Israel Unveils 5th Generation Merkava Battle Tank

  • Israel unveiled the next generation main battle tank Merkava Mark 5, also known as 'Barak', which translates to 'lightning' in Hebrew, which has incorporated artificial intelligence (AI) technologies and electronically controlled weapons.
  • Defense Minister Yoav Gallant said that the Barak tank, represents an exceptional leap forward and showcases the military's technological capabilities, once again ensuring its qualitative advantage.
  • The tank, also known as the Merkava Mark 5 tank, is expected to become operational by the end of 2023 and will gradually replace the Merkava Mark 4, which currently forms the backbone of the Israeli armored corps, according to a separate statement from the military.

ASEAN Kicks Off its First-ever Joint Military Drills in Indonesia

Second Edition of Indian Navy's Naval Innovation and Indigenisation Seminar (SWAVLAMBAN-2023)

  • The Indian Navy is set to host the second edition of the Naval Innovation and Indigenisation (NIIO) Seminar, known as 'Swavlamban 2023,' scheduled to take place on October 4 and 5, 2023. This event follows the maiden edition of the seminar, which was held in July 2022 and marked a significant milestone in the Navy's quest for innovation and self-reliance.
  • In the inaugural edition of 'Swavlamban' in 2022, the Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled the 'SPRINT' initiative, which has since become a driving force behind the Indian Navy's pursuit of indigenous technology adoption. Tenth Meeting of India-Malaysia Joint Sub-Committee on Defence Science

  • The 10th meeting of India-Malaysia Joint Sub-Committee on Defence Science, Technology and Industry Cooperation was held in New Delhi. The meeting was co-chaired by Joint Secretary (Naval Systems), Department of Defence Production, Ministry of Defence Rajeev Prakash and Under Secretary, Defence Industry Division, Ministry of Defence, Malaysia Eris Jemadi bin Tajudin.
