World Breastfeeding Week 2020

World Breastfeeding Week is celebrated annually in the first week of August (from 1st of August to 7th of August) around 120 countries in the World. The day is celebrated to encourage breastfeeding and improve the babies' health around the world.
The day was commenced after signing the Innocenti Declaration in August 1990.
The global campaigning was first organized by the WABA (World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action) along with the World Health Organisation (WHO) and United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) in 1992, to raise awareness about the benefits of breastfeeding for the initial 6 months of a child's life.
The theme for the year 2020 is, "Support Breast feeding for a healthier planet".

Amit Shah Inaugurates International Webinar on 'Lokmanya Tilak - Swaraj to Self-reliant India'

Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated a two-day international webinar on the theme of 'Lokmanya Tilak - Swaraj to Self-reliant India' organised by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations on the 100th death anniversary of the great freedom fighter Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak.
Shah said that Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak played a key role in the making of the Indian Independence movement complete in letter and spirit. The Home Minister said that the slogan of 'Swaraj is my birthright and I shall have it' given by Lokmanya Tilak, will always be written in golden letters in the history of the Indian Independence Movement.
Appealing to the youth, the Home Minister said that if one wants to know the glorious history of India and Indian culture, then Bal Gangadhar Tilak's writings will have to be understood.

Yorkshire Day

Yorkshire Day is celebrated on 1 August to promote the historic English county of Yorkshire. It was celebrated in 1975, by the Yorkshire Ridings Society, initially in Beverley, as "a protest movement against the local government re-organisation of 1974". The date alludes to the Battle of Minden, and also the anniversary of the emancipation of slaves in the British Empire in 1834, for which a Yorkshire MP, William Wilberforce, had campaigned.
The day was already celebrated by the Light Infantry, successors to the King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry, as Minden Day. Together with five other infantry regiments of the British Army, a rose is permitted to be worn in the headdress. In the case of the Light Infantry, the rose is white.

International Friendship Day

International friendship Day is celebrated on 30th July every year.
International Friendship Day or Friend's Day is a day in several countries for celebrating friendship.
It was first proposed in 1958 in Paraguay as the "International Friendship Day".
It was initially promoted by the greeting cards' industry, evidence from social networking sites shows a revival of interest in the holiday that may have grown with the spread of the Internet, particularly in India, Bangladesh, and Malaysia. Mobile phones, digital communication and social media have contributed to popularize the custom.
Those who promote the holiday in South Asia attribute the tradition of dedicating a day in the honour of friends to have originated in the United States in 1935 but it actually dates back to 1919. The exchange of Friendship Day gifts like flowers, cards and wrist bands is a popular tradition on this occasion.
Friendship Day celebrations occur on different dates in different countries. The first World Friendship Day was proposed for 30 July in 1958, by the World Friendship Crusade. On 27 April 2011 the General Assembly of the United Nations declared 30 July as official International Friendship Day. However, some countries, like India, celebrate Friendship Day on the first Sunday of August. In Nepal, Friendship day is celebrated on 30 July each year. In Oberlin, Ohio, Friendship Day is celebrated on 9 April each year.

International Tiger Day

International Tiger Day, is an annual celebration to raise awareness for tiger conservation, held annually on 29th July. It was created in 2010 at the Saint Petersburg Tiger Summit. The goal of the day is to promote a global system for protecting the natural habitats of tigers and to raise public awareness and support for tiger conservation issues.
According to Environment Minister, Prakash Javadekar , India has 70 per cent of world's tiger population.
The tiger population in the country has grown from 1,400 in 2014 to 2,967 in 2019.
Madhya Pradesh has maximum number of tigers at 526.

World Hepatitis Day

World Hepatitis Day, observed on July 28 every year, aims to raise global awareness of hepatitis — a group of infectious diseases known as Hepatitis A, B, C, D, and E — and encourage prevention, diagnosis and treatment. Hepatitis affects hundreds of millions of people worldwide, causing acute and chronic disease and killing close to 1.34 million people every year. Hepatitis causes liver diseases and can also kill a person.
World Hepatitis Day is one of eight official global public health campaigns marked by the World Health Organization (WHO), along with World Health Day, World Blood Donor Day, World Immunization Week, World Tuberculosis Day, World No Tobacco Day, World Malaria Day and World AIDS Day.
Each year World Hepatitis Day has a them and the theme for 2020 is 'Hepatitis Free future'.

World Nature Conservation Day

World Nature Conservation Day is celebrated on 28 July to raise awareness about protecting the natural resources and to make people understand the importance of the conservation of nature.
The day is marked globally to spread awareness about the best practices to protect the natural resources as our Earth has limited resources which we need to use efficiently to maintain the balance. People share ideas and some also take-up activities to contribute their bit in preserving nature and its resources. However, this year a global theme has not been decided due to the pandemic.
The population explosion remains one of the major reasons why the natural resources are getting depleted at a very fast rate. technological advancement and luxurious lifestyle has raised up several environmental problems like global warming, ozone layer depletion, and the recent Amazon bushfires.
