Oxford University Press (OUP) named 'Samvidhaan' (Constitution) the Oxford Hindi Word of 2019, saying it received widespread attention in the year which was witness to the spirit of the Indian Constitution being embraced across segments of the society.
It said that the word was chosen as 2019 saw the values of democracy, secularism, justice, liberty, equality and fraternity being tested on the touchstone of the Constitution or 'Samvidhaan'.
The Oxford Hindi Word of the Year is a word or expression that has attracted a great deal of attention and reflects the ethos, mood, or preoccupations of the past year.
Prostate Overtakes Breast as most Common Cancer
Latest figures show that prostate cancer is now the most commonly diagnosed cancer in England, overtaking breast cancer for the first time.
In 2018 there were nearly 50,000 registered cases - around 8,000 more than in 2017.
Public Health England said that it is because more men are getting tested.
And that is thanks to celebrities, like Stephen Fry and Bill Turnbull, raising awareness by speaking out about their own experiences.
In 2018, there were 316,680 cancers of any kind diagnosed, the equivalent of 868 cases a day.
Prostate was the most common type - 49,029 cases - followed by breast - 47,476 cases.
Lung and bowel cancers were the next most commonly diagnosed.

IIT Gandhinagar to House 50 Corporate R&D Centres
Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar is building a research park that will house 50 corporate R&D centres at an investment of around Rs. 100 crore. A sizeable portion of this will be dedicated to micro and small enterprises sector that is known for its growth prospect and job creations.
The 200,000-square-feet facility, one of the largest among new national institutions, has bagged a grant of Rs. 90 crore from the department of science and technology (DST). Rest of the funding, including recurring cost, will come from the institution.
Pandey said, while 10 R&D centres will be of large companies and government departments, between 20 and 25 will be from the MSME sector and rest will be startups. Nine R&D facilities have already come on board.

After HC order, JNU Allows Students to Register without Paying Hiked Fee
Following a Delhi High Court order, the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) administration allowed students to register for the current semester without paying the revised hostel feel and any late payment penalty. The move has created discontent among a section of the students who had registered earlier by paying the hiked hostel fee, with some of them saying that they should get a refund.
The Delhi High Court had allowed the remaining 10% students to register on the older fee rates, after the JNU Students Union (JNUSU) had moved court seeking withdrawal of the new fee structure.
Mumbai Gets Second All-women Post Office
The city's second 'mahila dakghar' - post office operated by women staffers was inaugurated by operations member, Department of Posts, Arundhaty Ghosh at Mahim Bazaar.
All the official positions at the post office, from postmaster in-charge to counter persons, will be managed by women. They will manage and supervise all types of work including, Savings Bank Counters, Multipurpose registration booking counters, Aadhaar Centre, India Posts Payment Bank and Treasury work.
Until now, Mumbai had only one all-women post office, which is located in the Fort area and managed by five women employees.

Over 29,700 passengers from 137 flights were screened for novel coronavirus infection at seven identified airports in the country but no positive case was detected.
Over 100 people have been kept under observation in Kerala and Maharashtra following screening for a possible exposure to novel coronavirus (nCov) as the Prime Minister's Office reviewed India's preparedness to deal with any situation amid mounting global concern over rising cases in China.

Centre Enrols Hospitals Run by Railways, PSUs in PMJAY
As per reports, India is aiming to plug significant gaps in providing healthcare in smaller cities and towns under the ambitious Ayushman Bharat programme by signing up hospitals operated by state-run companies and Indian Railways.
NITI Aayog adviser Alok Kumar had raised concerns about the world's largest health insurance programme at an industry event in November. He said that a number of hospitals in smaller cities—including those run by state-run enterprises—are underutilised, even though there is strong demand for their services in these regions especially because of the insurance programme.
Singrauli, the power capital of India, has hospitals of NTPC and Coal India Ltd; all of them underutilised (like) shells standing. Railway hospitals (are like) shells standing but not being utilised efficiently enough.
Since the letter was written, 236 hospitals have got themselves empanelled under the health insurance scheme, officially called Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY), while nearly 700 more that are left are in talks to join the scheme.
The 236 hospitals operated by public sector undertakings (PSUs) include 91 operated by the ministry of railways, in places such as Itarsi in Madhya Pradesh, Ajmer, Kota, Jodhpur and Jaipur in Rajasthan, Gaya and Garhara in Bihar, Gonda and Moradabad in Uttar Pradesh, among others, according to a document seen by Mint. Another 36 hospitals under ministry of coal, at places like Korba, Churcha, Bisrampur and Kurasia, have also been empanelled.
Discussion on Constitution Compulsory in Schools
The Chhattisgarh government made it mandatory for all educational institutions in the state to have an hour of "discussion sessions" on the Indian Constitution. The state education department conveyed the decision in a letter addressed to collectors and divisional commissioners
The discussions are to be held every Monday after the morning assembly, said the letter by the Chhattisgarh education department. The letter also tells what is to be discussed every week, starting with the Preamble in the first week.

The decision to make reading of Preamble to Constitution mandatory in Schools across the state was announced by the Department of School Education, Madhya Pradesh Government.
All schools will hold the reading of Preamble of the Constitution mandatory in schools on every Saturday. Following the decision, orders have been issued to the respective District Education Officers across the state to facilitate the process and ensure that the government's directions are complied with.

India supplied 30,000 doses of Measles and Rubella (MR) vaccine to the Maldives responding swiftly to an emergency request to contain the measles outbreak in the Maldives. The vaccine supply was quickly procured and delivered to Maldives Health Ministry within 72 hours of the request.

All 70 Assembly Seats Will Have One Pink Booth Each
In a first, all 70 assembly constituencies in Delhi will have a model 'pink' polling station, managed exclusively by women, when the city goes to vote on February 8. The concept of pink booths, where the polling party is all women, was launched in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections when 14 such booths were set up across districts.
Delhi's Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Ranbir Singh said that this year, we will have a model polling booth in each constituency, where the polling party will be all women. Also, we are trying to have one booth in each of the 11 districts in Delhi to be manned by specially abled officials.
