SPJIMR Top-ranked B-School in India, IIM-Ahmedabad Next

  • The SP Jain Institute of Management and Research (SPJIMR) was placed among the top Indian business schools in the Financial Times Masters in Management (MiM) global rankings for 2023. The Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan's SPJIMR was ranked in the 40th position globally and obtained the top position among India's management institutes for its two-year full-time postgraduate diploma in management (PGDM) with IIM Ahmedabad following at the 43rd spot.
  • This is the fourth consecutive year in which SPJIMR was ranked among the world's top 50 business schools.
  • As many as 11 Indian institutions including SPJIMR, IIM Ahmedabad (43rd), IIM Calcutta (60th) and IIM Lucknow (72nd) bagged a spot in the FT Masters in Management rankings 2023. HEC Paris, University of St Gallen Switzerland and London Business School UK were placed in the top three positions in the FT Masters in Management Rankings 2023. The top ranks were dominated by the European institutions from countries including France, Spain and Italy.

Kerala Compiles Deleted NCERT Portions in New Textbooks

  • The Kerala government said that it was the only state in the country to compile all the portions removed by the NCERT from school textbooks and create a new textbook for students to study and appear for exams.
  • As per State General Education Minister V. Sivankutty, the government took such a stand in accordance with Kerala's exemplary educational background.
  • Sivankutty said that the policy was not completely accepted in the country as Tamil Nadu had rejected it in its entirety and Karnataka has only agreed to implement some portions of it.

NMC Releases List of 1200+ Approved Medical Collges after Fake Approval Scam

  • The National Medical Commission (NMC) released a list of over 1200 medical colleges along with the number of approved MBBS and PG seats each institution holds. The proactive measure was prompted by a recent scam involving fake approval letters for various medical colleges.
  • The NMC-issued listing includes in-depth details about the approved Medical Colleges for the academic year 2023-24. The document contains the name of the college, state, course, application type, and the number of approved undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) seats as sanctioned by the Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB).

ICAI Sets Guinness World Record for Conducting Largest Accounting Lesson

  • The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) set the Guinness World Record for conducting the largest accounting lesson ever held in a single location.
  • Held in Jaipur, Rajasthan, the mega event titled 'Career in Accounting & Finance for Youth (CAFY) and Super Mega Career Counseling Programme- Bhavishya ki Raah' left an indelible mark on the enthusiastic young minds of India. With an overwhelming turnout of school students, the event served as a platform for ICAI to reaffirm its commitment to nurturing the future of accounting and finance professionals.
  • A total of 3933 students gathered under one roof to attend the largest accounting lesson.
  • The event was organised at over 300 different places, and nearly 200,000 students from all around the country got to experience it. This programme aimed to enlighten students about the prospects in commerce and Chartered Accountancy, demonstrating that becoming a Chartered Accountant is the beginning of a journey filled with endless possibilities.

IIT Patna to Host 37th Edition of All IITs Placement Committee

  • The Indian Institute of Technology Patna will organise the 37th edition of the All IITs Placement Committee (AIPC) meeting on September 23. The meeting will be attended by top officials of placement cells and career development cells of the 23 IITs.
  • This will be the first time that IIT Patna will host the All IITs Placement Committee meeting. It will be attended by IITs including IIT Delhi, IIT Bombay, IIT Kanpur, IIT Madras, and IIT Kharagpur, along with IIT Patna.
  • As per the information, this AIPC meeting will be held to discuss issues with respect to the placement and internship opportunities of the students pursuing their courses in the academic session 2023-24. The meeting will focus on suggesting new methods to provide better employability for the students.

IIT Bombay Forms New Science and Tech Partnership with University of Chicago

  • The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay partnered the Chicago Quantum Exchange (CQE) headquartered at the University of Chicago. The new partnership between the two institutes seeks to promote cooperation in fields of quantum information science, climate and energy, advanced microelectronics, artificial intelligence and data science.
  • The announcement was made by the governments of India and the US today and was highlighted during the meeting of the US President Joe Biden and Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi at the G20 summit in New Delhi. IIT Bombay joined CQE as one of only five worldwide academic partners. IIT Bombay anchors one of the leading centers for quantum research in India, the Quantum Information Computing Science and Technology (QuICST) Hub.

Berhampur University Signs Agreement for UK-funded Scholarship on Marine Science

  • Berhampur University, Odisha signed an agreement with the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU) for implementation of ocean country partnership programme (OCPP).
  • Under this agreement, the Centre for Environment, Fisheries and Aquaculture Science (CEFAS), a UK government agency, will provide scholarship for at least five students of the Marine Science Department of the varsity.
  • As per the agreement, the MoU will remain in force for a minimum period of two years, and can be extended further as per the requirement of ACU and the Berhampur University.
  • The scholarship has been set up with the aim to support research in marine pollution, sustainable seafood and marine biodiversity. The ACU, on behalf of the Centre for Environment, Fisheries and Aquaculture will provide tuition fee and living allowance.

India Wins Gold at International Olympiad for Informatics

  • This year (2023), a team of four students went to the International Olympiads for Informatics. It is one of the top five science olympiads across the world. India has been participating in international competition for the last 22 years and this year, the Indian team won a gold medal after nine years. This is the second time the Indian team has bagged gold at the International Olympiad for Informatics, the last time was in 2014.
  • India was represented by four students and they all won medals. Kshitij Sodani secured a gold medal, Paras Kasmalkar and Shreyan Ray got silver medals and Sushil Raaja U won a bronze medal. The contingent was led by Madhavan Mukund, director of Chennai Mathematical Institute and Jatin Yadav of IIT Delhi. The competition was held in Szeged, Hungary.

Gujarat High Court Observes Forcing Kids Below Three to Attend Pre-school is Illegal

  • Parents who force children below the age of three years to attend preschool are committing an illegal act, the Gujarat High Court said while dismissing a batch of pleas challenging the state government's decision to set six years as the minimum age limit for Class 1 admission in the academic year 2023-24.
  • Quoting Rule 8 of the RTE Rules, 2012, which deals with admission procedures in a preschool, the court said no preschool shall admit a child who has not completed three years of age as of June 1 of the year.
