited departmental competitive examination.
A division bench comprising of Justices M. R. Shah and Justice C. T. Ravikumar instructed the High Court for examining if 10 per cent quota was breached in any recruitment subsequent to January 1, 2011, and if such breach has occurred, to adjust such posts in future recruitments.
