World Statistics Day

The third World Statistics Day was celebrated around the globe on 20 October 2020 with the theme "Connecting the world with data we can trust."
This theme reflects the importance of trust, authoritative data, innovation and the public good in national statistical systems.
The celebration of World Statistics Day 2020 is a global collaborative endeavour, organized under the guidance of the United Nations Statistical Commission.

Government Hospitals Observe World Trauma Day

Government hospitals in the city observed World Trauma Day through awareness programmes on October 17, 2020.
Every year, 17th October is celebrated as World Trauma Day. This day highlights the increasing rate of accidents and injuries causing death and disability across the world and the need to prevent them.
Trauma means "any injury caused to the body".

India Hosts 7th Justice Minister's Meeting of SCO member states

Ravi Shankar Prasad, the Union Law Minister virtually hosted the 7th Justice Minister's meeting of Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) member states on October 16, 2020.
The 7th Justice Minister's meeting was attended by Law and Justice Ministers of Pakistan, China, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, and the Kyrgyz Republic. A joint statement by the SCO member states was also signed on the occasion.
In the 7th meeting of the Ministers of Justice of the SCO, the states further deliberated on creating favourable conditions for resolving the disputes, on the areas of the cooperation, and implementation of the Action Plan of the Working Groups of Experts on legal Services and Forensic Activities.

International Day for the Eradication of Poverty

The International Day for the Eradication of Poverty is an international observance celebrated each year on October 17 throughout the world.
The first commemoration of the event took place in Paris, France in 1987 when 100,000 people gathered on the Human Rights and Liberties Plaza at the Trocadéro to honor victims of poverty, hunger, violence, and fear at the unveiling of a commemorative stone by Joseph Wresinski, founder of the International Movement ATD Fourth World.
In 1992, four years after Wresinski's death, the United Nations officially designated October 17 as the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty.

World Food Day

World Food Day is an international day celebrated every year around the world on 16th October in honour of the date of the founding of the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations in 1945.
World Food Day was established by FAO's Member Countries at the Organisation's 20th General Conference in November 1979. The Hungarian Delegation, led by the former Hungarian Minister of Agriculture and Food Dr. Pál Romány, played an active role at the 20th Session of the FAO Conference and suggested the idea of celebrating the WFD worldwide. It has since been observed every year in more than 150 countries, raising awareness of the issues behind poverty and hunger.
The theme for World Food Day 2020 is "Grow, Nourish, Sustain. Together. Our actions are our future."

White Cane Safety Day

White Cane Safety Day is a national observance in the United States, celebrated on October 15 of each year since 1964. The date is set aside to celebrate the achievements of people who are blind or visually impaired and the important symbol of blindness and tool of independence, the white cane.
On October 6, 1964, a joint resolution of the U.S. Congress, H.R. 753, was signed into law as Pub.L. 88–628, and codified at 36 U.S.C. § 142. This resolution authorized the President of the United States to proclaim October 15 of each year as "White Cane Safety Day".
President Lyndon B. Johnson signed the first White Cane Safety Day proclamation within hours of the passage of the joint resolution.
In 2011, White Cane Safety Day was also named Blind Americans Equality Day by President Barack Obama.

World Students' Day

World Students' Day every year is celebrated across the globe on October 15. The day is marked to celebrate the birth anniversary of Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam. World Students' Day was first celebrated in 2010 in United Nations on Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam's birthday when he was 79 years old.
The day is celebrated to honour the most loved President of India who was a scientist, a teacher, an author among many other roles that he played. Dr. Kalam was born on October 15, 1931, in Rameshwaram, Tamil Nadu, and studied physics and aerospace engineering. He spent the next four decades as a scientist and science administrator, mainly at the DRDO and ISRO.
