Para-athlete Vinod Kumar Banned for Intentional Misrepresentation at Tokyo
Board of Appeal of Classification (BAC) banned para-athlete, discus thrower, Vinod Kumar for two years (Until 2023) for 'intentional misrepresentation'. He intentionally misrepresented his abilities when he presented for classification at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games.
He won the bronze medal in the discus throw event (F52 category) at the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics. At the Tokyo games, he gave a best throw of 19.91m to finish third behind Piotr Kosewicz (20.02m) of Poland and Velimir Sandor (19.98m) of Croatia.
Coco Gauff Enters French Open Title Clash, Becomes Youngest Grand Slam Finalist in 18 Years
Coco Gauff will face world number one Iga Swiatek for the French Open title after the teenager eased into her maiden Grand Slam final with a straight-sets victory over Martina Trevisan. The 18-year-old American claimed a 6-3, 6-1 win in a nervous match which saw both players featuring in a major semi-final for the first time. Gauff is the youngest Grand Slam finalist since Maria Sharapova won Wimbledon in 2004.
The players made 37 unforced errors between them in a poor first set before Gauff upped her game in the second.
The 18th seed will be a heavy underdog against Swiatek, who is on a 34-match winning streak, in final match.

India Wins First ever Medal at the IBSA Judo Grand Prix
In Nur Sultan, Kazakhstan, India earned its first ever medal at the IBSA Judo Grand Prix. The Indian Blind and Para Judo Association's Judoka Kapil Parmar deserves heartfelt praising for bringing medals to the country. It's worth noting that 18 of the 21 countries that competed won medals. Several countries, including Iraq, Switzerland, and India, earned their first medals in the IBSA Grand Prix as a result of these.
This Kazakh city hosted the IBSA Grand Prix, and it was here that we saw this universality between countries come to life, as well as the challenge of earning any medal.
After two days of thrilling competition in Nur-Sultan, the 2022 IBSA Judo Grand Prix Kazakhstan came to a close. More than a hundred judokas from 21 countries competed for gold, and Turkey, Iran, Uzbekistan, Romania, Japan, Brazil, and Kazakhstan all ascended to the top of the podiums on the opening day.
Asia Cup Hockey: India Beat Japan 1-0 to Clinch Bronze Medal
The young Indian men's hockey team produced a spirited performance to beat Japan 1-0 and clinch the bronze medal in the Asia Cup. After missing out of a place in the title clash on goal difference following an exciting 4-4 draw with South Korea, defending champions India came out with purpose and scored a field goal through Raj Kumar Pal as early as in the seventh minute of the game and then defended in numbers to seal the deal.
The Japanese put relentless pressure on the Indian citadel in the final two quarters in search of the equaliser but the Birendra-Lakra side stood like a rock to deny their opponents.

French Open 2022: Rohan Bopanna Books First Grand Slam Semi-final Berth since 2015
India's Rohan Bopanna reached his first Grand Slam semifinal in seven years after he and his Dutch partner Matwe Middelkoop rallied to beat Lloyd Glasspool and Henri Heliovaara in the men's doubles quarterfinals of the French Open in Paris. The Indo-Dutch pair eked out a 4-6 6-4 7-6 (3) win over the British-Finnish combination in a hard-fought contest. The Bopanna and Middelkoop squandered the opening set but dished out a superb fightback to win the next two as emerge victories. In the decider, the Indo-Dutch pair showed tremendous mental fortitude to fightback from 3-5 down to take the match to a super tiebreak.
Bopanna last reached the semifinals of a tennis Major at the 2015 Wimbledon Championships when he had teamed up with Romania's Florin Mergea and lost in a gruelling five-setter to Jean-Julien Rojer and Horia Tecau.
ISSF World Cup: Women on Target, Win Gold
India opened its account at ISSF World Cup with the trio of Elavenil Valarivan, Ramita and Shreya Agrawal claiming the gold medal in the women's 10m air rifle team competition in Baku, Azerbaijan. The Indian trio outplayed Denmark's Anna Nielsen, Emma Koch and Rikke Maeng Ibsen 17-5 in the gold medal contest. Poland won bronze in the event. Former world No. 1 Valarivan, Ramita and Agrawal had reached the gold medal round after two rounds of qualification
In the men's air rifle team competition, Rudrankksh Patil, Paarth Makhija and Dhanush Srikanth fell short in their bronze medal match against Croatia.
Elliott to Sell Italy's AC Milan Football Club to RedBird
Redbird Capital Partners reached a final agreement to buy Italy's AC Milan, the seven-time European football champion once owned by former Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi. Redbird is set to announce the purchase of the club from U.S. investment fund Elliott Management Corp. The transaction may value AC Milan at about 1.2 billion euros ($1.3 billion).
New York-based Redbird, founded by Gerald Cardinale, manages about $6 billion, according to its website. The firm is a shareholder in Fenway Sports Group Holdings LLC, the owner of English Premier League football club Liverpool FC and the Boston Red Sox US baseball team. It also holds a controlling stake in French football team Toulouse.

