New Zealand to Introduce Debbie H. Medal to Honour Women Cricketers
New Zealand Cricket announced the introduction of the Debbie H. Medal, a new award that will recognize the achievements of women cricketers in the country. The medal will be presented annually to the player who has made the most outstanding contribution to women's cricket in New Zealand.
The award is named after Debbie Hockley, one of New Zealand's greatest female cricketers and a pioneer for the women's game. Hockley holds the record for the most runs in Women's One Day Internationals (ODIs) for New Zealand and was inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame in 2019.
The Debbie H. Medal will be awarded at the end of the women's cricket season and is open to all female players, including those who play domestically and internationally. The medal is expected to bring more attention to the women's game and celebrate the contributions of female cricketers in New Zealand.
Chief Coach Graham Reid Steps down Following India's Dismal World Cup Campaign
Another big tournament ended with a familiar sense of disappointment for the Indian hockey fans.
India's ninth-place finish, just over a year after winning the Olympics bronze medal in Tokyo, at the World Cup came as a big shock, even for coach Graham Reid. The Australian was did not have words when asked to explain the reasons for India's defeat to New Zealand in the crossover match.
Reid's resignation, submitted means another coach will leave without finishing his contract. The 58-year-old was given a contract extension till next year's Olympics, but he quit a day after the World Cup. Reid was appointed India coach in 2019.
Along with Reid, team's analytical coach Greg Clark and scientific advisor Mitchell David Pemberton have also resigned.
The Indian team has had seven different coaches in the last 10 years.
Khelo India Youth Games to Commence in Madhya Pradesh
The fifth edition of the Khelo India Youth Games (KIYG) was inaugurated by Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan in the presence of Union Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs Anurag Singh Thakur at Tatya Tope Nagar Stadium.
The KYIG 2022 will be held at 23 venues in eight cities of the state in which nearly 6,000 athletes will take part in 27 different sports.
For the first time sports like kayaking, canoeing, canoe slalom and fencing are part of the Khelo India Youth Games.

Hockey World Cup 2023: Germany Beat Belgium in the Final
Germany beat Belgium 5-4 in the penalty shootout and won the FIH Men's Hockey World Cup 2023 at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar, India. The scores were level at the end of regulation time at 3-3. This is Germany's third Hockey World Cup title after it in 2002 and 2006. With this, Germany levelled with Netherlands and Australia. Germany also became the fourth team to register a come-from-behind win in a World Cup final. From a 2-0 deficit to a 3-2 to lead and ultimately a shootout, they eventually became champions.
England's Ben Stokes and Nat Sciver Win ICC Annual Awards
England Test captain Ben Stokes and England all-rounder Nat Sciver were among the winners in the International Cricket Council's annual awards.
All-rounder Stokes was named Men's Test Cricketer of the Year while Sciver won the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy for ICC Women's Cricketer of the Year.
Sciver was also named Women's one-day international (ODI) Cricketer of the Year.

Novak Djokovic defeated Stefanos Tsitsipas in the final of men's singles match of the Australian Open 2023. Djokovic won his 10th Australian Open and 22nd Grand Slam. He levelled Rafael Nadal with his 22nd Grand Slam title. In the women's singles category, Aryna Sabalenka defeated Elena Rybakina in the final and win the women's singles tennis title at the 2023 Australian Open.
The 2023 Australian Open was a Grand Slam level tennis tournament held at Melbourne Park, from 16–29 January 2023. It was the 111th edition of the Australian Open, the 55th in the Open Era, and the first major of the year. There is a total prize pot of AUD $76.5 million (around £43.3m) for the Australian Open 2023.
India Wind First Women's U-19 T20 World Cup
India won its maiden ICC title in women's cricket as a bunch of sprightly and talented teenagers lifted the inaugural U-19 World Cup with an emphatic seven-wicket victory over England.
The Shafali Verma-led India U-19 squad managed to do what their seniors could not do by clearing the final hurdle in a global event.

First Ever White Card Shown in a Football Match
Most football fans must be aware of the red and yellow cards in football. But history was scripted in Portugal when a white card was shown for the first time in a women's cup quarter-final match between Benfica and Sporting Lisbon.
The card was initiated by Portugal to try and improve ethical value in the sport. It is in contrast with yellow and red cards which are used to discipline players for misconduct. The exact purpose and consequence of the card are yet to be announced.
During the match, a fan fell ill in the stands. The medical teams from both the teams rushed to the spot and the referee Catarina Campos showed the white card to them. It received a positive reception from the crowd at the Estadio da Luz, with many cheering and applauding the decision.
The card was shown as an appreciation to the medical teams for their spirit.
ICC Announces All-female Panel of Match Officials for Women's T20 World Cup
In a significant first for world cricket, the ICC named an all-female panel of match officials, including the Indian trio of G. S. Lakshmi, Vrinda Rathi and Janani Narayanan, for the upcoming Women's T20 World Cup in South Africa.
Three match referees and 10 umpires make up the 13-woman team in what is a landmark moment and is in part of the ICC's strategic ambition of advancing the involvement and visibility of women in cricket. The panel includes seven first timers, and the announcement came after a constant rise in the number of women officiating in global tournaments.

SuryakumarYadav Becomes First Indian Men's player to Clinch T20I Player of the Year Award
India's star batsman SuryakumarYadavwas selected as the best T20 International Cricketer of the Year by the ICC. SuryakumarYadav has had a stellar year with the bat, where he broke several records and set records. SuryakumarYadav became the second batsman to score 1000 or more runs in a calendar year. He ended the year 2022 as the highest run-scorer. Surya scored 1164 runs at an excellent strike rate of 187.43.
The ICC said that the winner of the ICC Men's T20I Cricketer of the Year had one of the best years for any player in the history of the format.
Women's IPL Auction Attracts Rs. 4,670 crore in Winning Bids
The auction for five teams in the women's Indian Premier League, now called the Women's Premier League (WPL), concluded, with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) walking home with nearly Rs. 4,670 crore, beating estimates of Rs. 4,000 crore. The auction of teams was for a 10-year period (2023-32).
The Adani Group entered the Indian cricketing arena with the highest bid of Rs. 1,289 crore for the Ahmedabad franchise, followed by the Reliance-backed Indiawin Sports, which bought the Mumbai franchise for Rs. 912.99 crore. The other three winners were Royal Challengers Sports for Bengaluru at Rs. 901 crore, JSW GMR Cricket for Delhi at Rs. 810 crore, and Capri Global for Lucknow at Rs. 757 crore.

India Becomes No.1 ODI Team
India became the No. 1 team in the ICC ODI rankings after defeating New Zealand by 90 runs in Indore, thereby clean sweeping the Kiwis 3-0 in the series. The Men in Blue had won the first match by 12 runs in Hyderabad and the second match by 8 wickets in Raipur. This was India's second consecutive clean sweep, having beaten Sri Lanka last week.
