Indian Origin Lecturer Wins the Prize for Literature in Singapore
An Indian-origin lecturer at Nanyang Technological University won the Singapore Literature Prize for English fiction for her short story – 'Nine Yard Sarees'.
Prasanthi Ram's debut work was published in late 2023.
The short story cycle is about generations of a Tamil Brahmin family dispersed across Singapore, Sydney, New York and Connecticut.
The Singapore Literature Prize a biennial award in Singapore recognises outstanding published works by Singaporean authors in any of the four official languages: Chinese, English, Malay and Tamil. The competition is organised by the Singapore Book Council (SBC) with the support of the National Art Council.

Komal Panda Wins James Dyson Award
Odisha-based Komal Panda is the national winner of India for the James Dyson Award 2024 for her innovation, Novocarry, a portable cooling carrier that helps keep insulin and other liquid medication under desired temperatures. The national winner will receive a prize money of approximately Rs. 5 lakh.
Novocarry's advanced cooling technology preserves insulin potency during long-distance travel, even in areas with limited electricity, and its powerful battery doubles as a charging station, making it a uniquely versatile solution. Komal's inspiration came from her father who used to struggle to store and transport insulin due to the lack of refrigeration at his office.

International Vulture Awareness Day
The first Saturday of September marks International Vulture Awareness Day (IVAD), an annual event dedicated to raising awareness about the world's most imperilled group of birds. This initiative, which began in South Africa and the United Kingdom, has been observed since September 2009. Vultures, often misunderstood and unfairly maligned, play a crucial role in maintaining ecological balance. Despite their association with death and perceived negative traits, these birds are, in fact, the unsung heroes of the natural world. As the only land-dwelling obligate scavengers, vultures provide essential ecological services that benefit both the environment and human society.

The Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) was awarded the prestigious Gold Award under the category "Application of Emerging Technologies for Providing Citizen-Centric Services" in the National Awards for e-Governance (NAeG) during the 27th National Conference on e-Governance (NCeG).
The National Awards for e-Governance by the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DARPG) are recognised amongst the most competitive and prestigious digital governance recognition in the country. The objective of the award is to recognise and promote excellence in implementation of e-Governance initiatives and to encourage innovation in successful e-Governance solutions. The NAeG are conferred under different categories each year during the National Conference on E-Governance (NCeG). The Conference is organised every year by the DARPG in collaboration with Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) and respective State Government hosting the annual event. The Government of Maharashtra hosted the 27th Edition of the NCeG in Mumbai, Maharashtra.
