The India Open which is officially known as Yonex- Sunrise India Open 2023 began in New Delhi. The tournament is being held at the KD Jadhav Indoor Hall till the 22nd of January 2023. The tournament, being held in India since 2008, this is the first time India Open is being held in the super 750 status category.
The tournament will see some of the top players from 29 countries, and a total of 97 players will compete in various categories – Men's singles, Women's singles, Men's Doubles, Women's Doubles, and Mixed Doubles.
Viacom18 Bags Women's IPL Five-year Media Rights
Reliance-backed Viacom18 secured the Women's Indian Premier League (WIPL) media rights for five years (2023-27).
Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary Jay Shah said that Viacom18 had committed Rs. 951 crore for five years, translating into a per-match value of Rs 7.09 crore.
Disney Star was the other broadcaster to place a bid.
However, Disney Star's bid amount could not be ascertained immediately. Sony-Zee opted to stay out of the auction.
Indian Pair of Yuki-Saketh Wins Bangkok Open Challenger Title
The top-seeded Indian team of Yuki Bhambri and Saketh Myneni won the Bangkok Open title, their sixth together on the ATP Challenger Tour, as they beat Christopher Rungkat and Akira Santillan.
Playing their seventh final together, the Indians beat the Indonesian-Australian combo 2-6 7-6(7) 14-12 in an exciting and close final.
Yuki and Saketh, who joined forces last year, made six Challenger finals and won five of them between April and October 2022.
They will next compete in the Australian Open -- the season's first Grand Slam -- where they were given a wild card entry.

India Breaks Record for Largest Win Margin by Runs
Team India broke the record for largest victory (by runs) in ODIs as they defeated Sri Lanka by 317 runs in the third and final match of the series in Thiruvananthapuram. India broke New Zealand's record (by 290 runs) to script history at the Greenfield Stadium. Opting to bat, India posted a mammoth score of 390/5 in fifty overs; the Sri Lanka run-chase ended in merely 22 overs, as the side could only reach 73.
Virat Kohli produced an incredible performance in the third and final ODI of the series, as he smashed an unbeaten 166 off just 110 deliveries, hitting 13 fours and eight sixes. Young Indian opener Shubman Gill had also smashed a brilliant 116 off just 97 deliveries, as he forged a brilliant 131-run partnership with Kohli.
Malaysia Open: Axelsen Defends Crown
Tokyo Olympics champion Viktor Axelsen retained his Malaysia Open Super 1000 men's singles crown, while reigning world champion Akane Yamaguchi of Japan clinched the women's singles trophy.
It was Axelsen's record ninth consecutive final in the Super 1000 tournaments and eighth in the top-tier level series. The Dane defended his title by beating Naraoka Kodai of Japan 21-6 21-15 in the final at the Axiata Arena.
FIFA Charges Argentina over World Cup Final Celebrations
FIFA opened a disciplinary case against the Argentine Football Association for alleged offensive player misconduct and violations of fair play at the World Cup final.
FIFA cited its media and marketing regulations for prosecuting the case, which appears to relate to a boisterous celebration by players running through the interview zone after the game on December 18.
Argentina beat France in a penalty shootout after a thrilling 3-3 draw at Lusail Stadium in Qatar.
About three hours later, players led by captain Lionel Messi ran and sang through the official interview area and damaged flimsy partition walls without stopping to speak to international broadcast and print media.

Men's Hockey World Cup, 2023 got underway evening with a spectacular opening ceremony at the picturesque Barabati Stadium in Cuttack that was witnessed by thousands of hockey lovers in attendance from across the country and abroad.
Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, International Hockey Federation president Tayyab Ikram and Hockey India chairman Dilip Tirkey were present at the glittering ceremony and welcomed members of all the 16 participating teams.

Kerala Breaks Guinness Record for Goals Scored
Kerala kicked itself into the Guinness Book of World Records by taking 4,500 penalty kicks in 12 hours. The Department of Sports and Youth Affairs made it possible for the football-crazy state to set the Guinness record at a Dream Goal penalty shootout organised at Payyanad Football Stadium at Manjeri.
The excitement was palpable at the stadium throughout the day as hundreds of footballers, students, teachers and football lovers queued up to take the penalty kicks. Many missed, but some netted with impeccable perfection.
The organisers arranged students from different schools and colleges across Malappuram district and they were set in batches of 50. Each batch was given 50 balls. Under the surveillance of the Guinness officials, the participants stood in queue after registering themselves by producing their Aadhaar cards.

Swastika Ghosh Qualifies for World Table Tennis Championship
Swastika Ghosh became the fourth Indian to qualify for the World Table Tennis Championship after beating Chinese Taipei's Liu Hsing-Yin to be among the 28 women singles qualifiers from the Asian Continental Stage of 2023 WTTC final in Doha.
Swastika joins Sreeja Akula, Manika Batra and Sharath Kamal, who made it by finishing among the top-16 from the continent.
