'Our Goal for All' Unveiled as Tagline for 2022 AFC Women's Asian Cup

  • The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) and the Local Organising Committee (LOC) unveiled 'Our Goal for All' as the official tagline of the 2022 Women's Asian Cup to be held in India from January 20 to February 6. The tagline was unveiled on occasion of the 100 days countdown for the tournament in which Continent's top 12 teams will contend for the prestigious title next year across Navi Mumbai, Mumbai and Pune. "India 2022 promises to be another spectacular celebration of the women's game throughout the Continent.
  • 'Our Goal for All', demonstrates the unity and the collective effort of the Asian football family to create a brighter future for women's football by staging a world-class spectacle that will leave a legacy in the women's game for many years to come.

MS Dhoni Becomes First in World Cricket to Captain in 300 T20 Games

  • Chennai Super Kings skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni became the first player in world cricket to captain a team in 300 T20 games across various competitions during his side's IPL summit clash against Kolkata Kight Riders.
  • The 40-year-old former India captain, playing his 10th IPL final (ninth for CSK as captain), has led the 'Yellow Brigade' in 214 games across 12 editions that they have taken part out of the 14 IPL seasons.
  • He has also led Rising Pune Supergiants during one IPL season apart from leading India in six T20 World Cups.

Rahul Dravid to be Team India's New Head Coach after T20 World Cup

  • In what comes as the biggest positive for Indian cricket in recent times, former India skipper Rahul Dravid has agreed to take over as the head coach of the national team. The development took place on the sidelines of the final of the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League.
  • The other positions will now be looked into while Vikram stays as the batting coach. The Indian team is in a state of transition with youngsters coming in and they have all worked with Dravid and it will be easier for Indian cricket to continue on its path to become world beaters on the pitch.
  • Current coach Ravi Shastri's contract ends with the T20 World Cup that gets underway. The BCCI is hosting the tournament in Oman and UAE. India will open its T20 World Cup campaign against Pakistan on October 24 in Dubai. After the upcoming T20 World Cup, Virat Kohli will also be stepping down as the side's captain in the shortest format.

Ireland's Amy Hunter Becomes Youngest Batter to hit ODI Hundred

  • Ireland's Amy Hunter hit 121 not out on her 16th birthday against Zimbabwe, making her the youngest batter to score an ODI century in either men's or women's cricket. The Belfast batter – who was playing in only her fourth ODI – broke the record previously held by India's Mithali Raj, scorer of a century against Ireland in 1999 when she was 16 years 205 days.

Chennai Super Kings Wins Fourth IPL Title

  • Chennai Super Kings clinched their fourth Indian Premier League title after beating Kolkata Knight Riders by 27 runs in the summit clash at Dubai International Stadium.
  • Faf du Plessis hit a magnificent 86 off 59 balls, laced with seven fours and three sixes, to help CSK post 192 for 3 after they were invited to bat.
  • Chasing an imposing target of 193, KKR could manage 165 for 9 in their 20 overs with Shubman Gill and Venkatesh Iyer hitting 51 and 50, respectively.

Divya Deshmukh Becomes Woman Grand Master

  • Child prodigy Divya Deshmukh became India's latest Woman Grand Master (WGM) at the First Saturday Grandmaster Chess tournament in Budapest, Hungary.
  • She scored five points from nine rounds and came up with a rating performance 2452 to secure her third and final WGM-norm.
  • She also secured her second IM-norm and is now a norm away from becoming an International Master.
  • The Nagpur teenager had earned the first two WGM norms at the Velammal International women's round-robin tournament and the Aeroflot Open 2019.

BCCI Unveils Official Team India Jersey for T20 World Cup

  • The BCCI unveiled a brand new jersey which the Indian cricket team will be sporting at the T20 World Cup. The new kit is called the 'Billion Cheers Jersey' which replaces the 1992 World Cup pattern-like jersey the team had been donning since late 2020.
  • The jersey has been launched by MPL Sports, the official kit sponsors of the Indian cricket team.

Abhishek, Surekha to Lead India's Charge at Asian championships

  • World Championship silver medallists Abhishek Verma and V. Jyothi Surekha were named in India's squad for the upcoming Asian Championship in Dhaka.
  • Abhishek, Rishabh Yadav, Mohit and Aman Saini form the compound men's team while the women's team features Surekha, Muskan Kirar, Priya Gurjar and Parneet Kaur as the Archery Association of India (AAI) announced the team.
  • The 22nd edition of the continental tournament will be held in Dhaka from November 13 to 19. Following the World Championship in the USA in September, Abhishek and Surekha shot perfect scores of 150 in their respective gold medal matches to emerge as individual champions at the 40th NTPC National championships in Jamshedpur.

Germany First Team to Qualify for 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar

  • Germany became the first team to qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar following the side's thumping win over North Macedonia in UEFA Group J.
  • The FIFA men's World Cup will see 32 nations compete against each other for the prize. The tournament will take place from November 21 to December 18 next year.

FIFA unveils "Ibha" Mascot of India's 2022 U-17 Women's World Cup

  • World football body, FIFA unveiled the official mascot of the U-17 Women's World Cup India 2022 "Ibha" an Asiatic lioness representing women power. The tournament will be held in India from October 11-30 next year. The announcement coincided with the International Day of the Girl Child.
  • According to a release issued by the global body, Ibha aims to inspire women and girls across India and around the world to realise their potential. Ibha is a strong, playful and charming Asiatic lioness that aims to inspire and encourage women and girls by using teamwork, resilience, kindness and empowering others.

Sunil Chhetri Equals Pele's Record

  • Talismanic captain Sunil Chhetri equalled the legendary Pele with his 77th international goal as India beat Nepal 1-0 and saved his side from the verge of elimination in the SAFF Championships.
  • Chhetri, playing in his 123rd match for India, struck a late goal to place himself on an even keel with the Brazillian great (77 goals from 92 matches). He is now in joint third with UAE's Ali Mabkhout (77) in the list of highest scorers among active footballers, behind Cristiano Ronaldo (112) and Lionel Messi (79).

ISSF Junior Shooting Worlds: India Finishes on Top

  • India won a whopping 43 medals, including 17 gold, to finish on top of the pecking order in the just-concluded ISSF Junior World Championship in Lima.
  • The country's shooters won all the available 12 medals on the final competition day of the top junior tournament at the Las Palmas Shooting range in the Peruvian capital of Lima.
  • India concluded the meet with 16 silver and 10 bronze medals, in addition to the 17 gold.
