Coir Board sign with IIT Madras MoU to establish CoE for Coir applications
Coir Board signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Indian Institute of Technology-Madras, to establish a Centre of Excellence for Coir Applications.
The Centre of Excellence aims at furthering the research work done so far in the coir sector with the support of IIT, Madras.
It will also support the development of relevant technology and evolve standards for production and processing through specific projects and monitor research projects.
Coir Board will provide a financial assistance of five crore rupees initially for a period of two years for the establishment and running of the Centre of Excellence. In all, 27 areas of Research and Development have been identified for the coir industry which will be taken up by this Centre of Excellence.

CSIR-IGIB and TATA Sons Sign MoU for licensing 'KNOWHOW'
For rapid diagnosis of Covid-19, an MoU was signed between Council of Scientific and Industrial Research's (CSIR) constituent lab, Institute of Genomics and Integrative Biology (CSIR-IGIB) and TATA Sons for licensing of 'KNOWHOW' for FNCAS9 Editor Linked Uniform Detection Assay (FELUDA) for rapid diagnosis of Covid19.
A completely indigenous scientific invention, FELUDA for Covid-19 has been designed for mitigating the ongoing Covid-19 situation and cater to mass testing.

Culture Minister Releases E-Book "Prof. B. B. Lal-India Rediscovered"
On the occasion of centenary year of great archaeologist Professor B. B. Lal, Union Culture Minister Shri Prahlad Singh Patel released an e-book "Prof. B. B. Lal -India Rediscovered" in New Delhi.
Secretary, Ministry of Culture Shri Anand Kumar was also present on this occasion.
Prof Lal was born on May 2,1921 in village Baidora, District Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh.
The book is a centenary special edition which has been prepared by Ministry of culture in collaboration with Prof B B Lal Centenary Celebration Committee.
The book is a tribute from Ministry of culture for his immense contribution to the field of archaeology.

CSIR Identifies top 25 Drugs, Drug Candidates for Repurposing
To provide drugs for Coronavirus patients in India, Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) has identified the top 25 drugs and drug candidates for repurposing.
Among these top 25 drugs, Favipiravir a broad spectrum inhibitor of viral RNA polymerase has emerged as of one of the most promising drugs.
Favipiravir was developed by Fujifilm Toyama Chemical Ltd., and is an approved treatment for common influenza and is marketed in Russia, China and Japan.
CSIR-IICT, based in Hyderabad has developed a convenient and cost effective synthetic process for Favipiravir.

G-20 launches access to COVID-19 Tools Accelerator" Initiative
The Saudi G20 Presidency has welcome the launch of "Access to COVID-19 Tools (ACT) Accelerator", a landmark, global and timely collaboration for the accelerated development, production and equitable access to new COVID-19 tools.
The ACT Accelerator initiative will be a global platform for action to enhance connections and leverage interdependencies for collective partnership, problem-solving, mobilizing and guiding investments, and driving equitable access for new COVID-19 diagnostics, therapeutics and vaccines.
