Cape Verde Becomes First Country to Name Stadium after Pele
African Portuguese speaking country Cape Verde became the first country responding to the call made by FIFA chief Gianni Infantino to name a stadium after Pele.
Following Pele's death in December, Infantino paid tribute to the three-time World Cup winner at his memorial service in Brazil and proposed at the memorial service that each nation should name one stadium after Pele.
Cape Verde Prime Minister Ulisses Correia e Silva confirmed their Estadio Nacional de Cabo Verde would be renamed after Pele. "The 15,000-seat stadium, which hosts football matches for the Cape Verde national team, will be called 'Pele Stadium' in honour of the former New York Cosmos player.

Jaydev Unadkat became the first-ever bowler to clinch a hat-trick in the first over of a Ranji Trophy match. The bowler did so in Saurashtra's Elite, Group B match against Delhi at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot.
After opting to bat first, Delhi was off to a nightmarish start. Dhruv Shorey, Vaibhav Rawal and captain Yash Dhull were dismissed on the third, fourth and fifth delivery of the first over for a duck. Delhi was reduced to 0/3 in the first five balls of the match.
Unadkat continued his ruthless bowling spell in his next over, dismissing Jonty Sidhu (4), Lalit Yadav (0) and wicketkeeper-batter Lakshay Thareja (1). This reduced Delhi to an alarming 10/7.
Delhi was bundled out for 133 runs. Unadkat finished with remarkable figures of 8/39 in 12 overs.
World Boxing Council to Create Transgender Category
The World Boxing Council, one of the four governing bodies for the sport, will introduce a transgender category from this year, its president Mauricio Sulaiman said.
The WBC is going to create a league and a tournament but title belts may not be on the line. WBC wants to eliminate a scenario where a 'man fights a woman'.
A 'at birth rule' will be used, which means a transgender boxer who is registered as male at birth will be allowed to fight others who have also been registered as male at birth and those registered as female at birth will be allowed to fight others who have been registered as female at birth.
Koustav Chatterjee became India's 78th Grandmaster in MPL 59th National Senior Chess Championship in New Delhi.
The 19-year-old drew his game against GM Mitrabha Guha. Koustav cruised through the game. Mitrabha could have gone for a win, however, Koustav mixed up the order in the endgame and he managed to draw it to secure his final GM norm.
Koustav hailing from Kolkata became West Bengal's tenth Grandmaster.
Vaidehi Chaudhari Wins ITF Women's Tournament Singles in Gwalior
Second seed Vaidehi Chaudhari beat the top seed Ksenia Laskutova 7-5, 6-4 and clinched the title in the $15,000 ITF women's tennis tournament at the City Centre Tennis Complex in Gwalior.
It was Vaidehi's maiden singles title in the professional circuit. She had won her maiden doubles title with Laskutova as her partner.

Koneru Humpy Wins Silver at World Blitz Chess Championship
Former world rapid champion Koneru Humpy won India's first-ever silver medal in the FIDE World Blitz Chess Championships in Almaty, Kazakhstan.
Humpy defeated China's Zhongyi Tan to win Silver in the 17th and final round. Fourth seeded Humpy scored an impressive 12.5 points, just half a point behind the gold medal winner Bibisara Balabayeva of Kazakhastan.

Hockey Haryana's women's team won the Khelo India Youth Games 2022 Women's Under 18 Qualifiers after defeating Madhya Pradesh 2-0 in the final at Bhubaneswar.
In the final match, Pooja and Gurmail Kaur scored a goal each for Haryana to end the contest in their favour.
Odisha stepped up to claim third place after beating Hockey Jharkhand 2-1 in the 3rd and 4th place encounter.
Sanjna Horo scored for Jharkhand but Odisha came back with goals from Puja Sahoo and Sunelita Toppo to complete a thrilling comeback.

Centre Recognises E-Sports as Part of 'Multi-Sport' Event
The Government of India gave E-sports a major boost by integrating it with mainline sports disciplines in the country.
The President of India, Droupadi Murmu, in exercise of the powers "conferred by clause (3) of article 77 of the Constitution" amended the rules governing E-sports and asked the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) and the Sports Ministry to include "E-sports as part of multi-sports events".
There had been a growing demand for E-sports to be included in the curriculum of multi-discipline events after it was included in the 2018 Jakarta Asian Games as a demonstration sport, meaning medals won in the sport were not counted in the official overall medals tally.
