Guru Nanak Dev University Becomes only University in India to Get A Grade by NAAC

The Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar got A grade by scoring 3.85 points in National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) grading, thereby becoming the only University in India to get this score. GNDU is the only State/Central/Private University in India to get this score. Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) is the only other educational institution with a higher grade of 3.89 in the country.
This assessment is based on set of seven criteria under different key aspects based on the functioning and organizational focus. These criteria include Curricular aspects, Teaching-learning and evaluation, Research, innovations and extension; Infrastructure and Learning resources; Student Support and Progression; Governance, Leadership and Management; Institutional Values and Best Practices.
The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) was established in 1994 as an autonomous institution of the University Grants Commission (UGC) with its Headquarter in Bengaluru. The NAAC conducts assessment and accreditation of Higher Educational Institutions such as colleges, universities or other recognised institutions to derive an understanding of the 'Quality Status' of the institution.

UP Govt. to Award Class 10, Class 12 Toppers with Cash Prizes

The UP government decided to award Class 10 and Class 12 toppers in the state with cash awards. Rs 4.73 crore was earmarked for the same. The toppers in the high school or intermediate board exams can belong to CBSE, CISCE, UP board, or Sanskrit Education Board.
A total of 148 CBSE board students would be awarded for grabbing a top spot at the state level, while 1549 UP board toppers will be awarded with Rs. 2100 each.

NCERT Textbooks to Bring Balanced Perspective of all Genders

According to a parliamentary committee, the NCERT will work towards bringing a balanced perspective of all genders in the new National Curriculum Framework (NCF) and in its textbooks.
The panel had earlier recommended that to address the under-representation of women and girls in school textbooks or them being depicted only in traditional roles, a thorough analysis from the view point of gender bias and stereotypes should be undertaken by the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT).
It had also said efforts should be made to make content portrayal and visual depiction gender inclusive.
The committee was informed that the NCERT took note of all the issues raised by the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Education, Women, Children, Youth and Sports and will contribute adequately to bringing in a balanced perspective of all the gender in the NCF, syllabus and all the textbooks which will be developed as a follow-up of NCFs. The process of development of NCFs has already been initiated by the NCERT.

Srivardhini Jha Appointed as NSRCEL Chief at IIM Bangalore

The Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Bangalore appointed Srivardhini Jha as the chairperson of NSRCEL, the start-up incubator at IIM Bangalore.
Prof. Jha is Associate Professor of Entrepreneurship at IIM Bangalore. She has been working as a researcher and teacher interested in innovation and entrepreneurship. Her research interests include innovation strategy of Multinational Enterprises (MNEs) in emerging markets, innovation in the Indian start-up ecosystem and social entrepreneurship.
Before joining IIM Bangalore, she worked as a researcher with the McGill Centre for the Convergence of Health and Economics. She has a PhD in Corporate Strategy and Policy from IIM Bangalore, an MS in Management Science and Engineering from Stanford University and a BTech in Information Science and Engineering from Bangalore University.

China to Open School in Dr. Kotnis' Name in Solapur

Paying homage to the legendary Indian physician, Dr. Dwarkanath Shantaram Kotnis, the Consul General of China announced that it will establish a school in his memory. The school will be opened in Dr. Kotnis' home district, Solapur. Dr. Kotnis travelled to China in 1938 and provided medical aid in the battle zone during the second Sino-Japanese War.
The announcement was made by Chinese Consul General Kong Xianhua in Mumbai. Kong also said good ties between New Delhi and Beijing are promoted by people.

MP Govt. to Cover Fees for Engineering, Medical, Law Education for Students Scoring above 75% in ...

The Madhya Pradesh government stated that it will cover the costs of engineering, medical and law students who received more than 75% marks in their Class 12 board exams.
MP CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan already awards laptops to students scoring above 75% in their board exams. Now, he declared during a speech that the state would cover the costs of attending law school, IIT, engineering school, and medical school.
The CM also announced that the government of Madhya Pradesh also agreed to build playgrounds in 110 villages.

IIT Madras Gets $1 Million from Google to Develop 'Responsible AI Centre'

The Indian Institute of Technology Madras received a grant of $1 million to set up a new multidisciplinary centre for research and development on responsible artificial intelligence.
The Centre for Responsible AI is under the aegis of the Robert Bosch Centre for Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (RBC-DSAI). Head of the centre B. Ravindran said that the grant would help to bring in people from various disciplines to find solutions to ethical and technological concerns while using AI.
With the government proposing to use AI for its services there are concerns that must be addressed before it can be implemented. The concerns range from ethical and fair use of AI, framing policies and ensuring that the technology is fool-proof.
This centre is a first of its kind initiative in India that aims to bring together technologists, sociologists, policy and legal experts from academia, industry and the government to study all aspects of this domain called Responsible AI.

Tamil Nadu Govt. Launches 'Friends of Library' Programme to Promote Reading

The 'Friends of Library' programme, under which books would be directly given to those who are unable to access state-run libraries, was introduced by the Tamil Nadu government.
The project will be helpful to people with disabilities, seniors, kids, and hospital in-patients, among others, who are unable to visit a library.
Such individuals will receive the books from the libraries from volunteers. The recipients must register with the relevant library.
The programme will involve 2,500 libraries in its initial phase, including 31 district libraries.

AAP Govt. Launches 'Delhi Robotics League' for Govt. School Students

The Delhi government launched the 'Delhi Robotics League' for school students of the national capital.
The programme was launched at Dr. B.R. Ambedkar School of Specialised Excellence in the presence of the Director-Education, Himanshu Gupta.
This league is a unique, first of its kind tournament organised at the school-level across the country. Through this spectacular initiative, the Delhi government endeavours to generate curiosity for the field of robotics amongst children studying in its schools, to find and groom talent for the future of this field.
The students of Class 9 and Class 10 will get a chance to showcase and enhance their skills in robotics.

Ashwini Vaishnaw Appointed as First Chancellor of Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya, Vadodara

Ashwini Vaishnaw, Minister of Railways, Communications, Electronics & Information Technology, Govt. of India, was appointed as the Chancellor of Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya, Vadodara, by President Smt. Draupadi Murmu. It is noteworthy to mention that Ashwini Vaishnaw is the first Chancellor of Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya.
As per the Central University Act, 2009, Dr. Manoj Chaudhary will hold the position of Vice Chancellor of Gati Shakti University for five years from the date he assumes office.
