Jan Aushadhi Diwas on 7th March

  • The Jan Aushadhi Diwas is celebrated on March 7, 2022 by the Pharmaceuticals & Medical Devices Bureau of India (PMBI). The day is observed to spread awareness about the usages of generic medicines and the benefits of Jan Aushadhi Pariyojana. The theme of the Janaushadhi Diwas 2022 was "Jan Aushadhi-Jan Upyogi".
  • On this occasion, Doctors, Health Workers, Nurses, Pharmacists, and Jan Aushadhi Mitra will discuss the Jan Aushadhi Pariyojana. The government has set a target to increase the number of Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Kendras (PMBJKs) to 10,500 by March 2025.
  • Janaushadhi Kendras is the world's biggest retail pharma chain having around 6,200 outlets in 700 districts of the country. It also provides a good source of self-employment with sustainable and regular earnings. The first Jan Aushadhi Diwas was celebrated on 7th of March 2019.

CISF Observes its 53rd Raising Day

  • The 53rd Raising Day ceremony of Central Industrial Security Forces (CISF) was organised on March 06, 2022, in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh. Union Home Minister Amit Shah attended and addressed the Raising Day ceremony of CISF at Ghaziabad's Indirapuram. The CISF, which functions under the Union Home Ministry, is a central armed police force and among one of the six paramilitary forces of India. Over 30 lakh passengers in Delhi Metro and 10 lakh passengers in airports across the country pass through the security of CISF.
  • CISF was set up under an Act of the Parliament of India on 10th March 1969, to provide security cover to industrial units, government infrastructure projects and facilities and establishments located all over India.
  • Eventually, it was made an armed force of the Republic of India by another Act of Parliament passed on 15th June 1983.
  • CISF is one of six paramilitary forces in India and functions under the Ministry of Home Affairs. Its headquarters is in New Delhi.

Employee Appreciation Day

  • Employee Appreciation Day is an event, observed on the first Friday in March, meant for employers to give thanks or recognition to their employees. It was created by Dr. Bob Nelson (a founding member of Recognition Professionals International) in 1995, initially to celebrate the publication of his book 1,001 Ways to Reward Employees and to remind employers to thank their employees when they do good work.
  • Employee Appreciation Day is crucial for maintaining an engaging and happy environment at the workplace. When employers take decisive steps to ensure that employees are recognized for their work, it results in several benefits including a boost in morale and strengthens bonds between bosses and workers.

National Safety Day

  • India commemorates National Safety Day every year on March 4 with the goal of raising awareness and commitment to working safely. The National Safety Council established the holiday to raise public awareness of all safety principles, including road safety, workplace safety, human health safety, and environmental safety. The holiday is also intended to reaffirm employees' and the general public's commitment to working safely throughout the year.
  • In 1972, National Safety Day was commemorated for the first time on the National Safety Council's founding day.
  • Every year, this day is celebrated with a different theme. The theme for National Safety Day 2022 was 'Nurture young minds - Develop safety culture'.

World Hearing Day

  • March 3 is observed as World Hearing Day to raise awareness on preventing deafness and hearing loss. It is also observed to promote ear and hearing care across the world. The World Health Organisation (WHO) sets a theme and prepares materials like brochures, flyers, posters, banners and presentations to educate people about the day.
  • The WHO, on March 3, 2007, observed World Hearing Day for the first time. In 2016, WHO decided to declare this day as World Hearing Day. It was known as International Ear Care Day before that.
  • The theme set by WHO for World Hearing Day 2022 was "to hear for life, listen with care".

World Wildlife Day

  • World Wildlife Day, observed on March 3 every year, is an opportunity to celebrate beautiful varied forms of wild fauna. It is also observed to raise awareness to conserve them.
  • The UN General Assembly on December 20, 2013, during its 68th session, decided to declare March 3, the day of adoption of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Flora and Fauna, as World Wildlife Day. This day became one of the most important global annual events dedicated to wildlife.
  • The theme for World Wildlife Day 2022 was 'Recovering key species for ecosystem restoration'. This theme was chosen as a way to draw attention to the conservation status of some of the most critically endangered species of wild fauna and flora.

National Conclave on Social Enterprises for Garbage Free Cities

  • A national conclave on Social Enterprises for Garbage Free Cities: Encouraging Women Entrepreneurs in Waste management in Raipur was organized by the Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban 2.0 which falls under the ambit of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA), in collaboration with the Chhattisgarh government.
  • As part of the Mission's capacity-building initiatives, this event would serve as a platform for peer learning for Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) and States on various decentralised and centralised waste management practices.
  • The "National Capacity Building Framework for Garbage Free Cities" under SBM-Urban 2.0, was also be launched during this event. This framework would help build stakeholders' capabilities to strengthen the urban sanitation sector of the nation.
  • Representatives from 17 States and ULBs participated in this event.

Zero Discrimination Day

  • The Zero Discrimination Day is held every year on the 1st of March. The day aims to ensure right to equality, inclusion and protection of all people without any discrimination in their law and policies to live a full life with dignity regardless of any barriers. Zero Discrimination Day highlights how people can become informed about and promote inclusion, compassion, peace and, above all, a movement for change. Zero Discrimination Day is helping to create a global movement of solidarity to end all forms of discrimination.
  • Zero Discrimination Day was first celebrated on March 1, 2014, and was launched by UNAIDS Executive Director at Beijing after UNAIDS launched its Zero Discrimination Campaign on World AIDS Day in December 2013.
  • The theme of Zero Discrimination Day 2022 was "Remove Laws that Harm, Create Laws that Empower". The theme signifies the ardent need to fight and take action against the myriad discriminatory laws in multiple countries that result in people being treated differently. While some laws harm the sanctity of human rights, some seem to cripple the fundamental freedom in society.

World Civil Defence Day

  • Every year March 1 is celebrated as World Civil Defence Day around the globe. This day was declared as a global holiday by the International Civil Defence Organization (ICDO) in 1990 and honours the significance of Civil Defence and the personnel who have sacrificed their lives for it. The ICDO is an intergovernmental organisation that helps citizens develop and stay secure while also protecting infrastructure and the environment.
  • World Civil Defence Day was established by the International Civil Defence Organization. The International Civil Defence Organization, or ICDO, was created in 1931 by Surgeon-General George Saint-Paul who founded the Association of Geneva Zones, which later became the ICDO. Saint-Paul intended to build safe zones where residents may take refuge in times of war after witnessing the consequences of war on the populace.
  • Every year, the International Civil Defense Organization chooses a topic to drive World Civil Defense Day events. The theme for World Civil Defence Day 2022 was "Civil Defence and the First Aider in every Home."
