Election Commission of India Gets 'Silver' Award

The Election Commission of India was awarded 'Silver' for Excellence in Government Process re-engineering for digital transformation for the year 2019-20. The award was given in February 2020.
The award seeks to recognise the projects that involved analysis and re-design of workflow and which resulted in improvement in outcomes related to efficiency, effectiveness of process, cost, quality, service delivery or a combination of these.
The award was presented during the 23rd National Conference on e-Governance held in February 2020 at Mumbai by Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DARPG), Government of India.

This is the 20th anniversary of the prestigious Laureus Award which celebrates the best in the world of sport.

Laureus World Sportsperson of the Year with a Disability: Oksana Masters
Laureus World Action Sportsperson of the Year: Chloe Kim
Laureus Best Sporting Moment: 'Carried on the shoulders of a nation' – Sachin Tendulkar
Laureus Lifetime Achievement Award: Dirk Nowitzki
Laureus Academy Exceptional Achievement Award: Spanish Basketball Federation
Laureus Sport for Good Award: South Bronx United
The most prestigious award of the night - the Laureus Lifetime Achievement Award was bagged by German basketball legend Dirk Nowitzki for his contribution to the sport. Widely regarded to be the greatest European basketball player ever, Nowitzki spent his entire 21-year career at the Dallas Mavericks. Nowitzki retired at the end of the 2018-19 season.
Sachin Tendulkar collected the Laureus Sporting Moment of the Year 2000-2020 for this World Cup-winning celebration in 2011. It was India's first WC win on home soil and its second cricket world title. Sachin was honoured by tennis legend Boris Becker and former competitor and good friend Steve Waugh.

Filmfare Awards 2020

The Filmfare Awards were dominated by Zoya Akhtar's Gully Boy, which swept through all 13 categories it was nominated in. It registered Gully Boy in history as the film with most Filmfare wins, beating Black's previous record of 11 awards. The awards show was held in Guwahati this year (2020).
Gully Boy bagged Best Film, Best Director for Zoya, Best Actor for Ranveer Singh and Best Actress for Alia Bhatt. Best Supporting Role Male went to Siddhant Chaturvedi for his role as MC Sher while Best Supporting Role Female was won by Amruta Subhash, who played Ranveer's mother in the film.

Carl H June and Narasimhan Bag Genome Valley Excellence Award

Carl H. June, a scientist from the College of Pennsylvania, USA and Vasant Narasimham, CEO of Novartis shared the Genome Valley Excellence Award of BioAsia, an annual biotech and lifestyles sciences discussion board of Telangana Executive.
Carl H. June, was chosen for his pioneering work in the field of immunotherapy, breakthrough research in developing CAR-T therapy for treatment of cancer and development and commercialisation of world's first FDA-approved gene therapy.
Vas (Vasant) Narasimhan, CEO of Novartis was recognised for inspiring the world with the bold new vision to reimagine the pharmaceutical business including embracing digital technology and transforming healthcare.
Genome Valley Excellence Award was constituted in 2004 to recognise and honour eminent individuals and organisations for their exceptional contribution to Life Sciences research and public health.

South Indian Bank Bags 6 IBA Awards

The South Indian Bank won six awards at the 'Banking Technology Awards 2020' organised by the Indian Banks Association.
Best Technology Bank of the Year, Best use of data and analytics for business, best IT risk management and cyber security initiatives, best payment initiatives, consumer centric use of technology, best CIO were the awards bagged by the South Indian Bank at the event.
The conference and award ceremony was held in Mumbai.

Gita Sen Wins Dan David Prize 2020

Gita Sen , an Indian feminist scholar, activist won the prestigious Dan David Prize 2020 under "present" category for her path-breaking work in the fields of population policies, reproductive and sexual health, women's rights, poverty, labour markets and global governance.

Manpreet Singh First Indian to Win FIH Male Player of the Year Award

National men's team captain Manpreet Singh became the first Indian to win the International Hockey Federation's (FIH) Player of the Year award, capping a memorable 2019 season in which he led the side to Olympic qualification.
Manpreet Singh, thus, became the first from the country to win the accolade since the awards were introduced in 1999.
He beat competition from Belgium's Arthur van Dorren and Lucas Villa of Argentina, who came second and third respectively.
Other players who were nominated for the award were Victor Wegnez of Belgium and Australian duo of Aran Zalewski and Eddie Ockenden.
