Dominica Awards PM Modi with Its Highest National Honour for Contributions during Covid

The Commonwealth of Dominica announced its highest national award, the Dominica Award of Honour, to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in recognition of his contributions to Dominica during the COVID-19 pandemic and his dedication to strengthening the partnership between India and Dominica.
The award will be presented to PM Modi by President Sylvanie Burton during the India-CARICOM Summit in Guyana. India-CARICOM Summit is a forum to discuss shared priorities and new avenues for cooperation between India and CARICOM member states.

British Writer Samantha Harvey Wins Booker Prize for Fiction with "Orbital"

British author Samantha Harvey won the prestigious Booker Prize for Fiction for her novel "Orbital," a thought-provoking and imaginative exploration set in the unique setting of the International Space Station (ISS). The novel, which Harvey refers to as a "space pastoral," delves into the fragility of Earth and the profound connection humans have with their planet, using the perspective of astronauts in orbit.
The Booker Prize, one of the most prestigious awards in the literary world, was awarded to Harvey with a £50,000 prize. This marks a significant achievement for Harvey, who is the first British writer to win the Booker since 2020.
The Booker Prize is a literary award presented annually for the best original novel written in English and published in the UK or Ireland.
The Booker Prize has been awarded since 1969.

World's Longest Detained Journalist Wins Rights Prize

A journalist detained in Eritrean prison without trial for 23 years won a Swedish human rights prize for his commitment to freedom of expression.
Dawit Isaak, who holds dual Eritrean-Swedish citizenship, was given the Edelstam Prize for his exceptional courage.
Dawit is one of the founders of Setit, Eritrea's first independent newspaper.
He was detained in 2001 after his paper published letters demanding democratic reforms.
He will be presented on November 19, in Stockholm.
Dawit's daughter, Betlehem Isaak will accept the Edelstam Prize, awarded for exceptional courage in defending human rights, on his behalf as he remains imprisoned in Eritrea.

Veteran Filmmaker Phillip Noyce Honoured with Satyajit Ray Lifetime Achievement Award

Veteran Australian filmmaker Phillip Noyce, renowned for his acclaimed works such as Clear and Present Danger, Salt, and Rabbit-Proof Fence, will be honoured with the prestigious Satyajit Ray Lifetime Achievement Award at the 55th International Film Festival of India (IFFI). The festival, which will be held in Goa from November 20-28, 2024, has Australia as its Country of Focus this year.
Philip Noyce's work has had a lasting impact on both mainstream and critical cinema, shaping suspense and action genres while contributing to cultural conversations through his films.
