Himachal Pradesh Power Minister Anil Sharma tendered his resignation from the Cabinet, days after his son Ashray Sharma was announced as the Congress candidate from the Mandi Lok Sabha constituency.
The Minister was under attack from the ruling BJP and facing an uneasy equation with Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur after he conveyed to the party that he would neither campaign against his son nor canvass for the BJP candidate, Ram Swarup Shrama, in the Mandi constituency.
He, however, said he was willing to campaign for BJP candidates elsewhere in the State.
Earlier, Mr. Anil Sharma's father, former Union Minister Sukh Ram, quit the BJP and along with his grandson joined the Congress.
The Congress then fielded Mr. Ashray Sharma as its candidate from Mandi.
Mohan Named Part-time Chairman
The board of City Union Bank Ltd. recommended its independent director R. Mohan to be the next part-time chairman with effect from May 4.
The board also forwarded an application to this effect to the Reserve Bank of India as the present incumbent S. Mahalingam's tenure ends on May 3.
Mr. Mohan, who has been associated with the bank since 1975, was promoted as the chief general manager in 2011 and in 2014 he was inducted on to the board. He is also part of various board committees.

Next Ujjivan SFB CEO Likely
Nitin Chugh, digital banking head of private sector lender HDFC Bank, is likely to succeed Samit Ghosh, the managing director and chief executive of Ujjivan Small Finance Bank.
Mr. Ghosh, who is also the founder of Ujjivan SFB, will retire in November 2019 and the process to find a successor started in 2018.
The Bengaluru-based small finance bank has already applied to the Reserve Bank of India for approval to appoint Mr. Chugh as the managing director and chief executive officer.
Cairn India's CEO and CFO Resign
Cairn India CEO Sudhir Mathur and CFO Pankaj Kalra have resigned from the firm. Ajay Dixit, who was CEO of the Aluminum and Power divisions of Vedanta, will take over from Mr. Mathur in the interim, after his exit.
Mr. Mathur is the fourth CEO to quit the firm after it was acquired by Vedanta in 2011.
President Omar al-Bashir Forced to Step Down
Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir was deposed by the army and consultations were under way to form a transitional council to run the country, drawing a line under three decades of autocratic power that included allegations of genocide.
It was not known what would now happen to Bashir, who has been indicted by the International Criminal Court in The Hague and is facing an arrest warrant over allegations of genocide in Sudan's Darfur region during an insurgency that began in 2003 and led to death of an estimated 300,000 people.
U.S. Charges Assange with Hacking
U.S. prosecutors announced charges against WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, accusing him of conspiring with former Army intelligence analyst Chelsea Manning to gain access to a government computer as part of one of the largest compromises of classified information in U.S. history.
Mr. Assange, arrested by British police in London and carried out of Ecuador's Embassy, faces up to five years in prison on the American charge, the U.S. Justice Department said in a statement. His arrest paved the way for his possible extradition to the U.S.
Mr. Assange's indictment arose from a long-running criminal investigation dating back to former President Barack Obama's administration.
It was triggered in part by the 2010 publication by WikiLeaks of hundreds of thousands of U.S. military reports about the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq and American diplomatic communications.

First Chief Justice of New Andhra Pradesh HC
Senior judge of Allahabad High Court, Justice Vikram Nath, was appointed as the first Chief Justice of Andhra Pradesh High Court.
A collegium of Supreme Court comprising Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi and judges S. A. Bobde and N. V. Ramana recommended the name of Justice Nath as the Chief Justice of the AP High Court.
The new high court for Andhra Pradesh was created on January 1, 2019, following the bifurcation of a combined high court for AP and Telangana, which had been operating from Hyderabad since June 2, 2014, when the two Telugu states got separated.
Since the bifurcation of the high court, Justice C. Praveen Kumar had been functioning as acting Chief Justice of Andhra Pradesh High Court.

Netanyahu Wins Fifth Term in Office
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has won the Israeli national election, securing a record fifth term in office.
With 96 per cent of the votes counted, Netanyahu's right-wing Likud won 37 of Knesset seats, against 36 for centrist Blue and White, headed by Netanyahu's rival, former general Benny Gantz.
Though neither party captured a ruling majority in the 120-member Knesset, the results, published eight hours after voting ended, put Netanyahu in a strong position to form a coalition government with right-wing factions.
Algerian Lawmakers Choose New President
Lawmakers named Abdelkader Bensalah, the Speaker of the Upper House, as Algeria's first new President in two decades, after the resignation of Abdelaziz Bouteflika following mass protests.
The election of Abdelkader Bensalah as interim president follows constitutional rules but goes against the demands of demonstrators, who have pushed for him and other top politicians to stand down.

Kirstjen Nielsen Resigns
Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen resigned. Ms. Nielsen will, however, stay on until April 10 after which Kevin McAleenan, the current U.S. Customs and Border Protection Commissioner, will take charge as Acting Homeland Security Secretary.
Ms. Nielson, who had a rocky working relationship with President Donald Trump, handed in her resignation at a time when there were growing signs of division within the administration over how to handle the swelling numbers at the U.S.-Mexico border.
Raj Kumar Saini Not to Contest Polls
Loktanter Suraksha Party (LSP) chief and Kurukshetra MP Raj Kumar Saini has decided not to contest the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Saini said that senior leaders of the LSP-BSP alliance did not field him into these elections because he wanted to campaign across all 10 Lok Sabha segments in Haryana.
Saini had contested 2014 parliamentary elections from Kurukshetra on BJP ticket and defeated his close rival, INLD's Balbir Saini, by a margin of 1.29 lakh votes.
Candidates in Fray for Lok Sabha Seats in Gujarat
With the last day of withdrawal of nominations, as many as 371 candidates were left in the fray for the 26 Lok Sabha seats in Gujarat which would go the hustings in the third phase on April 26.
According to the Chief Electoral Officer`s office, 81 candidates withdrew their forms leaving 371 candidates, including 26 each of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress, in the race.
The Election Commission of India (ECI) had received total 572 nominations from across Gujarat for the 26 Lok Sabha seats.
Vice Admiral Moves Tribunal
Vice Admiral Bimal Verma moved the Armed Forces Tribunal (AFT) over his supersession and appointment of Vice Admiral Karambir Singh as the next Chief of Naval Staff (CNS).
He is currently the Commander-in-Chief of Andaman and Nicobar-based tri-service command.
Vice Admiral Verma approached the AFT to know why he was superseded for the top post despite being the senior most.
