ICC Launches T20 World Cup Anthem

  • The International Cricket Council (ICC) launched the T20 World Cup anthem along with a film featuring 'avatars' of India captain Virat Kohli and West Indies skipper Kieron Pollard among others.
  • The tournament will begin on October 17 in Oman and UAE, with the final to be played in Dubai on November 14.
  • Composed by Bollywood music director Amit Trivedi, an animated film features young fans from all over the world engaged in T20I cricket and includes some of the sport's biggest superstars.

Lewis Hamilton Becomes First Driver to Seal 100 F1 Wins

  • Lewis Hamilton scripted history in Sochi as he became the first Formula 1 driver to win 100 Grands Prix. The Brit reigned supreme at the Russian Grand Prix which saw a dramatic finish in a rain-affected race.
  • With the historic victory, Lewis Hamilton also moved back to the top of the driver's championship, leading Red Bull's Max Verstappen by two points. With only 7 races to go, the battle for the driver's championship is heating up between Verstappen and the Mercedes great.

Moeen Ali Announces Retirement from Test Cricket

  • England men's all-rounder Moeen Ali decided to call time on his Test match career.
  • Ali made his Test debut back in 2014 and went on to represent England in 64 Test matches. He took 195 Test wickets including 5 five-wicket hauls and scored five Test match centuries during his career.

Sydney Sixers Sign Shafali Verma and Radha Yadav

  • Sydney Sixers confirmed the signing of Shafali Verma and Radha Yadav for the upcoming Women's Big Bash League (WBBL).
  • Verma, who in 2019 became India's youngest ever women's T20 international, is widely considered the best batting talent in the world and currently sits atop the ICC Women's T20I Player Rankings.
  • Verma is expected to form a lethal combination with Alyssa Healy, Ellyse Perry and Ash Gardner at the top of the order for the Sixers, giving the team the most exciting top four in WBBL history.

Jyothi Wins Silver at World Archery Championship

  • Jyothi Surekha Vennam bagged a silver medal in the women's compound event at the ongoing World Archery Championship in Yankton.
  • World number three Sara Lopez of Colombia defeated Jyothi 146-144 in the summit clash.
  • The Indian archer had defeated Andrea Becerra of Mexico 148-146 to enter her third finals of the tournament.
  • Earlier, the Indian women's and mixed compound teams managed to win silver medals at the ongoing Archery World Championships in Yankton.
  • India women's team comprising Jyothi, Muskan Kirar and Priya Gurjar suffered a defeat at the hands of Colombia's Sara Lopez, Alejandra Usquiano and Nora Valdez. Colombia defeated India 229-224.

Sania Wins in Women's Double of Ostrava Open

  • Indian tennis player Sania Mirza won her first title of the season as she and her Chinese partner Shuai Zhang beat the pair of Kaitlyn Christian and Erin Routliffe in the women's doubles final of the Ostrava Open.
  • The second seeded Indo-Chinese duo defeated the third seeded pair of American Christian and New Zealander Routliffe 6-3 6-2 in the summit clash.

Abhishek Verma Elected to World Archery's Athletes Committee

  • India's three-time World Cup gold medal-winning compound archer Abhishek Verma has been elected to World Archery's athletes' committee for a four-year term.
  • The 32-year-old was elected alongside reigning women's world champion Natalia Avdeeva of Russia after participants voted during the ongoing World Championships.
  • Verma, a former Asian Games gold-medallist, was the only male candidate but had to earn a majority while Avdeeva and Janine Meissner of Germany were the female candidates. The Russian received 69 per cent of the votes.
  • Verma, an Arjuna awardee, has won gold medals in the World Cups in Poland (2015) and Paris earlier this year. He also bagged the yellow metal in the team event in World Cup in Shanghai in 2018.

Odisha to Host Hockey Junior World Cup

  • Odisha will host the Men's Hockey Junior World Cup at the Kalinga Stadium from November 24 to December 5.
  • At a function held Patnaik said that Hockey India had approached the Odisha government to support them for the Men's Junior World Cup to be held in two months time.
  • Patnaik also unveiled the logo and the trophy for the event.
