World Radio Day

Proclaimed in 2011 by the Member States of UNESCO, and adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in 2012 as an International Day, February 13 became World Radio Day (WRD).
Radio is a medium to educate and provide information. It also helps in promoting freedom of expression across cultures.
The main purpose of celebrating World Radio Day is to spread awareness among the public and the media to raise the importance of radio. It also encourages decision-makers to establish and provide access to information through radio, enhance networking and generate a sort of international cooperation among the broadcasters.
The theme of World Radio Day 2020 is "Radio and Diversity". The theme focuses on diversity and plurilingualism. It is an important medium to celebrate humanity in all its diversity and provides a platform for democratic discourse.

Second BIMSTEC Disaster Management Exercise-2020

The "2nd BIMSTEC Disaster Management Exercise-2020 (BIMSTEC DMEx-2020)" was held at Bhubaneswar/Puri, Odisha from 11-13 February, 2020 with themes "A cultural heritage site that suffers severe damage in the Earthquake" & "Flooding or Storm". Organised by National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), on behalf of the Government of India, BIMSTEC DMEx-2020 was inaugurated by Chief Minister of Odisha, Shri Naveen Patnaik on February 11, 2020. While Minister of State (Home), Nityanand Rai launched field training exercise scheduled on 12th February, 2020 at Ramachandi Beach, District-Puri, Odisha. The first similar kind of exercise took place in 2017.

National Women's Day (Sarojini Naidu's Birth Anniversary)

India celebrates Sarojini Naidu's birthday as National Women's Day of India every year on February 13. Sarojini Naidu was India's first women governor and also famous as 'Bharat Kokila'. Sarojini Naidu was born on February 13, 1879. She actively participated in the Indian National Movement for the independence of the country.

Darwin Day

Darwin Day is Celebrated annually on February 12th, Darwin Day – also known as International Darwin Day – is a holiday that commemorates the birth of naturalists and geologist Charles Darwin in 1809. This holiday is also a day to bring attention to Darwin's contributions to science and is also used to highlight science in general. It is celebrated in the United States and all over the world.
While the celebration of Charles Darwin's life and work has been done sporadically since he died in 1882, it would be many years before an official holiday commemorating him would be created. Over the years it was recognized by numerous groups of scientists, academics and by universities all over the globe. In the United States, it was made an official holiday due to House Resolution 67 which designated February 12 as Darwin Day in the United States in 2015.

First 'Jerusalem-Mumbai Festival' to be held in Mumbai

The first 'Jerusalem-Mumbai Festival' will be held in the capital of Maharashtra this week to showcase the special links between the two cities and to promote ties between India and Israel.
The two-day festival starting on February 15 will seek to promote artistic cooperation in the diverse fields of culture, such as culinary art, music and dance.
On the first day, people with invitation will be allowed to participate while the festival will be open to the public on February 16.
In the first such collaborative cultural event for the Jerusalem municipality in an Asian city, Jerusalem-Mumbai Festival looks to showcase the special links between the two cities while demonstrating their unique cultural traditions.

International Day of Women and Girls in Science

On 22nd December 2015, the General Assembly decided to establish an annual International Day to recognize the critical role women and girls play in science and technology, through Resolution A/RES/70/212.
The International Day of Women and Girls in Science, celebrated on 11th February, is implemented by UNESCO and UN-Women, in collaboration institutions and civil society partners that aim to promote women and girls in science. This Day is an opportunity to promote full and equal access to and participation in science for women and girls.
Gender equality is a global priority for UNESCO, and the support of young girls, their education and their full ability to make their ideas heard are levers for development and peace.

World Pulses Day

World Pulses Day is a day established by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations to recognize the importance of pulses (dry beans, lentils, dry peas, chickpeas, lupins) as a global food.It has been designated on February 10 each year since 2019 by the seventy-third session of the United Nations General Assembly on December 20, 2018. The date aims to bring attention to activities and information connected to the pulse sector worldwide.

PM to inaugurate UN Summit on migratory species in Gandhinagar

The 13th Conference of Parties (COP) of the Convention on the conservation of migratory species of wild animals (CMS), an environmental treaty under the aegis of United Nations Environment Programme, is going to be hosted by India during 15th to 22nd February, 2020 at Gandhinagar in Gujarat. Representatives from 129 Parties and eminent conservationists and international NGOs working in the field of wildlife conservation are expected to attend the COP.
India has been a Party to the CMS since 1983. The Conference of Parties (COP) is the decision-making organ of this convention.
Inaugurating the Logo and Mascot (GIBI) along with website for the international event, in New Delhi, the hosting of 13th COP would give India an opportunity to showcase its conservation initiatives for wildlife species. "It will provide a global platform for deliberations on the conservation and sustainable use of migratory wild animals and their habitat.

National Deworming Day

The National Deworming Day (NDD) is observed across the country on February 10. Children and adolescents in the age group of 1-19 years are administered single dose of a safe medicine Albendazole in all states and Union Territories on the occasion.
Organised by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the objective of the day is to deworm children and adolescents to reduce the prevalence of parasitic worms in the intestine. It ensures that the worms are no longer a public health problem.

Training on Latex Harvest Technology

The Rubber Board is organising a two-day training in latex harvest technology on February 11 and 12 at Rubber Training Institute, Kottayam. The training includes latex harvesting, different types of tapping knives, modern tapping methods, application of stimulating agents, controlled upward tapping.
