World Theatre Day

  •  World Theatre Day was initiated in 1961 by the International Theatre Institute (ITI).
  • It is celebrated annually on the 27th March by ITI Centres and the international theatre community. Various national and international theatre events are organised to mark this occasion.
  • One of the most important of these is the circulation of the World Theatre Day International Message through which at the invitation of ITI, a figure of world stature shares his or her reflections on the theme of Theatre and a Culture of Peace.
  • The first World Theatre Day International Message was written by Jean Cocteau (France) in 1962.
  • It was first in Helsinki, and then in Vienna at the 9th World Congress of the ITI in June 1961 that President Arvi Kivimaa proposed on behalf of the Finnish Centre of the International Theatre Institute that a World Theatre Day be instituted.
  • The proposal, backed by the Scandinavian centres, was carried with acclamation.

World TB Day

  •  Each year, World Tuberculosis (TB) Day is commemorated on March 24 to raise public awareness about the devastating health, social and economic consequences of TB, and to step up efforts to end the global TB epidemic.
  • The date marks the day in 1882 when Dr. Robert Koch announced that he had discovered the bacterium that causes TB, which opened the way towards diagnosing and curing this disease.
  • Each World TB Day addresses a different theme. This year's theme is 'It's time'.

  •  The International Day of Happiness is celebrated worldwide every March 20, and was conceptualized and founded by philanthropist, activist, statesman, and prominent United Nations special advisor Jayme Illien to inspire, mobilize, and advance the global happiness movement.
  • The International Day of Happiness was adopted by the unanimous consensus of all 193 UN member states of the United Nations General Assembly on June 28, 2012.
  • Every March 20 since 2013, the International Day of Happiness is celebrated in 193 UN Member states, 2 observer states, and 11 territories.
