Bharatiya Vayuyan Vidheyak Bill Gets President Murmu's Assent

  • The bill that seeks to facilitate the designing and manufacturing of aircraft in India received assent from President Droupadi Murmu.
  • The Bharatiya Vayuyan Vidheyak, which replaces the 90-year-old Aircraft Act, was cleared by the Parliament earlier this month.
  • An Act to provide for regulation and control of the design, manufacture, maintenance, possession, use, operation, sale, export and import of aircraft and matters connected therewith or incidental thereto.

Kejriwal Promises $25 Monthly Aid for Women under 'Mahila Samman Yojana' if AAP Wins Delhi Election

  • Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convener and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced that the 'Mahila Samman Yojana' was approved by the Delhi government. Under the scheme, which is aimed at women's empowerment, eligible women in the national capital will be granted a monthly financial aid of Rs. 1,000 ($12 approx.).
  • Kejriwal also said that while the current amount is set at Rs. 1,000 ($12 approx.), it will be increased to Rs. 2,100 ($25 approx.) if the AAP wins the upcoming Delhi assembly elections that are likely to be held in February next year. The present assembly's tenure will end on February 23, 2025.

PM Modi Launches LIC's Bima Sakhi Yojana for Women Empowerment

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the LIC's Bima Sakhi Yojana in Panipat, Haryana, aiming to empower women by integrating them into the insurance sector. The initiative seeks to train and enroll 100,000 women in the first year and 200,000 women within three years as career agents. Targeting women aged 18-70 with a minimum education level of 10th grade, the scheme offers financial independence and contributes to societal welfare. PM Modi emphasised the transformative impact 
  • Women are expected to earn an average of Rs. 15,000 monthly as LIC agents, selling approximately 24 policies annually.
  • Selected candidates receive stipends—Rs. 7,000 in the first year, Rs. 6,000 in the second, and Rs. 5,000 in the third year—besides commissions.

Andhra Pradesh Launches The Urjaveer Scheme to Promote Energy Efficiency

  • Andhra Pradesh's Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu launched the AP Urjaveer Scheme to promote energy efficiency. The scheme trains 1,12,000 private electricians to handle energy-efficient appliances. A network of Urjaveer-trained workers will promote six appliances: LED inverter lamps, LED tubelights, BLDC ceiling fans, 5-star air conditioners, induction stoves, and LED bulbs. The initiative aims to make energy conservation a lifestyle at the grassroots level. 
  • EESL and Andhra Pradesh will jointly run the National Efficient Cooking Programme (NECP) with the Women Development & Child Welfare Department.

Parliament Passes Bharatiya Vayuyan Vidheyak 2024

  • The Bharatiya Vayuyan Vidheyak 2024 was passed in the Rajya Sabha by a voice vote. It was earlier cleared by the Lok Sabha in August.
  • The bill seeks to remove redundancies and replace the Aircraft Act, 1934, which has been amended 21 times.
  • The bill focuses on enhancing safety, regulatory oversight, and consumer protection while aligning with international standards. The bill also promotes self-reliance in aircraft manufacturing, encourages investment, and establishes robust governance structures for civil aviation authorities.

RS Clears Bill for Regulating Boilers, Safety of Life, Property

  • The Rajya Sabha cleared a bill with provisions for regulation of boilers, safety of life and property from explosions, and uniformity in registrations.
  • The Boilers Bill, 2024, which seeks to repeal the century-old Boilers Act, 1923, was cleared in the Upper House by a voice vote. The bill has provisions to ensure the safety of people working inside a boiler apart from repair of boilers to be undertaken by qualified and competent persons.
