The government extended by a month the due date to resolve pending appeals in the case of income tax disputes under the Vivad Se Vishwas Scheme.
The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) extended the due date for determining amount payable from December 31, 2024, to January 31, 2025.
The Vivad Se Vishwas Scheme was initially announced in the Union Budget for 2024-25. On September 20, the CBDT notified the Scheme that came into force with effect from October 1, 2024.
The Scheme provides for lesser settlement amounts for a 'new appellant' in comparison to an 'old appellant'.

Govt. Distributes Property Cards under SVAMITVA Scheme
Prime Minister Narendra Modi distributed over 50 lakh property cards under SVAMITVA Scheme to property owners in over 46,000 villages in 200 districts across 10 States and 2 Union territories.
SVAMITVA scheme was launched by Prime Minister, in April 2020, with a vision to enhance the economic progress of rural India by providing 'Record of Rights' to households possessing houses in inhabited areas in villages through the latest surveying drone technology.
The scheme also helps facilitate monetization of properties and enabling institutional credit through bank loans; reducing property-related disputes; facilitating better assessment of properties and property tax in rural areas and enabling comprehensive village-level planning.

Maharashtra Passes Prison Reforms Bill
The Maharashtra Assembly passed a Bill seeking to reform the prison system in the State.
The Maharashtra Prisons and Correctional Services Act, 2024, is based on the Model Prisons Bill, 2023, sent by the Centre to the States.
The Bill provides for categories of prisons such as special prison, open prison for women, temporary prison and open colony. Open prisons and open colonies will help with rehabilitation and reintegration of former jail inmates.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee launched the'"Banglar Bari' housing scheme, a state-funded initiative aimed at providing affordable housing to the people of West Bengal. This move came as a response to the alleged negligence by the BJP-led Central government regarding the distribution of funds under the Prime Minister Awas Yojana (PMAY). The launch, which took place at the state secretariat Nabanna, involved the handing over of the first installment of Rs. 60,000 to 42 beneficiaries across 21 districts.
