Tamil Nadu Govt. Launches 'Friends of Library' Programme to Promote Reading

The 'Friends of Library' programme, under which books would be directly given to those who are unable to access state-run libraries, was introduced by the Tamil Nadu government.
The project will be helpful to people with disabilities, seniors, kids, and hospital in-patients, among others, who are unable to visit a library.
Such individuals will receive the books from the libraries from volunteers. The recipients must register with the relevant library.
The programme will involve 2,500 libraries in its initial phase, including 31 district libraries.

AAP Govt. Launches 'Delhi Robotics League' for Govt. School Students

The Delhi government launched the 'Delhi Robotics League' for school students of the national capital.
The programme was launched at Dr. B.R. Ambedkar School of Specialised Excellence in the presence of the Director-Education, Himanshu Gupta.
This league is a unique, first of its kind tournament organised at the school-level across the country. Through this spectacular initiative, the Delhi government endeavours to generate curiosity for the field of robotics amongst children studying in its schools, to find and groom talent for the future of this field.
The students of Class 9 and Class 10 will get a chance to showcase and enhance their skills in robotics.

Ashwini Vaishnaw Appointed as First Chancellor of Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya, Vadodara

Ashwini Vaishnaw, Minister of Railways, Communications, Electronics & Information Technology, Govt. of India, was appointed as the Chancellor of Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya, Vadodara, by President Smt. Draupadi Murmu. It is noteworthy to mention that Ashwini Vaishnaw is the first Chancellor of Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya.
As per the Central University Act, 2009, Dr. Manoj Chaudhary will hold the position of Vice Chancellor of Gati Shakti University for five years from the date he assumes office.

Harvard University Appoints First Black President, Claudine Gay

Harvard University named Claudine Gay, a dean of the Faculty of Arts and Science, as its new president, the first African American to hold the post at the prestigious university.
Gay is just the second woman to be elected to head the school in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
Gay will take over as the university's 30th president on July 1, 2023.
Gay took the helm of Harvard's Faculty of Arts and Sciences in 2018, steering it through the difficult period of the Covid-19 pandemic.

NASSCOM Foundation Launches 'Aspirational Districts Programme'

NASSCOM Foundation announced the launch of its "Aspirational Districts Programme" with the objective of digitally enabling and skilling more than 3.5 million lives by March 2024, thus empowering the marginalised in remote and backward sectors of India.
The event was graced by the presence of Rakesh Ranjan, Mission Director - Aspirational Districts Programme, NITI Aayog who emphasised how the programme is a promising step towards accelerating the country's progress in meeting the Sustainable Development Goals.

IIT Ropar, Army Training Command sign MoU to set up Centre of Excellence

Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Ropar and the Army Training Command (ARTRAC) of the Indian Army signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for setting up a centre of excellence for studies and applied research in defence and security at the premier institute.
The MoU was signed by Rajeev Ahuja, director, IIT Ropar and Lt Gen SS Mahal, General Officer Commanding –in-Chief of the ARTRAC.
IIT Ropar will also curate training programmes as exchange of information on educational programmes for security practitioners of the armed forces, Central Armed Police Forces, intelligence agencies and state police forces run by it as part of its on-campus and off-campus programmes on research and innovation.

BTech Third most Employable Degree; MBA, BCom Set to Become most Popular Courses

BCom and MBA courses are set to become the most popular courses in 2023, with the most employable talent at 60.62 per cent and 60.1 per cent respectively, according to the Wheebox India Skills Report 2023. In addition to this, BE/ BTech domain candidates are the third most employable, in the domain-wise employability category, with employability being 57.44 per cent.
According to the report, India will be hiring most in the automotive, engineering and internet business. Companies across India show a hiring intent of 36.08 per cent for the demand forecast of 2023.
When it comes to the skills market, according to the study, the demand for skilled labour is being driven by the BFSI, pharmaceutical, e-commerce, and IT/ ITES sectors. Freshmen hiring in these fields is projected to increase by 20 per cent in 2023 compared to 2022.