Amit Shah Lays Foundation Stone for New International Sports Complex in Ahmedabad
Laying the foundation stone for an international-standard sports complex in Naranpura of Ahmedabad Sunday, Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah said that India's next Olympics gold medallist will emerge from Naranpura sports complex.
Spread across 18 acres, Naranpura Sports Complex will be built at the cost of Rs. 631.77 crore. It will host a total of 18 sports and have an indoor sports arena, community sports arena and an aquatic stadium. Shah announced a stipulated time of 30 months before the sports complex is ready for inauguration.
He said that Sardar Patel Sports Complex near Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium at Motera and other such facilities will also help organize international sports events like Olympics in Ahmedabad.
Union Minister Anurag Thakur Inaugurates Takshashila Sports Complex at Viman Nagar in Pune
Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Anurag Thakur inaugurated the Takshashila Sports Complex built by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) at Viman Nagar. Underlining the importance of creating sports infrastructure at grassroot level, Thakur appealed to the corporates in Pune to come forward and fund sports facilities through their CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) funds.
Thakur stated that the Government attaches great importance to sports and the Centre has been working very closely with states to build grassroot level infrastructure across the country. Budget for sports, which earlier used to be around Rs. 1,200 crores was increased to Rs. 3,000 crore so that there is more fund to spend on sportspersons.
Indian GM Praggnanandhaa Loses to China's Ding Liren in Chessable Masters Final
Young Indian Grandmaster R. Praggnanandhaa went down fighting to world No.2 Ding Liren in the tie-break of the Meltwater Champions Chess Tour Chessable Masters 2022 online tournament final. The 16-year-old from Chennai fought back to win the second set after having lost the opener. But then lost the two-game blitz tie-breaker. Liren used his experience to trump Praggnanandhaa in the second of the tie-break games. After the first blitz game ended in stalemate, the Chinese player won the next in 49 moves to dash the Indian teenager's hopes.
The Indian GM had defeated the highly-rated Dutchman Anish Giri in the semifinal to become the first Indian player to reach the final of a Meltwater Champions Chess Tour event. He had beaten world No.1 Magnus Carlsen for a second time during the preliminary phase in which he finished fourth and got past Wei Yi of China in the quarterfinals.
Supernovas Win 3rd Women's T20 Challenge Title
Supernovas won the 3rd Women's T20 Challenge 2022 with a four-run victory over Velocity in the title clash. West Indies T20 specialist Deandra Dottin shined with both bat and ball as she powered Supernovas to a record third Women's T20 Challenge title triumph with a four-run victory over Velocity. The Women's T20 Challenge is an Indian women's cricket 20-20 tournament organised by BCCI.
Supernovas had won the first two editions of the Women's T20 Challenge in 2018 and 2019 before losing to Trailblazers in the final in 2020. The tournament was not held in 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Madrid became European champion for a record-extending 14th time — double the number of any other team on the continent — after beating Liverpool 1-0 in a final that started 37 minutes late because of disturbing scenes outside the Stade de France. It evoked memories of the violence that marred the European Championship final at Wembley Stadium in 2021.
Brazil winger Vinícius Júnior was the match-winner, applying a close-range finish in the 59th minute from Federico Valverde's drive across the face of goal, while goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois took just as many plaudits by making breathtaking saves by Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah.
It gave Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti a fourth European Cup title, the most ever for a manager in the competition's history, and completed the Champions League-La Liga double for a Spanish giant for whom winning titles is ingrained in its culture.

Tokyo Bronze Medallist, Lovlina Borgohain was elected as IBA's Athletes' Committee Chair. International Boxing Association (IBA) announced that Indian boxer and Tokyo Olympics Bronze medallist Lovlina Borgohain received the highest number of votes during the election held at the 2022 Women's World Championships and thus has been elected as the chair and a voting member on the Board of Directors for the IBA's Athletes' Committee.
Further, Indian boxer Shiva Thapa was elected as a member of the IBA Athletes Committee following the election held during the 2021 IBA Men's World Championships. The duo, who are both under the Sports Authority of India's (SAI) Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS) have confirmed that they have accepted their roles and look forward to representing India and other boxers at the Board of Directors' meeting.
Red Bull's Perez Wins Monaco GP
Sergio Perez won a rain-delayed, crash-halted and ultimately nail-biting Monaco Grand Prix for Red Bull to make his dream come true as another evaporated for Ferrari's Charles Leclerc. The Mexican's teammate Max Verstappen finished third to stretch his Formula One championship lead over Leclerc, who was fourth, to nine points after seven of 22 races. Ferrari's Carlos Sainz was second, for the second year in succession.
The race was twice red-flagged and shortened from 77 scheduled laps to 64 after running out of time. Perez was only the third driver to win a race this season, with Verstappen winning four of the previous six and Leclerc the other two.
