Praggnanandhaa, Nandhidhaa Cap Stellar Run by Winning Titles

  • Top-seeded Indian Grandmaster R. Praggnanandhaa and compatriot P.V. Nandhidhaa won the titles in the open and women's sections, respectively, at the Asian Continental Chess Championship.
  • Praggnanandhaa drew with compatriot B. Adhiban in a 63-move game in the ninth and final round to emerge victorious with seven points.
  • The triumph also earned Praggnanandhaa a ticket to the next FIDE World Cup.
  • In the women's event, Nandhidhaa drew her ninth-round match against Divya Deshmukh to finish with 7.5 points. The 26-year old remained unbeaten throughout and won six games.

Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy: HP Beat Punjab in Semis, Enter Finals

  • Himachal Pradesh stormed into the finals of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2022 defeating Punjab by 13 runs in the first semi-finals of the tournament at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Led by Rishi Dhawan, who bagged three wickets, Himachal Pradesh continued their dream run in white-ball cricket. It may be recalled they are Vijay Hazare Trophy defending champions.

Virat Kohli Becomes All-time Leading Run-scorer in T20 World Cup History

  • Virat Kohli overtook former Sri Lanka skipper Mahela Jayawardene to become the all-time leading run-scorer in T20 World Cup history.
  • Kohli, who boasts of an average of more than 80 and a strike rate of over 130 in T20 World Cups, reached the milestone during India's Super 12 match against Bangladesh.
  • Kohli playing his fifth T20 World Cup went past Jayawardene's 1016 runs in the seventh over of the Indian innings.
  • He is also the highest run-getter in all T20 internationals ahead of compatriot Rohit Sharma (3811), New Zealand's Martin Guptill (3531) and Pakistan skipper Babar Azam (3239).

Reliance, MFA Partner to Promote Sports in Mizoram

  • In an effort towards the promotion of football at the grassroots level, the Mizoram Football Foundation (MFA) tied up with Reliance Foundation, the corporate social responsibility arm of Reliance Industries Limited.
  • The Reliance Foundation and MFA joined hands to expand, transform and create a complete hyper-local pathway and decentralised approach to grassroot football in Mizoram through Reliance Foundation Young Champs (RFYC) Naupang League.
  • RFYC is an academy to train young footballers. The Naupang League aims to develop local ecosystems and enable aspiring and talented footballers as young as 5-year-olds, both boys and girls, to gain competitive and practice exposure.
  • The league will be hosted in four locations in Mizoram. The MFA and district football associations will host the leagues in Lunglei and Kolasib while RFYC will operate two leagues in Aizawl and Champhai.

Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty Win French Open Men's Doubles Title

  • Indian pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty clinched the French Open Super 750 title with a straight-game victory over Chinese Taipei's Lu Ching Yao and Yang Po Han in the men's doubles final.
  • Satwik and Chirag, who were the runners-up in the 2019 edition, continued their dream run this year, having won the Indian Open super 500, Commonwealth Games gold, Thomas Cup and World Championships bronze.
  • For the Indian duo, the French Open marks their third world tour title after the 2019 Thailand Open and the 2022 Indian Open. Satwik and Chirag also became the first Indian pair to win a Super 750 tournament.
