Delhi Girl Bags Two Awards at Prestigious International Competition for 'Wearable Art'

Jayati Saraf, a 2021 graduating student of fashion design at Pearl Academy, New Delhi, made her institute and the country proud by bagging two awards at the prestigious World of Wearable Art (WOW) Awards 2022 held in Wellington, New Zealand.
WOW is a coveted stage for cutting-edge designers across the world creating wearable art alongside students and first-time entrants.
Inspired by the honeycomb lattice and paper structures commonly used as Diwali decorations, Jayati laser-cut a fabric made from iridescent foil to create her award-winning design 'Neoru'. Not only did she bag the international award for Asian designs, but she was also declared the overall winner for all international designs.

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Announces Fund for Higher Education of Orphan Children

In a New Year gift to about 6,000 orphan children in Himachal Pradesh, the state government announced establishing a Rs. 101-crore fund -- Mukhya Mantri Sukhashraya Sahayata Kosh -- for their higher education and day-to-day needs. Making the announcement, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said that all the 40 Congress MLAs have decided to give Rs. 1 lakh each from their first salary towards this fund and more funds would be collected from industries under the corporate social responsibility.

Centre Signs Pact with IVBP for Commercial Production of 'Lumpi-ProVac'

The government signed a pact with Pune-based Institute of Veterinary Biological Products (IVBP) for commercial production of indigenously developed vaccine 'Lumpi-ProVac' for the control of lumpy skin disease in cattle.
The vaccine has been developed by Haryana-based National Centre for Veterinary Type Culture and ICAR-National Research Centre on Equines in collaboration with Uttar Pradesh-based ICAR-Indian Veterinary Research Institute.
Agrinnovate India Ltd., the commercial arm of Department of Agriculture Research and Education under the aegis of Union Agriculture Ministry, has granted 'non-exclusive rights' for commercial production of 'Lumpi-ProVac' to IVPB for ten years.
India discovered Lumpy Skin Disease in 2019, with reporting the first case in Odisha. This was followed by its spread throughout the country's various states. It led to death of a large number of cattle, especially from the north-west part of the country.

Scholarships by Indian Govt. for Students Planning to Study Abroad

For those who wish to study abroad, the Ministry of Education provides financial aid to Indian students for higher studies. To apply for these scholarships, aspirants can check the Ministry's official website — education.gov.in.
The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment provides several scholarship programmes such as the National Overseas Scholarship Scheme for Scheduled Castes, denotified, nomadic and semi nomadic tribes, landless agricultural labourers and traditional artisans, Scheduled Castes and traditional artisan category.
Scholarships are provided to candidates of the above-mentioned categories to help them obtain higher education viz., Masters' degree or PhD courses by studying abroad with the aim that this will help them improve their economic and social status.

Canada, Japan Home to World's most Educated Population in 2022

Canada, Japan, and Luxembourg are the world's top three most educated countries in the world, as per Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) tertiary education report 2022.
Data revealed by the OECD showed that between 2000 and 2021, the share of 25–34-year-olds with tertiary education increased by 20 percentage points, from 27 per cent to 48 per cent.
The 10 most educated populations in the world are: Canada 59.96 per cent, Japan 52.68 per cent, Luxembourg 51.31 per cent, South Korea (50.71 per cent), Israel (50.12 per cent), United States (50.06 per cent), Ireland (49.94 per cent), United Kingdom (49.39 per cent), Australia (49.34 per cent) and Finland (47.87 per cent).

IIT Guwahati, Bombay, European Partners Building Sensor to Check Indian Water Quality

Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati and Bombay in collaboration with European universities are working towards building a low-cost technology to check the quality of potable and other water in India.
The LOTUS Indo-European project, an initiative of the Department of Science and Technology and the European Commission, is aimed at providing solutions for issues related to the quality of water supplied across Indian households and elsewhere.
A core element of the LOTUS project is a novel water quality sensor that builds on previous work done at Ecole Polytechnique, Paris, France.
The sensor was further developed during the project by researchers at Université Gustave Eiffel in collaboration with IIT Guwahati and the SME EGM, Sophia Antipolis, France.
"The LOTUS sensor developed at IIT Guwahati is being designed to address sensing needs and quality control aspects across different use case scenarios encompassing safe drinking water, agricultural water and wastewater.

UP Govt. Inaugurated 'E-Sushrut' HMIS in UP Medical Colleges

The Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brijesh Pathak and Minister of State for Medical Education Mayankeshwar Sharan Singh inaugurated the 'E-Sushrut' Hospital Management Information System (HMIS) in 22 state medical colleges. The initiative was launched by the state medical education department in collaboration with the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (CDAC).
The software will help in the patient registration, admission, discharge, ambulance, food, medicines, and make available the details of doctors online. Through this system the availability of doctors in the hospital can also be easily ascertained and patients will be able to pay the fee through online and net banking. Hospital management information system has been implemented in Gorakhpur, Jhansi, Kanpur, Prayagraj, Agra, Meerut, King George Medical University, Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh University of Medical Science Saifai, GIMS Greater Noida, Lohia Institute, Sanjay Gandhi PGI, and Mirzapur Medical College.

IOCL Embarks on TB Elimination Project in UP, Chhattisgarh

The Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) as part of its corporate social responsibility with the Central TB Division (CTD) under the Ministry of Health, and the states of Uttar Pradesh and Chhattisgarh to undertake intensified TB elimination project.
Uttar Pradesh and Chhattisgarh share the highest burden of TB cases among large states in India.
The MoU was signed in presence of Union Minister of Health Mansukh Mandaviya and Union Minister of Petroleum & Natural Gas and Housing & Urban Affairs Hardeep Singh Puri.

Dharmadam First Complete Library Constituency in India

Dharmadam, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan's constituency achieved the position of complete library constituency in India, the first in India.
As per Vijayan, out of the total 138 wards in the constituency, there were no libraries in 63 wards. Dharmadam reached the achievement with the opening of libraries in these wards too.
Kerala which was the first state to achieve 100% literacy status in India is also the only state in India that has a library in every village.
Puthuvayil Narayana Panicker of Kerala is also known as the Father of the Library Movement in India. He started Granthashala Sangam with about 50 small libraries in 1945 in Kerala which grew into a large network of thousands of libraries.

IIM-Bangalore Re-appoints Devi Shetty as Chairman of Board of Governors

The Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore (IIM-B) appointed Devi Prasad Shetty as its new chairman of the Board of Governors. Shetty was appointed for the second time.
This decision was taken by the Board of Governors of the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore at a special meeting held upon the recommendation of the search-cum-selection committee. Devi Prasad Shetty, Chairman and Senior Consultant Cardiac Surgeon, Narayana Group of Hospitals, was elected for a second term of four years.

IIT Ropar Partners with Start-up GUVI for Excellence in E-learning Services

Indian Institute of Technology Ropar partnered with IIT Madras and IIM Ahmedabad-incubated edtech Start-up GUVI for new initiatives to drive excellence in e-learning services. The GUVI will collaborate on research to upgrade its placement-oriented career program - 'ZEN Class' and Mentorship, by meeting the standards of excellence in e-learning services through IIT Ropar.
GUVI is an IIT Madras and IIM Ahmedabad incubated edtech startup that empowers career aspirants for IT and software jobs through self-paced learning tech courses, ZEN class career programs, and other vernacular edtech services. GUVI, which offers an online platform for students to learn in their mother tongues, offers specialised information technology courses to upskill students and make them 'job ready' online.
