Indian-Origin Novelist Meira Chand Receives Singapore's Highest Arts Award

  • Indian-origin writer Meira Chand was among the three Singaporeans conferred the Cultural Medallion, the city-state's most prestigious arts accolade, in recognition of their artistic excellence and contribution to enriching the country's arts and culture.
  • Meira Chand, fellow novelist Suchen Christine Lim and Malay dance veteran Osman Abdul Hamid received the award from President Tharman Shanmugaratnam at a ceremony held at the Istana.
  • Meira Chand is an award-winning novelist known for her depiction of multicultural societies. Her 'The Painted Cage' (1986) was longlisted for the prestigious Booker Prize.

President Draupadi Murmu Gives National Award to Narayan Seva Sansthan's President

  • Prashant Agrawal, President of Narayan Seva Sansthan, was honoured with the prestigious National Award for 'Best Personality- Empowerment of Differently-abled' by President Draupadi Murmu at a ceremony organised by the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities.
  • The event, held at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi, witnessed the presence of dignitaries including Virendra Kumar, Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment, along with Ramdas Athawale, Pratima Bhoumik, and A. Narayan Swami.
  • Recognised for his outstanding contributions, Prashant Agrawal has led initiatives in establishing residential schools, and vocational rehabilitation centres, and providing assistive devices for differently-abled individuals.
  • Agrawal dedicated the recognition to the beneficiaries of Narayan Seva Sansthan. The organisation, committed to serving humanity and disability causes since 1985.

India's President Presents National Awards 2023 for the Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities

India's Safeena Husain Wins Qatar WISE Prize 2023

  • Safeena Hussain, founder of 'Educate Girls,' become the first Indian woman to bag the WISE Prize worth 5 lakh USD for mobilising 14 lakh out of school girls in Indian villages to get back to mainstream education. The prize, awarded by the Qatar Foundation at the 11th Edition of the World Innovation Summit for Education (WISE) Summit in Doha, is one of the most prestigious awards in education.
  • Established in 2011 by Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, the WISE Prize for Education is the first distinction of its kind to recognise an individual or a team for an outstanding, world-class contribution to education.
  • Safeena is the second Indian to receive the award.
  • 'Pratham' co-founder Madhav Chavan was the recipient of the 2012 WISE Prize for providing quality education to millions of underserved children in India.
