Gujarat High Court Observes Forcing Kids Below Three to Attend Pre-school is Illegal

Parents who force children below the age of three years to attend preschool are committing an illegal act, the Gujarat High Court said while dismissing a batch of pleas challenging the state government's decision to set six years as the minimum age limit for Class 1 admission in the academic year 2023-24.
Quoting Rule 8 of the RTE Rules, 2012, which deals with admission procedures in a preschool, the court said no preschool shall admit a child who has not completed three years of age as of June 1 of the year.

Dharmendra Pradhan Launches the Malaviya Mission - Teachers Training Programme by University Gran...

Dharmendra Pradhan, the Union Minister for Education, introduced the Malaviya Mission – Teacher Training Program at Kaushal Bhawan in New Delhi as a crucial step in improving the standard of education in India. This ambitious project is spearheaded by the University Grants Commission (UGC) in partnership with the Ministry of Education. The Malaviya Mission - Teacher Training Programme aims to provide tailored training programmes for teachers. This programme will work for the capacity building of faculty members in higher educational institutions.
In a symbolic gesture, Minister Pradhan announced the renaming of Human Resource Development Centres (HRDCs) as Madan Mohan Malaviya Teachers' Training Centres.
This renaming not only pays tribute to the renowned educationist Madan Mohan Malaviya but also underscores the program's commitment to elevating the status of teacher training in India.
The Malaviya Mission plans to establish 111 centres across India to ensure comprehensive coverage. These centres will serve as hubs for teacher training and professional development, catering to the needs of educators in different regions.
The program's reach is extensive, with the goal of building the capacities of 15 lakh teachers in higher educational institutions.

IIT Kanpur Unveils Affordable Touch-sensitive Braille Learning Device

IIT Kanpur came up with a ground-breaking touch-sensitive Braille learning device that promises to redefine learning for the visually impaired. Engineered by Professor Siddhartha Panda and Vishwaraj Srivastava at the National Centre of Flexible Electronics (NCFlexE), IITK, the 'Single Refreshable Braille Cell Based Braille Learning Device with a Touch Sensitive Array'.
The new device provides the visually impaired with a powerful and affordable tool to embark on their Braille learning journey. With Braille literacy rates alarmingly low across the globe, this ground-breaking invention aims to close the glaring gap in accessible education.

India Creates 'World's Smallest' Emergency Hospital Shaped Like Rubik's Cube

The Defence Ministry in collaboration with the Health Ministry and HLL Lifecare has developed a small hospital in the shape of Rubik's Cube. The hospital was donated to Myanmar and the government is preparing to donate a similar hospital to Sri Lanka as well. It has been prepared under Project Bheeshma and the hospital was named Arogya Maitri Cube.
In Arogya Maitri Cube, India has built the world's smallest emergency hospital, which is enclosed in square boxes like a game of Rubik's Cube. This small hospital is enclosed in 72 square boxes. The hospital is so small that it can be carried anywhere, can be airlifted and won't break even if it's thrown from the sky to the ground or won't get spoiled even if dropped into water.
It has three iron frames, 36 boxes and weighs 720 kg. There is a QR code on every box, which can be scanned to know details like which box contains medicines and their expiry date. The QR codes also show which box has the material for fracture treatment and which has the facility for X-ray.

IIT Madras Includes 'International Immersion Learning' to its MBA Programme

The Department of Management Studies, Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) included an 'International Immersion Learning' component to its executive MBA programme for working professionals.
The core focus of the International Immersion Learning programme is on Global Leadership and Cultural Intelligence. Under this initiative, several students from the '23 and '24 batches of the executive MBA programme attended a 9-day immersion programme at IÉSEG School of Management in two countries and three locations – Brussels in Belgium and Paris, Lille in France.

IIT Jodhpur Scientists Develop 'CODE' Device for Good Indoor Air Quality

Indian Institute of Technology Jodhpur researchers developed a novel Cold-plasma Detergent in Environment 'CODE' device for good indoor air quality. The device has been tested extensively which deactivates more than 99.99 per cent of harmful pathogens and provides quality indoor air. Air pollution is basically one of the top 5 risks causing chronic diseases, according to the World Health Organisation.

IIM-Calcutta Director Uttam Kumar Sarkar Resigns

The Director of the Indian Institute of Management-Calcutta (IIM-C), Uttam Kumar Sarkar, is learnt to have resigned over differences with the Board chairperson, making him the second institute head in two years to leave before completing a five-year term.
Sarkar was appointed director on August 18, 2021, and still had almost three years left of his term.
Incidentally, Sarkar's predecessor, Anju Seth, who was the first woman director of IIM-C, quit in March 2021. She had more than a year left of her term.

NCERT Granted Deemed University Status: Dharmendra Pradhan

The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) was granted the status of deemed university, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan announced.
The minister made the announcement at an event to mark the 63rd Foundation Day of NCERT in the national capital.
Pradhan also called for the merging of Bal Bhavans and Bal Vatika with the NCERT to provide holistic education to children.
NCERT was established in 1961 under the Society Act to assist and advise the government in the matter of school education. Its headquarters are located at in New Delhi. Dr. Dinesh Prasad Saklani is Director of the council since 2022.
It was formed through the merger seven government organizations: the Central Institute of Education, The Central Bureau of Textbook Research, the Central Bureau of Educational and Vocational Guidance, the Directorate of Extension Programmes for Secondary Education, the National Institute of Basic Education, the National Fundamental Education Centre, and the National Institute of Audio-Visual Education. It is separate from the National Council for Teacher Education.

French Language to be Included in Telangana Govt. School Curriculum

In a new initiative that aims to enhance the grooming of students at a secondary level of education, the Telangana government decided to introduce French language in Telangana government schools.
The programme, titled 'French for All, French for a Better Future', is a joint effort by the Telangana Social Welfare Residential Educational Institutions Society (TSWREIS), the Telangana Tribal Welfare Residential Educational Institutions Society (TTWREIS) and the French Institute in India (IFI).
The agreement to introduce the French language in Telangana schools was officially sealed when the mentioned parties signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
In this collaboration, the French Institute (IFI) will train teachers in communicative French, give students access to its cultural and academic platforms, as well as organise workshops and seminars to inform them about study opportunities in France.

Nagaland's First Medical College Welcomes First Batch of 100 Students

The Nagaland Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (NIMSR), the state's first medical college, became functional with the induction of the first batch of 100 students.
NIMSR dean-cum-director Dr. Soumya Chakraborty said that the first batch has 100 MBBS students -- 85 from Nagaland and 15 from other parts of the country.
