IIM Kashipur Hosts 'G20 University Connect' Lecture Series

In a bid to foster global awareness and nurture innovative thinking, the Indian Institute of Management, IIM Kashipur hosted a remarkable lecture series under the 'G20 University Connect' initiative.
The event centred on the theme 'Engaging Young Minds,' resonating with the institute's commitment to grooming the leaders of tomorrow. The lecture series commenced with the presence of a distinguished guest, Ambassador L Savithri, an esteemed personality from the Ministry of External Affairs, India.

IIT Roorkee Inaugurates National Youth Conference on Indian Knowledge System

The Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee (IIT Roorkee} held the inaugural session of the National Youth Conference on Indian Knowledge Systems (NYCIKS) at the MAC Auditorium as part of G20 University Connect: Celebrating the Indic wisdom. The conference was organised in collaboration with the IKS division, MoE; Central Sanskrit University, New Delhi; University of Patanjali; CCRYN, Ministry of Ayush and IIT Roorkee Alumni Association.
The inaugural session of the National Youth Conference on Indian Knowledge System (IKS) held at IIT Roorkee was marked by a strong emphasis on the importance of developing genuine study material related to IKS. Developing Genuine Study Material on the Indian Knowledge System (IKS) is the need of time was the main thrust of speakers at the Inaugural session of three days National Youth Conference on IKS at IIT Roorkee.

JNU Professor Gobardhan Das Appointed is New Director of IISER Bhopal

Professor Gobardhan Das was appointed the new director of the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) Bhopal. He is the institute's third director since its inception.
The seat was previously held by Siva Umapathy. Prof. Umapathy had held the post from September 2018 to August 22, 2023.
Prior to assuming this position, Prof. Das held the chair of Special Centre for Molecular Medicine at Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. He was also a professor at the same institute.
Prof. Das obtained a doctoral degree (PhD) in Immunology, specialising in host-pathogen relationship, from the Institute of Microbial Technology, Chandigarh in 1997.
IISER Bhopal is the youngest of the five IISERs in the country. It was established by the Ministry of Education (then Ministry of Human Resource & Development), Government of India, in 2008.

UGC Nominates University of Jammu as Nodal Institution to Implement NEP in J&K

The University of Jammu was designated as the nodal university by the University Grants Commission (UGC) to spearhead the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
This distinction brought great pride and honour to the institution.
Notably, as part of the larger initiative, UGC has formed five zonal committees to facilitate the voluntary implementation of NEP across higher education institutions throughout the country.
With this new role, the University of Jammu will play a central role in creating awareness, arranging programs, and offering guidance to higher education institutions within Jammu and Kashmir to effectively implement NEP, thereby providing a platform to exchange and adopt best practices.

IIT Hyderabad, DGQA Partner for MTech Programmes

To foster innovation and academic collaboration, the Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad (IITH) and the Directorate General of Quality Assurance (DGQA) joined forces to launch a range of academic programmes.
The MoU was exchanged between R. A. Govardhan, Officiating Director, DIQA, and Prof. B. S. Murty, Director, IITH at the IIT campus.
The partnership includes a diverse spectrum of themes and fields of interest, notably including Software Engineering and Testing, AI, Quality Management, Data Sciences, Micro Electronics and VLSI, Communications and Signal Processing, Integrated Computational Material Engineering, EV Technologies, and Smart Mobility.

Bengal Governor Collaborates with ISRO to Combat Ragging on Campuses

West Bengal Governor, C. V. Ananda Bose, took a significant step to address the pervasive issue of ragging on college and university campuses by seeking the expertise of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) to develop a suitable technological solution.
The urgency of this action was underscored by a tragic incident earlier this month (August 2023), where a first-year undergraduate student from Jadavpur University lost his life after reportedly falling victim to ragging and sexual harassment within a university hostel. This unfortunate event prompted widespread outrage and concern throughout West Bengal.

2 Indian Languages for Classes 9-10, 1 for Classes 11-12

Students in classes 9 and 10 will now have to mandatorily study three languages, including two Indian native ones, while students in classes 11-12 will have to study one Indian and one other language, according to the New Curriculum Framework (NCF). The NCF has been prepared according to the new National Education Policy (NEP) by the national steering committee, headed by former ISRO chief K. Kasturirangan.
At present, class 9 and 10 students study two mandatory languages and class 11 and 12 students study one language. So far, the students from 9 to 12 have to mandatorily study five subjects with an option of adding one additional subject. According to the recommendations made in NCF, the number of mandatory subjects will be seven for classes 9-10 and six for classes 11-12.

UP Cabinet Approves 18 'Atal Residential' Schools

The Uttar Pradesh Cabinet approved developing 18 Atal Residential Schools along the lines of the centre-run Navodaya Vidyalayas at a cost of Rs. 1,250 crore.
The 18 Atal Residential Schools will come up in all 18 divisions of Uttar Pradesh.
The capacity of these schools will be 1,000 students, including 500 girls and as many boys. It will have classes from six to twelve. Children whose studies were affected by Covid-19 pandemic can also get admission to these schools.

Former President Ram Nath Kovind Inaugurates Kerala's First AI School

Kerala took a significant step towards the integration of technology in education with the inauguration of its first Artificial Intelligence (AI) school in Thiruvananthapuram. The inauguration ceremony, graced by former President Ram Nath Kovind, marked a transformative moment for education in the state.
The pioneering AI School, located at Santhigiri Vidyabhavan, has been developed in collaboration with iLearning Engines (ILE) USA, a globally renowned educational platform, and Vedhik eSchool.
The launch of Kerala's first AI School ushers in a new era of education, combining technology, innovation, and accessibility to pave the way for a brighter future for students.
