Talismanic captain Sunil Chhetri equalled the legendary Pele with his 77th international goal as India beat Nepal 1-0 and saved his side from the verge of elimination in the SAFF Championships.
Chhetri, playing in his 123rd match for India, struck a late goal to place himself on an even keel with the Brazillian great (77 goals from 92 matches). He is now in joint third with UAE's Ali Mabkhout (77) in the list of highest scorers among active footballers, behind Cristiano Ronaldo (112) and Lionel Messi (79).
ISSF Junior Shooting Worlds: India Finishes on Top
India won a whopping 43 medals, including 17 gold, to finish on top of the pecking order in the just-concluded ISSF Junior World Championship in Lima.
The country's shooters won all the available 12 medals on the final competition day of the top junior tournament at the Las Palmas Shooting range in the Peruvian capital of Lima.
India concluded the meet with 16 silver and 10 bronze medals, in addition to the 17 gold.

French University Confers Harbhajan Singh with Honorary PhD in Sports
French University Ecole Superieure Robert de Sorbon conferred former India spinner Harbhajan Singh with an honorary PhD in Sports during a convocation ceremony.
Harbhajan couldn't attend the ceremony in person as he is currently in a bio-secure environment as part of Kolkata Knight Riders' campaign in the IPL.
The university awards honorary doctorate degree to eminent personalities in various walks of life, which also includes achievements in the sporting arena.
Harbhajan's name was recommended to the French University by noted industrialist Dr Harcharan Singh Ranauta, vice-president of Indian Federation of United Nations Associations (IFUNA).

Germany Unveils Euro 2024 Championship Logo
Germany unveiled the logo for soccer's 2024 European Championship during a ceremony with a light show in the stadium that will hold the final. The logo features an outline of the Henri Delaunay Cup, the bulbous tournament trophy , set on a coloured oval outline that resembles the Olympiastadion's roof. It features colours from the flags of UEFA's 55 member nations, set in 24 slices around the trophy to represent the 24 teams that will ultimately qualify for the tournament in Germany.
Logos for each of the 10 host cities; Berlin, Cologne, Dortmund, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, Gelsenkirchen, Hamburg, Leipzig, Munich and Stuttgart were also presented. The tournament is due to be played in June and July 2024 with the match schedule to be confirmed next year.
Germany hosted the World Cup in 2006, with the final held in the refurbished Olympiastadion. The stadium was originally built for the 1936 Olympic Games hosted by Nazi Germany. West Germany also hosted the World Cup in 1974 and the European Championship in 1988.
Anshu Malik Wins Historic Silver at World Wrestling
India will have to wait for its first woman world champion in wrestling as Anshu Malik settled for a silver medal after losing her 57 kg final to 2016 Olympic champion Helen Lousie Maroulis but Sarita Mor grabbed her maiden medal at the big stage by winning the 59 kg bronze, in Oslo, Norway.

Anshu Malik First Indian Woman Wrestler to Reach World Championship Final
Anshu Malik created history by becoming the first Indian woman wrestler to reach the World Championship final when she outclassed junior European champion Solomiia Vynnyk but Sarita Mor lost her semi-final and will fight for a bronze in Oslo.
Anshu the reigning Asian champion won by technical superiority in the 57 kg category to go into history books.
Only four Indian women wrestlers have won medals at the Worlds and all of them, Geeta Phogat (2012), Babita Phogat (2012), Pooja Dhanda (2018) and Vinesh Phogat (2019), have clinched bronze.
Indians Dominate FIH Annual Awards
India swept the International Hockey Federation's (FIH) annual awards with five players and head coaches of both the men's and women's teams claiming the top honours across different categories.
After a historic bronze medal-winning feat for the Indian men's team as well as the outstanding performance of the women's team, which reached the last four in Tokyo, Indian athletes and coaches dominated the FIH Hockey Stars Awards 2020-21.
Gurjit Kaur (Women) and Harmanpreet Singh (Men) fetched 'Player of teh Year' honour in their respective categories.

Junior Shooting World Championships
Young Indian shooter Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar saved his best for the final as he broke the junior world record to win the gold medal in the 50 metres rifle 3 positions event at the ISSF junior world championships in Lima, Peru.
Tomar, who represented India in the Tokyo Olympics, broke the finals world record with a score of 463.4 points. The 20-year-old won the gold by a big margin of 6.9 points. France's Lucas Kryzs tallied 456.5 to win silver, while USA's Gavin Barnick won bronze with a score of 446.6.
Hockey India Withdraws from 2022 Birmingham CWG
India pulled out of next year's Birmingham Commonwealth Games' hockey competition, citing COVID-19 concerns and UK's discriminatory quarantine rules for travellers from the country.
Hockey India President Gyanandro Ningombam communicated the federation's decision to Indian Olympic Association (IOA) President Narinder Batra.
This move comes a day after England pulled out of the FIH Men's Junior World Cup to be held in Bhubaneswar next month, citing a number of COVID-related concerns and taking "note" of the Indian government's mandatory 10-day quarantine protocol for all UK nationals.
