Tim Paine Announces Retirement from First-Class Cricket

  • Former Australia test cricket captain Tim Paine announced his retirement following the conclusion of Tasmania's Sheffield Shield first-class match against Queensland.
  • Wicketkeeper Paine captained Australia in 23 tests between early 2018 and 2021, playing 35 tests overall. He became Australia's 46th test skipper after Steve Smith had his captaincy stripped in the wake of the ball-tampering scandal on Australia's 2018 tour of South Africa.
  • Paine stood down from the captaincy in late 2021 after it was revealed he had sent explicit text messages to a former Cricket Tasmania employee.
  • Paine, who debuted against Pakistan at Lord's in 2010, averaged 32.63 in test matches with a top score of 92 and made 157 dismissals behind the stumps. He also played 35 one-day internationals for Australia.

PSPB Men and Women Start Favourites in TT Nationals

  • Petroleum Sports Promotion Board (PSPB) will start favourites to retain the men's and women's team titles as well as singles crowns at the 84th Inter-State National Table Tennis Championships in Jammu.
  • Fortunately, or unfortunately, such has been the domination of the PSPB teams and its individual players over the years that it is almost impossible to breach their run.
  • PSPB men, who have dominated for a quarter of a century, would go for the 26th title, and it would be the same combination that achieved the feat in Shillong in 2023.

Rohan Bopanna-Matthew Ebden Clinch Men's Doubles Title at Indian Wells Masters

  • India's Rohan Bopanna and his Australian partner Matthew Ebden won the Indian Wells Masters men's doubles title, defeating World No.1 Wesley Koolhof and Neal Skupski 6-3, 2-6, 10-8 in the final.
  • The victory marks Bopanna and Ebden's first Masters 1000 title as a team, and their second in their first season as a pairing.
  • Indian veteran Bopanna, who turned 43 on March 4, 2023 became the oldest man to ever win a Masters 1000 doubles title, surpassing his former partner Daniel Nestor. He is also the first Indian man to claim the Indian Wells Masters doubles title since Leander Paes in 2007.

ICC Inks Deal with Willow TV to Broadcast in US and Canada

  • In a new four-year agreement, the International Cricket Council (ICC) teamed up with Times Internet in the US and Canada, making Willow TV, owned by Times Internet, the official home of ICC cricket in both nations until 2027.
  • As per ICC, the new deal continues the successful partnership between the ICC and Willow TV, which has been in place since 2016.
  • As per ICC, Willow TV has been delivering extensive coverage across platforms, bringing cricket to a growing number of fans across the US and Canada, home to an estimated 30 million cricket fans.

  • Equitas Small Finance Bank announced partnership with Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) as their 'Proud Banking Partner' for the 2023 season of T20 League.
  • This is to further add bank's brand ethos of being "The Progressive Bank behind Progressive Champions" and aligns with RCB's all-time motto of being the progressive players in the game.
  • The RCB team will don the Equitas Small Finance Bank logo on the lead trousers as part of the team's jersey. This partnership campaign is aimed to communicate that Equitas has been playing a progressive role in transforming the lives of individuals through their lending and social responsibilities of 'Beyond Banking'.

Rafael Nadal Signs up to Play at Monte Carlo Masters

  • The 22-time Grand Slam champion Rafael Nadal signed up to compete in the Monte Carlo Masters, starting from April 8, 2023.
  • Nadal was absent from the courts since his Australian Open second round loss to American Mackenzie McDonald, where he aggravated a hip injury.
  • Rafael Nadal was the first player to sign up. He wants to play in Monaco and is giving himself every chance to be able to participate in this tournament that he loves so much, and which he has won eleven times in singles, including a record eight consecutive titles between 2005 and 2012.
  • The Monte-Carlo Masters is an annual tennis tournament for male professional players held in Roquebrune-Cap-Martin, France. The event is part of the ATP Tour Masters 1000 on the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Tour. The tournament is played on clay courts and is held every year in the April–May period.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino Re-elected for another Term

  • Gianni Infantino was re-elected as FIFA president until 2027 by acclamation, after highlighting his strong financial performance as a reason for keeping a CEO in their position for life. The decision was made by the congress of 211 member federations, who have seen their annual funding from FIFA increase from $250,000 to $2 million since Infantino's first win in 2016. Following the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, FIFA now has $4 billion in reserves, and it conservatively predicts a record revenue of at least $11 billion from the 2026 men's World Cup, which will be hosted in North America.

David Warner to Lead Delhi Capitals in IPL 2023
