Ratan Tata Receives Prestigious KISS Humanitarian Award 2021

Renowned industrialist and philanthropist Ratan Tata, Chairman Emeritus of the Tata Group, was honored with the esteemed KISS Humanitarian Award 2021 at a ceremony held at his Mumbai residence. The award, initiated in 2008 by Achyuta Samanta, recognises individuals and organisations epitomising humanitarian efforts globally.
The private ceremony, attended by Tata Group chairman N. Chandrasekaran and Grammy Award winner Ricky Kej, among others, was orchestrated due to Tata's health considerations. Founder of KIIT and KISS, Achyuta Samanta, presented the award to Tata, who graciously accepted it following a personal request from Samanta.

Novak Djokovic, Aitana Bonmati Win Top Honours at Laureus Awards

Tennis great Novak Djokovic won the Laureus World Sportsman of the Year honour for a record-extending 5th time after 2012, 2015, 2016 and 2019, while Spain's World Cup-winning football star Aitana Bonmati won the World Sportswoman of the Year award at a star-studded ceremony in Madrid, Spain.
Spain's FIFA World Cup-winning team were voted as the Laureus Team of the Year on a night when the biggest sports stars took centre stage in the prestigious awards ceremony.

Venkaiah Naidu, Mithun, Usha Uthup, others Conferred Padma Awards

Former Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu, founder of Sulabh International Bindeshwar Pathak and a host of other prominent persons were conferred with Padma Awards by President Droupadi Murmu at the Rashtrapati Bhavan.
Actor Mithun Chakraborty, singer Usha Uthup, former Uttar Pradesh Governor Ram Naik and industrialist Sitaram Jindal were conferred with the Padma Bhushan.
Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, among others, were present at the function.

Mohammed Salem Wins 2024 World Press Photo of the Year Award

Photographer Mohammed Salem won the prestigious 2024 World Press Photo of the Year award for his image of a Palestinian woman cradling the body of her five-year-old niece in the Gaza Strip.
The picture was taken in October 2023, at Nasser hospital in Khan Younis in southern Gaza, where families were searching for relatives killed during Israeli bombing of the Palestinian enclave.

Kaushik Rajashekara Honoured with International Fellowship by the Engineering Academy of Japan

Kaushik Rajashekara, a distinguished professor at the University of Houston's Cullen College of Engineering, was elected as an International Fellow of the prestigious Engineering Academy of Japan. This honour recognizes his outstanding contributions to the field of power conversion and the electrification of transportation.
Rajashekara stands among an elite group of fewer than 10 fellows from the United States, out of a distinguished group comprising 800 fellows and 15 international fellows. This prestigious recognition is a testament to his exceptional contributions and the impact of his work on a global scale.
For over three decades, Rajashekara has worked closely with Japanese students, engineers, and faculty members from various universities, fostering collaborations and knowledge exchange.
In 2022, Rajashekara received the prestigious Global Energy Prize, considered the most coveted prize in the field of international energy. He was one of only three people selected from a record 119 nominations from 43 countries, further solidifying his status as a visionary in the energy sector.

The Lata Deenanath Mangeshkar Award was instituted by the Deenanath Mangeshkar Smriti Pratishthan in 2022, in honour of the legendary Lata Mangeshkar, the revered "Swar Kokila" (Nightingale) of India. This prestigious award celebrates the enduring legacy of Lata Mangeshkar, who captivated audiences with her mesmerising vocal prowess and left an indelible mark on the world of Indian music.
