Top IITs, IIMs Launch Consortium to Boost Entrepreneurship Ecosystem in Indian

  • Premier technical and management institutions in the country have joined hands to launch a consortium to boost Indian entrepreneurship ecosystem through high quality research in innovation, venturing and entrepreneurship.
  • Called 'Innovation-Venturing and Entrepreneurship in India Network (iVEIN),' its founding members are faculty at IIT Madras, IIT Bombay, IIM Bangalore, IIM Calcutta and IIM Kozhikode. This network of institutions will leverage strengths of the partners and would work with other stakeholders such as incubators, government and investors to generate and disseminate knowledge.
  • iVEIN was launched in February, 2020 along the side-lines of 'Dialogue with Stakeholders' event held by SINE (Society for Innovation and Entrepreneurship) at IIT Bombay.

Prepare for Pandemic, Warns WHO

  • The World Health Organization chief warned countries to prepare for a potential pandemic of new coronavirus, calling the sudden increase in cases in Iran, Italy and South Korea deeply concerning.
  • But Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus also said that a WHO joint mission to China that concluded found that the virus there peaked between January 23 and February 2 and has been declining steadily since then.
  • China's bold actions in the epicentre of Hubei province and its capital Wuhan have probably prevented hundreds of thousands of cases, Bruce Aylward, leader of the WHO delegation said in Beijing adding that the global community was not ready with either the mindset or material to act in the same way.
  • The remarks from WHO came amid a rise in Covid-19 cases and deaths in Italy, South Korea and Iran amid and fears that the outbreak could escalate into a pandemic.

IFIM B-school Starts Indo-Europa BBA

  • IFIM Business School, Vijaybhoomi University, one of India's top-six AACSB-accredited B-schools, tied up with ESCP Europe, the world's oldest B-school, to launch a dual-degree BBA programme. "It will help students pursuing BBA at IFIM Business School by having the option of completing one year in India at our campus, and pursuing the remaining two years at ESCP to obtain a Bachelor in Management from ESCP and BBA from IFIM Business School," said Sanjay Padode, president, Vijaybhoomi University.
  • What makes the ESCP BBA unique is that it is a three-country programme where students will need to complete their second year at one of the ESCP campuses (Paris, Frankfurt, London) after their one year in India and the third year in one of these campuses other than the campus selected by them in the second year. Students will pay the standard fee of Rs 3.2 lakh per year for the first year at IFIM Business School at Karjat Campus, near Mumbai, and will be paying the ESCP fees for the remaining two years.
  • The new programme was announced last week at the International Conclave on Learning Ecosystems in Bengaluru, held to celebrate IFIM's 25-year journey, and inaugurated by Eric Cornuel, CEO & director general of European Foundation for Management Development, and Debashis Chatterji, director, IIM Kozhikode.

Indian Railway Partners with University of Birmingham for Joint PG Programme

  • The Indian Railways announced its partnership with the University of Birmingham for the Joint Master's programme in Railway Systems Engineering and Integration in academic year 2020-2021 by the National Rail Transportation Institute (NRTI).
  • The announcement was made by Chairman Railway Board Vinod Kumar Yadav and Lord Karan Billimoria, Chancellor, University of Birmingham.
  • According to the Railway Ministry officials, the programme that has been launched leads to dual M.Sc. that would see NRTI students obtaining two postgraduate degrees from both institutions, after spending a year studying at each institution.
  • It will also provide flexibility for some modules of the programme to be delivered online in the form of a Postgraduate Certificate (PG Cert) and support for undergraduate teaching by University of Birmingham faculty at NRTI.

IIT Ropar launches New-Age Multidimensional Certificate Programme in Data Sciene

  • IIT Ropar with the Canada-India Centre for Excellence (CICE), Canada at Carleton University and International School of Engineering (INSOFE) has launched Post Graduate Program (PGP ) in Data Science for Senior and Middle Management roles and for top executives in-charge of Profit & Loss or innovation with a focus on teaching frameworks that help the senior leaders define the AI blueprint, people strategy, infrastructure strategy, data strategy etc. The launch of these executive training programs took place in the august presence of H. E. Mia Yen, Consul-General of Canada to Chandigarh among other dignitaries.

From April 1, Classes 5 and 8 Students can be Detained

  • Delhi government's amended no-detention policy — according to which students of government and private schools can be detained in classes 5 and 8 in certain circumstances — will come into effect from April 1.
  • The committee was set up to advise the government after Parliament amended the Right to Education (RTE) Act, 2009, in January 2019 and did away with the no-detention policy, under which no student could be failed till class 8. The states were given the option of deciding if they wanted to continue with the policy or not.
  • According to officials, the government will issue a notification announcing the implementation of the amended policy in March first week.

SBI Life Teams up for Pre-school Education in Meghalaya Anganwadis

  • SBI Life Insurance and SBI Foundation along with Sesame Workshop India is set to launch 'Learn, Play, Grow', an initiative to strengthen the quality of early education in 3,000 Anganwadis in Meghalaya benefiting over 60,000 children.
  • The Anganwadis network, under the aegis of Integrated Child Development Services is the primary provider of pre-school services to children. It has made strides in contributing to child and maternal health, early nutrition and awareness on immunisation.
  • The network is now looking to strengthen its ability to deliver quality early education by focusing on infrastructure and staff training.
