Panchkula Girl Anupama No. 1 Shuttler in India

  • Panchkula shuttler Anupama Upadhyaya attained the top slot in the country in the latest women's singles rankings of the Badminton Association of India (BAI).
  • Anupama became the national badminton champion by winning the 75th Inter-State, Inter-Zonal and 84th Senior National Badminton Championships in Pune.
  • Anupama has achieved the feat scoring 1,892 points. Her nearest rival, Adita Rao from Gujarat, had 1,540 points, followed by Telangana's Shriyanshi Valishetty with 1,352 points.
  • In the Badminton World Federation (BWF) rankings, Anupama is ranked 71st with 17,750 points from nine tournaments.
  • Anupama had participated in her first-ever senior championship — India Open Super 500, New Delhi, in 2022.

Shotgun World Cup: Mairaj-Ganemat Pair Finishes 5th in Skeet Mixed Team Event

  • The Indian skeet mixed team pairing of Mairaj Ahmad Khan and Ganemat Sekhon finished fifth at the ISSF Shotgun World Cup.
  • The Indian duo shot 143 out of 150 in the 32-strong qualification field and missed the cut for the medal round matches by one point.
  • The American pair of Vincent Hancock and Kimberly Rhode won gold, after they beat French duo of Eric Delaunay and Lucie Anastassiou 6-0 in the gold medal match. They had also topped the qualification round with a score of 148.
  • Chilean duo of Hector Andres Flores Barahona and Francisca Crovetto Chadid shot 144 to edge out the Indians by one point to make the bronze play-off.

Irani Cup: Rest of India Retains Title

  • Rest of India's bowling unit performed like a well-oiled machine as the team thrashed Madhya Pradesh by 238 runs to retain the Irani Cup.
  • Chasing 437 for victory, Madhya Pradesh were bowled out for 198 in 58.4 overs as the match ended during the opening session of the fifth day.
  • MP lost wickets at regular intervals as the first-innings' centurion Yash Dubey got a lethal in-cutter from Mukesh and was cleaned up in the process. There was no let-up in intensity from the Rest of India bowlers.

Max Verstappen Wins Season-opening Bahrain Grand Prix 2023

  • Max Verstappen won the season-opening Bahrain Grand Prix from pole position, leading almost the entire race as he opened the defense of his back-to-back Formula One titles. It was the first time he had won in Bahrain and also the first time he had triumphed in a Formula One opener. Red Bull also clinched a dominant 1-2 with Sergio Perez finishing second while 41-year-old Fernando Alonso took a brilliant third place and claimed a 99th career podium on a stunning race debut for Aston Martin.

MI Defeat GG in WPL 2023 First Match

  • Mumbai Indians crushed Gujarat Giants by 143 runs to stamp their authority with an all-round show as the Women's Premier League got underway.
  • After posting a mammoth 207/5, powered by captain Harmanpreet Kaur's sensational 30-ball 65 laced with 14 boundaries, Mumbai Indians' bowlers led by Saika Ishaque (4/11) produced a superb show to restrict Gujarat Giants to just 64/9 in 15.1 overs and made a dream start to the competition.

Craig Fulton New Chief Coach of India Men's Hockey Team

  • Craig Fulton was appointed as the new chief coach of the Indian men's hockey team. Hockey India made the announcement ahead of the team's home matches in the FIH Hockey Pro League starting from March 10th.
  • The South African, with nearly 25 years of coaching experience succeeded former coach Graham Reid.

Mirabai Chanu Wins BBC Indian Sportswoman of the Year Award

  • Tokyo Olympic Games silver-medallist weightlifter Mirabai Chanu bagged the 2022 'BBC Indian Sportswoman of the Year' award after a public vote.
  • The weightlifter from Manipur became the first athlete to win the award twice in a row after bagging it in 2021 as well.
  • The other short-listed contenders for the award were wrestlers Vinesh Phogat and Sakshi Malik, boxer Nikhat Zareen and badminton player P. V. Sindhu.
  • Table tennis player Bhavina Patel won the 'BBC Para Sportswoman of the Year' award, a category introduced this year (in 2023).

Karnataka Beats Meghalaya to Clinch Santosh Trophy National Football Championship

  • Karnataka ended their 54-year wait to win the Santosh Trophy National Football Championship, beating Meghalaya 3-2 in the final at the King Fahd International Stadium in the Saudi Arabia capital, Riyadh.
  • Robin Yadav's stunning first-half free-kick was the highlight of the win for Karnataka, who won their first title after 1968-69 and fifth overall, counting their four earlier triumphs as Mysore, their previous name before 1973. They had last finished runners-up in 1975-76. For Meghalaya, it was their maiden entry in the final.
