Manpreet Singh First Indian to Win FIH Male Player of the Year Award

National men's team captain Manpreet Singh became the first Indian to win the International Hockey Federation's (FIH) Player of the Year award, capping a memorable 2019 season in which he led the side to Olympic qualification.
Manpreet Singh, thus, became the first from the country to win the accolade since the awards were introduced in 1999.
He beat competition from Belgium's Arthur van Dorren and Lucas Villa of Argentina, who came second and third respectively.
Other players who were nominated for the award were Victor Wegnez of Belgium and Australian duo of Aran Zalewski and Eddie Ockenden.

IIMC Awards Alumni for Best Work in Journalism, PR

The Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) awarded the exemplary work in journalism and allied fields. The IIMC Alumni Association announced winners of the fourth IFFCO IIMCAA Awards during the annual alumni meet – Connections 2020, at IIMC headquarters in New Delhi.
Several awards including 11 in reporting, 12 in desk production, 7 awards in advertising, PR and communications and 1 in media research were distributed. Priyamvada Rana and Pratyush Deep Kotoky jointly received the highest winning amount of Rs. 51,000 for Agricultural reporting while other winners received Rs. 21,000 each.

Pullela Gopichand First Indian to Receive IOC's Honourable Mention

Top Indian badminton coach, Pullela Gopichand was awarded an "honourable mention" at the IOC Coaches Lifetime Achievement Awards 2019 for his excellence and contribution in the field of coaching.
Gopichand received the mention in the male category of the awards. He is the first-ever Indian to receive the prestigious honour.
The International Olympic Committee said in a statement that the panel wishes to recognise Gopichand's efforts in the development of Badminton sport in India, his efforts to support athletes across sports as well as his contribution to the Olympic Movement.

Australian Cricket Awards

David Warner and Ellyse Perry were the recipients of the Allan Border Medal and Belinda Clark Medal at the 2020 Australian Cricket Awards on Monday.
The medals are awarded to players from the women's and men's teams respectively, voted on by players, umpires and media from across all international cricket.
Warner, who also won the T20I player of the year, enjoyed a brilliant campaign during the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2019, scoring 647 runs across the tournament, second only to Rohit Sharma's 648.
Perry eclipsed Alyssa Healy by 161 votes and was adjudged as the women T20I player of the year, women's ODI player of the year. She was the star performer in the Women's Ashes with a dazzling hundred in the Test and 11 wickets in three ODIs.

Oscars 2020

"Parasite" took home the top prize at the 92nd Academy Awards. It is the first non-English language film to win the best picture award.
The movie was considered an underdog headed into the ceremony, beating out strong competition from "1917" and "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood" for the best picture win.
The film also won the award for best international feature, best director and best original screenplay. It is South Korea's first nominated film.
"Parasite" has become a bit of a breakout hit in the U.S. and had gained momentum heading. The film won prizes from the Writers Guild of America, Independent Spirit Awards and BAFTAs.
Director Bong Joon Ho's win in the achievement in directing category was an upset as "1917′s" Sam Mendes was the favorite to win after securing the Golden Globe and Directors Guild awards for best director.
