Govt Notifies BS-VI Emission Norms for Quadricycles

  • The government has notified BS-VI emission norms for quadricycles, paving the way for higher production of the new category of vehicle that was introduced less than two years ago.
  • The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has issued notification regarding the emission norms for L7 (quadricycle) category for BS-VI.
  • These norms are applicable from the date of notification. This notification completes the process of BS-VI for all category vehicles in India.
  • The emission norms are on the lines of the European Union's World Motorcycle Test Cycle (WMTC).

Andhra Pradesh Launches Mega Restart Package for MSMEs

  • As a lockdown exit plan, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy announced a mega boost for MSMEs with a Rs 1,110 crore restart package.
  • The government will be immediately releasing Rs 450 crore as the first installment which would benefit nearly 98,000 units. These units employ more than 10 lakh people who were facing hardships due to the lockdown.

"Hunar Haat" to Resume From September 2020 With the Theme of "Local to Global"

  • The union ministry of minority affairs will restart the Hunar Haat or crafts fair for artisans and craftsperson from September, 2020 focusing on the theme local to global.
  • The crafts fairs have been put on hold in the wake of the corona pandemic.
  • The Haats have provided employment to more than 5 lakh artisans, craftsmen, and culinary experts and offer a market and opportunity to master artisans and craftsmen from remote areas.

GoI Launched Five Key Initiatives to Conserve Biodiversity

  • Government of India launched five key initiatives towards conservation of biodiversity during the occasion of International Day for Biological Diversity 2020.
  • The initiatives were launched by the Union Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change Prakash Javadekar. 
  • The five initiatives are:
  • One of the initiatives is the Biodiversity Samrakshan Internship Programme. It was launched by the National Biodiversity Authority (NBA) and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). The programme proposes to engage 20 students with postgraduate degrees for a period of one year through an open, transparent, online competitive process.
  • The World Wildlife Fund Model Conference of Parties (COP), including the younger generation, was launched. It will engage in imprinting humanity towards biodiversity.
  • UNEP Campaign on Illegal Trafficking of Endangered Species: Not all Animals Migrate by Choice initiative was launched.
  • The Wildlife Crime Control Bureau campaign called Not All Animals Migrate by Choice was launched.
  • A Webinar series titled "Biodiversity Conservation and Biological Diversity Act, 2002" was launched.

Madhya Pradesh CM Inaugurated 'Everybody will Get Employment' Scheme

  • In Madhya Pradesh, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan inaugurated the 'Everybody will get employment' scheme through video conferencing. 
  • Under this scheme, MNREGA job cards will be distributed to the labourers.
  • As per the official information,19 lakh 92 thousand labourers are working in 22 thousand 695 gram Panchayats in the state.
  • From April 1, 2020 more than 35 lakh 45 thousand labourers have been provided employment under MNREGA during Corona crisis. In this 42.2 percent women have been given employment.

J&K Starts an Initiative SUKOON

  • In order to spread awareness about psychological impact of lockdown and measures to be adopted to overcome them, Department of Information and Public Relations, J&K has started an initiative 'SUKOON' - COVID-19 Beat the Stress".
  • The programme will be telecast on Doordarshan Kashir Channel every Tuesday at 9.00 PM during which psychiatrists, eminent doctors and scientists will share their knowledge on psychological health and how to keep the mind anxiety free and the measures which people can adopt to keep stress level under control.
  • The aim is to ensure that people stay mentally fit and cope with the fears related to COVID-19 with a sound mind.

Centre Launches Scheme to Solarise Entire Konark Temple, Konark Town

  • The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy said the central government has launched a scheme for solarisation of Konark Sun Temple and Konark town in Odisha.
  • The Government of India has launched scheme for 100 per cent solarisation of Konark sun temple and Konark town.
  • The scheme envisages a 10-megawatt (MW) grid-connected solar project and various solar off-grid applications such as solar trees and solar drinking water kiosks.
  • The MNRE has taken up the complete solarisation of Konark Sun Temple and Konark town in Odisha.

''Tatpar'' Scheme in Ranchi to Transport Migrant Workers

  • Over 140 migrant workers were sent to their native places on buses, a day after the ''Tatpar'' programme was launched by the Ranchi district administration to ease their tiresome journey on foot.
  • Under the programme, officials collect information about those walking on national highways or on any other road to provide them transport facilities.
  • Nodal Officer Sanjay Kumar made rounds on the Ring Road on the outskirts of the city and spotted the migrant workers, brought them to the Khadgada bus stand from where they were sent home.
  • They were given masks and food packets.
  • The administration also launched a helpline -- 1950 -- for the migrant workers to facilitate arranging of buses.

Cabinet Approves Rs 3 lakh cr Emergency Credit Line for MSME; Loans at 9.25% Rate

  • The Union Cabinet approved additional funding of up to Rs 3 lakh crore at a concessional rate of 9.25 per cent through the Emergency Credit Line Guarantee Scheme (ECLGS) for the MSME sector hit hard by the coronavirus crisis.
  • Under the scheme, 100 per cent guarantee coverage will be provided by National Credit Guarantee Trustee Company (NCGTC) for additional funding of up to Rs 3 lakh crore to eligible MSMEs and interested MUDRA borrowers, in the form of a guaranteed emergency credit line (GECL) facility.

Mee Annapurna Programe Launched for Farmers in Maharashtra

  • Mee Annapurna, an inclusive programe has been launched for the welfare of farmers and Bhoomiputras in Maharashtra.
  • The initiative was announced by Integrated Risk Insurance, an IRDA Licensed insurance intermediary.
  • Mee Annapurna will integrate three critical aspects of livelihood and comprehensive engagement. Elaborating on the scheme, Dr JH Rusat from Integrated Risk Insurance stated that the 'Mee Annapurna' programme involves three commandments - Expertise, Engagement and Entitlement. 
  • The programme is a part of the organisation's commitment as a Corporate Social Responsibility towards the welfare of the farmers and agriculture community in Maharashtra.

NTA Launches 'National Abhyas App' for JEE Main and NEET Aspirants

  • An artificial intelligence-powered mobile app 'National Test Abhyas' developed by the National Testing Agency (NTA) was launched.
  • The objective of the mobile app is to enable candidates to take mock tests for upcoming exams such as JEE (Main), NEET 2020 under the NTA's purview.
  • The app has been launched to facilitate candidates' access to high quality mock tests.

Punjab Govt Promulgates 'Punjab Good Conduct Prisoners Amendment Ordinance, 2020"

  • Punjab Government today promulgated 'The Punjab Good Conduct Prisoners (Temporary Release) Amendment Ordinance, 2020'.
  • As per new provisions, the temporary release of the prisoners has been allowed beyond the maximum period of 16 weeks in a calendar year.
  • Disclosing this at Chandigarh, Cooperation and Jails Minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa said that the step has been taken in view of containing the spread of COVID-19, with the intention to decongest the jails.
