Amit Agarwal Resigns

  •  Debt-ridden Jet Airways announced that its CFO and deputy CEO Amit Agarwal has resigned from the company citing personal reasons, with effect from 13 May 2019.
  • Jet Airways is running into a debt of more than Rs 8,500 crore and the airlines has shut down operations temporarily after lenders decided not to extend emergency funds for its survival.

Sanjiv Puri Gets Elevation

  •  Diversified ITC Group announced the elevation of its MD Sanjiv Puri as the Chairman and Managing Director of the company. 
  • Puri's elevation comes after noted industry leader and erstwhile ITC Chairman Y. C. Deveshwar passed away.
  • Deveshwar had stepped down from executive role in 2017 but remained as a chairman in non-executive capacity.
  • The Board of Directors of the company at the meeting appointed Sanjiv Puri, Managing Director, also as the Chairman of the Company with effect from May 13, 2019.

Hinduja Brothers Regain Top Spot

  •  Srichand and Gopichand Hinduja have returned as the United Kingdom's wealthiest in the 2019 Sunday Times Rich List, with steel magnate Lakshmi Mittal and family and mining major Anil Agarwal making it to the top 20 richest.
  • The Hinduja brothers replace British businessman Jim Ratcliffe on the top spot with a wealth of £22 billion, up £1.35 billion on 2018 list.
  • The Mumbai born property developers, David and Simon Reuben, took the second spot with £18.6 billion.

Y. C. Deveshwar Passes Away

  •  Yogesh Chander Deveshwar, ITC's longest-serving chairman, passed away. He was 72.
  • Mr. Deveshwar acquired a stature through years of hard work, during which he set his sights on changing the course of ITC, which was till recently known as a cigarette company.
  • His vision extended beyond the corporate staple of toplines and bottomlines.
  • He wanted ITC to be known as an entity that looked at creation of sustainable livelihoods and value-chains that would help society and enrich environment.

JLL India Makes Top Level Changes

  •  JLL India, a global real estate servicing firm, has made top level changes in its Chennai business.
  • Siva Krishnan, who was heading residential services developer solutions and strategic consulting businesses has been appointed as MD.
  • Kanchana Krishnan has been appointed as head – markets and retail, Chennai.
  • Jerry Kingsley has been promoted as head – capital markets, South India and head – Sri Lanka.

Maharashtra's New Chief Secretary

  •  Mumbai municipal commissioner Ajoy Mehta has been appointed as Maharashtra's new chief secretary.
  • Mehta succeeds UPS Madan who has been named as the special advisor to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
  • Mehta, a 1984 batch IAS officer, is scheduled to retire in September 2019.

Jet Accepts Gaurang Shetty's Resignation

  •  Jet Airways announced the resignation of its whole-time director Gaurang Shetty. He had stepped down from the board and also resigned on April 23, 2019.
  • His resignation was accepted on May 9, 2019. While Mr. Shetty wanted to be relieved immediately, the board asked him to continue till May 23, 2019.
  • After seeking legal opinion, the board accepted his resignation with effect from April 23, 2019.

Kidari Sravan Kumar Resigns

  •  Kidari Sravan Kumar resigned from the Cabinet as Minister for Tribal Welfare and Empowerment, Primary Health and Family Welfare, A.P. Vaidya Vidhana Parishad, AYUSH and Drug Control, consequent to the expiry of the six-month deadline (May 10) before which he was supposed to get elected as a member of the Legislature.
  • Mr. Kumar was inducted into the Cabinet (took oath on November 11, 2018) after his father Kidari Sarveswara Rao (MLA from Araku in Visakhapatnam district) was killed by Maoists.
  • By-elections were not held within the stipulated time.
  • Mr. Kumar thanked Mr. Naidu for giving him the opportunity to serve as a Minister in his Cabinet.

UPS Madan Opts for Voluntary Retirement

  •  Barely a month after taking charge the State's Chief Secretary UPS Madan has opted for voluntary retirement.
  • The government has forwarded a proposal, prepared by the government at a high-level meeting, to the Election Commission of India (ECI) for approval to appoint a new chief secretary.
  • Mr. Madan took charge from D.K. Jain, who was appointed judicial member, Lokpal.
  • The three names forwarded in the proposal are Municipal Commissioner Ajoy Mehta, Additional Chief Secretary (Industries) Satish Gavai, and Additional Chief Secretary (Housing) Sanjay Kumar, all of the 1984 batch of the Indian Administrative Services.
