International Development Week

International Development Week (IDW) is an annual initiative held during in February since 1991 to engage Canadians on global issues.
This uniquely Canadian tradition offers an opportunity to pause and to acknowledge Canadian contributions to poverty reduction and international humanitarian assistance in the developing world.
Canadians individuals, the government of Canada and civil society organisations mark this week by organising hundreds of activities across the country and abroad.
The 30th anniversary of International Development Week was celebrated from February 2 to 8.
This year, International Development Week celebrated its 30th anniversary under the theme "Go for the Goals". Referring to the United Nations' 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, this theme illustrates the idea of moving forward in a collaborative and positive way toward a better world.

Rwanda Hosts International Conference on Drones

An international conference on drone technology opened in Rwanda's capital Kigali.
Hundreds of participants from 44 countries around the world are in Kigali, Rwanda's capital for the international conference on drone technology.
The three-day event brings together civilian drone operators and policy regulators.
One of the main attractions is a competition to fly drones over Lake Kivu.

Fourth East Asia Maritime Event

India, Australia and Indonesia will jointly organise the fourth East Asia Summit (EAS) Conference on Maritime Security Cooperation in Chennai during February 6-7 that will focus on issues such as maritime safety and New Delhi's Indo-Pacific Oceans Initiative. The decision to hold the conference was announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the East Asia Summit in Bangkok in November 2019. As a nation deeply committed to strengthening the EAS as an Asean-led organisation, India continues to contribute positively to the EAS goals.

National Day of Sri Lanka

Independence Day, also known as National Day, is a Sri Lankan national holiday celebrated annually on 4th February to commemorate the country's political independence from British rule in 1948. It is celebrated all over the country through a flag-hoisting ceremony, dances, parades and performances. Usually, the main celebration takes place in Colombo, where the President raises the national flag and delivers a nationally televised speech.
For the first time since 2016, there will be no Tamil national anthem at the 72nd Independence Day celebrations in Sri Lanka and it will only be rendered in Sinhalese, the government announced, amply demonstrating the administration's priority for the majority Sinhala community.
Sri Lanka's Constitution provides for the singing of the national anthem in both Sinhala and Tamil.

World Cancer Day

World Cancer Day is celebrated on 4th February to raise awareness about the disease cancer, its prevention, and treatment.
According to WHO, 17 people die every minute from cancer in the world. Every year, World Cancer Day is observed with a particular theme. The day is organised by the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC). WHO has designed a guide to cancer early diagnosis.
First World Cancer Day was celebrated in 1993 in Geneva, Switzerland under the direction of Union for International Cancer Control (UICC). This was organised by the support of some well-known cancer societies, research institutes, treatment centers, and patient groups.
The 2020 World Cancer Day theme is 'I am and I will'.
