Neeraj Sharma receives "Medal of Honour" at Consular Day 2024

  • The award was presented at the ITC Grand Chola by HCCD-India in Chennai, for his exemplary efforts in promoting bilateral relations between Palau and India.   The award was presented by Tamil Nadu Governor R. N. Ravi.   Established in 1995, HCCD-India aims to promote mutual understanding among Honorary Consular officers in India and abroad.

India's Chandrayaan-3 Mission Team Given 2024 John L. 'Jack' Swigert Jr. Award

  • Chandrayaan-3 was the first to land on the uncharted South Pole region of the Moon. In recognition of this groundbreaking accomplishment, the Chandrayaan-3 team has been honored with the prestigious 2024 John L. 'Jack' Swigert Jr. Award for Space Exploration.
  • The award, presented by the Space Foundation during the annual Space Symposium in Colorado, acknowledges the extraordinary achievements of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and the Chandrayaan-3 team in the realm of space exploration and discovery.
  • Chandrayaan-3, launched by ISRO in July 2023, comprised a lander named Vikram and a rover called Pragyan. On August 23, 2023, the mission made history when Vikram successfully touched down on the lunar surface at the South Pole, an area that had remained unexplored by previous missions.

  • The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO)'s Chandrayaan-3 mission team has been awarded the 2024 John L. "Jack" Swigert, Jr. Award for Space Exploration by the US-based Space Foundation. This prestigious award is given to recognize the remarkable achievements of a space agency, company, or consortium in the realm of space exploration and discovery.
  • The Chandrayaan-3 mission, launched by ISRO on July 14, 2023, was a groundbreaking achievement for India. The mission consisted of a lander named Vikram and a rover named Pragyan, and it successfully landed at the unexplored south pole of the moon on August 23, 2023. This made India the first country in the world to land a lunar module at the south pole of the moon.
  • The Space Foundation, in presenting the John L. "Jack" Swigert, Jr. Award for Space Exploration to the Chandrayaan-3 team, recognized the exceptional technical and engineering achievements of the mission. The Foundation highlighted the unquestioned leadership and ingenuity of the people of India in the global space ecosystem, showcasing their remarkable contribution to space exploration.
  • The John L. "Jack" Swigert, Jr. Award for Space Exploration was instituted by the Space Foundation in 2004, in memory of John L. "Jack" Swigert, Jr., who was part of NASA's Apollo 13 mission to the moon. The mission was aborted due to a leakage in the spacecraft's oxygen tank, but Swigert's quick thinking and problem-solving skills helped the crew safely return to Earth.

GAIL Wins 15th CIDC Vishwakarma Award for Barauni - Guwahati Pipeline

  • GAIL (India) Limited was honoured with the prestigious 15th CIDC Vishwakarma Award in the 'Achievement Award for Best Construction Projects' category for its remarkable accomplishment in the Barauni – Guwahati Natural Gas Pipeline project (BGPL). The project, an integral component of the Jagdishpur – Haldia & Bokaro – Dhamra Pipeline project, marked a significant milestone by connecting North-East India to the National Gas Grid for the first time.
  • The Barauni – Guwahati Natural Gas Pipeline project spans 718 km and serves as a pivotal conduit for delivering environmentally friendly natural gas to the entire North-East region through the Indradhanush Gas Grid Limited (IGGL). Notably, the project caters to prominent customers such as IOCL refineries at Guwahati and Bongaigaon, as well as nine Geographical Areas for City Gas Distribution across Bihar, West Bengal, and Assam.
  • The CIDC Vishwakarma Awards, inspired by the ethos of construction excellence embodied by Lord Vishwakarma, celebrate and incentivize individuals and organizations to elevate their performance and make significant contributions to the Indian construction industry's growth and development.

Hockey India Awards 2023

  • Hardik Singh and Salima Tete were named the Players of the Year for 2023 in the men's and women's categories, respectively, at the sixth annual Hockey India Awards given in 2024.
  • During the event, Hockey India announced the revival of the Hockey India League (HIL), which will return in January 2025 after a hiatus since 2017. The revived league will feature eight men's teams and six women's teams, with auctions likely to be held after the Paris Olympics.
  • The awards ceremony saw teams and individuals felicitated for their achievements in the past year (2023), with a total prize pool of Rs. 7.56 crore.
  • Interestingly, the 2016 Junior World Cup winning men's team was also honoured at the event, eight years after their triumph.
